I recently explored more of Little Qualicum River between the area I explored last time and the areas I've explored previously. Photo 1 is a 6.5 foot diameter fir that I actually thought was too small at first. If you're wondering why I underestimated it by so much, there's actually a reason for that. This tree is located in the middle of a very young forest that was probably logged around 20 years ago. I often see big trees in the middle of these new growth forests, but they always turn out to be much smaller than they look. I was actually surprised by how big it was, and I'm glad I didn't turn around when I saw the bottom and thought "whelp, that's probably much smaller than it seems". Anyway, photo 3 is a six foot fir, although it oddly looks much bigger than that in the photo. I assume this is due to an oval-shaped trunk. Photo 4 is another 6 foot fir. This is actually one I'd visited previously, but didn't get a photo with, so I decided to do that. Photo 2 is a 6.5 foot cedar I found closer to the area I was in last time. One other thing I found was a pretty big scouler's willow that was 4 feet in diameter (1.14 meters to be exact).
