Seizure Recognition, First Aid, and Ways To Volunteer https://www.epilepsy.com/ Volunteering for the Epilepsy Foundation could be a meaningful way to contribute to the epilepsy community and support individuals that you may know that are living with epilepsy. Here are a few reasons why I wanted to be an Epilepsy Awareness Ambassador: Personal Connection: My son's experience with epilepsy gives me a personal understanding of the challenges faced by individuals living with the condition. As Cheston starts to get older, his seizure activity is changing. Increased seizure frequency and changes in seizure types affect his ability to participate in school, social activities, and daily life at times. Volunteering allows me to use this understanding to make a positive impact in the lives of others who are going through similar experiences. Advocacy: By volunteering, you can be an advocate for increased awareness and better resources for epilepsy patients. Support: Volunteering with the Epilepsy Foundation can provide vital support to individuals and families affected by epilepsy. Whether it's through support groups, educational programs, or fundraising events, you can help provide the support network that is so crucial for those living with epilepsy. It’s NOT chaos… it’s MAGIC!! My ADHD brain is my secret ingredient for creativity. 🌟✨ Two years ago, at 44, I was officially diagnosed with ADHD, and it began to shed light into the complexities of my life. I’d pride myself in the gift of “multitasking” that left me with unfinished projects, but I’d push through, prioritize urgent deadlines and “deal” with the stress because I believed the overwhelming stress (sensory overload) would motivate me, but I was just functioning in the coping mechanism my childhood taught me… survival. Before knowing of my neurodivergence, my abilities were often questioned—from a manager who asked me what it would take for me to learn, to a grad school professor who advised a career change because she doubted my clinical skills. I even had a high school counselor tell me my low standardized test scores made me fit just for community college, not the Ivy League schools that sent me mail encouraging me to apply. Having a neurodivergent brain is not easy—it can be exhausting and overwhelming, but once I grieved and healed from the trauma, depression, anxiety and emotional wounds caused by my experiences in educational spheres and workplaces, I chose to embrace the superpowers that I was forced to hide just to be “normal”…. NORMAL??? 😂😂 So yes, I often forget to finish eating that bowl of cereal because I got distracted with cleaning or doing something else—BUT, prioritizing what needs immediate attention is just part of how my brain works. And that’s perfectly perfect. I’m learning to thrive in this new inner-world of mine as ME, and I appreciate the chaotic beauty of my neurodivergent magic! Because I’m not normal 😂. We have so much trauma and have heard 20K more negative words about ourselves than “typical” adults. We are compassionate and empathetic, but we are rejected at every turn by the outside world. We are tired of trying to be something that we are not and yet even with our mask — We often feel like we do not fit in. We want to be where the people are, but when we are, we just can't figure out how to be part of their world. We often feel like we live in chaos but can't find the way out of that rabbit hole, and there is never enough time. We bounce around with a singular purpose that takes us here and there, but we never quit reaching the end goal. Do you see the patterns here? CELEBRATE WITH ME......WE HAVE ANOTHER BOOK AWARD Today I found out that one of my books was awarded “International Impact Book Awards - Children’s” for my book titled “Corey’s Cuts & Waves Barbershop: A Special Barbershop For My Special Needs.” I never imagined that I would win one book award, and within a short amount of time I have won TWO book awards. I pulled this card a couple weeks ago while actively launching my new coaching practice. 🌱 Today I found it on the floor on my desk and felt called to it again today. Because I am me, I know was meant to zero in on it again today. 💫 ☺️ In 2011/12, my Cognitive Behavioral Therapy professor in my Social Work Masters Program had us select 1 card from Power Thought Deck on one of the last days of class. 👩🏫 While I now have owned my own deck for years, I kept this now wrinkled and stained card to remind me to always listen to my inner guidance.🌀🧘♀️ Arguably, these cards are GAMECHANGER for a Sensitive with Anxiety & ADHD who needs reassurance even now and then😅🙏 🌊 But deeper than that -I’ve needed affirmation from the universe during times of making difficult transitions and even MORE so when making unpopular choices aligned with my inner knowing. 🔮 Today I call on you to: 😌 Get quiet, close your eyes and go within 🧐 Ask “What do I need to know that’s in my highest good?” 🎧 Listen WITHOUT filtering as long as you need to in order to FEEL your way to the next decision ✍️ Write any tidbits that flash into your mind (again no filtering😋) 📝 If something seems clear, write down the first step that feels right and doable, 🤔 If your not sure yet, take a moment to close your eyes again and affirm “I am open to receive information and signs that align with the next steps in my highest good” 🦋🕊️ Then go live your life while keeping your eyes, heart, mind and spirit open. 