Day 18- started our day visiting Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument in CO, taking a hike around looking at Petrified Redwoods and viewing cool fossils in the museum. We then spent some time on our drive in a downpour and lots of traffic even though we drove around Denver. (So glad I live where I do because I am just too old now to deal with all that chaos) I did get to stop and enjoy a grilled chicken sandwich at Chick Fila while waiting out the storm. We drove across the border to Wyoming and landed in Guernsey WY for the night. Before sunset we went to see Register Cliff and the Oregon Trail Ruts which were AWESOME!! I love seeing history up close.. Petroglyph National Monument - Albuquerque, New Mexico - USA 🇺🇸 The anthropologist in me was screaming for joy during this hike. There were petroglyphs EVERYWHERE!!! I had such a good time looking for as many petroglyphs as I could find. My husband pointed these out to me just as I was walking past them. I assumed they would be far up and away from the trail but they were right in front of me. This path was a mixture of sand and gravel. Its located in the residential part of the city and the parking lot is NOT at the visitors center. 🪨 Montezuma Castle 🏰 Looks like this should be in Jordan but it’s in the USA. This cave dwelling is over 700 years old and the original inhabitants mysteriously left in the 1400’s. There are picturesque houses here and there. This is also the case on the Provincialeweg in Bunnik, between the Amelisweerd and Rhijnauwen estates (see previous posts). A beautiful, plastered farmhouse with a thatched wolf roof and shuttered windows. The building was built in the 18th century and has national monument status. Hier en daar staan van die schilderachtige huizen. Zo ook aan de Provincialeweg in Bunnik, tussen de landgoederen Amelisweerd en Rhijnauwen (zie eerdere posts). Day 15- We decided to add a destination today that wasn't on our original itinerary and so glad we did. It was amazing.. Aztec Ruins National Monument in New Mexico and then headed to Chaco Culture Historical Park. Both of these places were worth the drive.