💓👁️🧠👐 🌟You will know when the answer comes. Ingredients: 3 salmon fillets Coconut Oil (or Extra Virgin Olive Oil) spray 3 tbs extra-virgin olive oil (cold-pressed) 1 cup baby tomatoes 2 large sweet / purple potatoes, sliced thinly into rounds 1 pack asparagus (about 9 spears) 3 cups mixed salad leaves 2 cups rocket leaves Fresh juice from 1 lime 2 large avocados, cut into large cubes Salt and pepper, to taste Instructions: -Heat oven to 180C/160C fan/gas 4. -Press salmon fillets between paper towels to dry surfaces thoroughly. Season on all sides with salt and pepper. -Add salmon (skin side up), sliced potatoes, tomatoes, asparagus (and any other vegetables) onto baking sheet on oven tray. Spray with coconut / olive oil to coat, add salt and pepper to taste. Put in over to cook for 15-minutes. -Meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine spinach, rocket, avocado, lemon juice and 3 tablespoons olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. -Flip salmon and cook on second side for 2 more minutes, or until cooked through. Spoon salad onto plates, top with tomatoes, potatoes and asparagus, and lay salmon on top. P.s - Play with the dressing. Swap out lemon and olive oil for a balsamic or tamari dressing. Add Mexican spices (chipotle, smoked paprika, chilli) or add a Mediterranean twist using olive oil with chopped sundried tomatoes and olives. Have you ever started a relationship and everything they say is exactly what you've ALWAYS wanted to hear? It's like they can read your mind and you're bathing in more love than you knew existed. They tell you that YOU ARE EVERYTHING THEY'VE ALWAYS WANTED. They treat you like gold. They profess their love and devotion and shower you with attention, praise, gifts. They introduce you to their friends and family. Invite you to move in. Suggest you get married. They say they want to be your everything. They encourage you to put all your needs ONLY on them. It feels like a dream. Like you're floating. Like you're on cloud nine. FINALLY, you think, I've met "the one." THIS is what I've waited my whole life for! You can't believe your luck. Can't believe how happy you are. Everyone and everything else in your life fades to grey. You spend every waking second thinking of them. Texting them. Being together. And then one day things start to change. Their attention starts to drift. They have less time and energy for you. They don't compliment you as often and they become critical of your behavior. You ask them about it but they tell you nothing has changed. That it's all in your head. When you provide concrete examples, they excuse it, they're just so busy and exhausted. "Things will get better soon. Don't worry. I still love you just as much" they promise. But you do worry because things don't get better. Because something doesn't feel right in your body and because they're your whole life. Your anxiety hits level 10 and your hypervigilance skyrockets in the hope that you'll figure out what you did wrong. You talk to your friends and therapist about how you have to change because you're ruining your relationship. "I don't know what's wrong with me. I have to fix it. I CAN'T LOSE THEM!" So you struggle and struggle to be "better". To hold onto them. But its never enough. Then one day, they just leave. They vanish from your life and it's not until weeks, months, or years later that you realize, it was NEVER ABOUT YOU. You're NOT broken. You DON'T need to be fixed. You were #lovebombed, and so was I. And the only thing we lost, was ourselves.

It is tempting, when others hate us, to want to respond in kind. It makes sense that when they protest our existence, and seek to shield their children from our "evil influence", that we want to hurl shame and insults. To FORCE them to see OUR side. But at some point we have to start doing things differently. We have to choose love over hate, and isn't that what we in the LGBTQIA+ community ultimately stand for? In the past, anti LGBTQIA protests have elicited an incredulous rage in me. A deep, visceral terror. Sometimes even disgust. I immediately hated ALL those who participated without knowing anything about them or why they were there. I had zero empathy and compassion because they were WRONG and that was all that mattered. I would vilify and dehumanize them so that I didn't have to feel their pain. Because why should WE have to "turn the other cheek"? But the healing and unmasking work I've done has fundamentally changed me, and responding with compassion no longer feels like a burden, it feels like a path to hope. I don't feel hate as thousands march in protest of LGBTQIA+ rights. MY rights. Because no one protests for shits and giggles, they protest because they are terrified, whether they acknowledge it or not. EVERYONE is afraid right now. We are shattering as a species and authoring our own demise, when there is room for every color in our rainbow. So, IF you are at a place emotionally where you can consider responding differently, please do. Because it won't just help "them", it'll also help you. There is great liberation in breaking free from this cycle of hate and othering. In what @valariekaur has termed #Revolutionarylove: "The choice to enter into wonder and labor for others, for our opponents, and for ourselves in order to transform the world around us. It is not a formal code or prescription, but an orientation to life that is personal and political and rooted in joy. Loving only ourselves is escapism; loving only our opponents is self-loathing; loving only others is ineffective. All three practices together make love revolutionary." Let us heal our wounds, listen when we are able, and bring new meaning to #LOVEISLOVE.
