. . . . #Uk #ReinoUnido #CrownJewels #JoyasDeLaCorona #Queen #QueenMary #MaryOfTeck #ReinaMaria #Reina #Windsor #Realeza #Crown #Royal #Monarchy #LaMonarquia

While on a summer holiday in Denmark, Tsarina Maria Feodorovna ‘Minnie’ and her family went on a day trip to Copenhagen’s zoological gardens but the outing turned out to be anything but relaxing; Minnie had chosen to wear a hat with cherries on the top and a monkey thought he was about to get an extra dinner and stuck its hand through the bars and tried to pull the hat off of Minnie’s head but it was too well secured and would not budge, Minnie’s sister Alexandra, Princess of Wales placed her hands around her sister’s waist and pulled in the opposite direction, frustrated the monkey let go so quickly that the hat just flew off of poor Minnie’s head. Thankfully the entire family thought the incident was hilarious and they spent the next few days in stitches. 📸: RCT ©️HM King Charles III #tsarinamariafeodorovna #mariafeodorovna #mariafeodorovnaofrussia #princessdagmar #princessdagmarofdenmark #dagmarofdenmark #queenalexandra #queenalexandrafashiontimeline #alexandraofdenmark #princessalexandra #princessalexandraofdenmark #tsaralexanderiii #alexanderiii #alexandraofwales #princessealexandra #princessthyra #princessthyraofdenmark #princessofwales #kingedwardvii #edwardvii #princeofwales #queenlovisa #lovisaofsweden #kingfrederik #kongfrederik #kongehuset #kronprinsfrederik #princefrederik #princefrederikofdenmark #maryofteck

Following his wedding, Prince Albert Duke of York [George VI], wrote a letter to his mother Queen Mary thanking her for her help, I find the letter utterly charming and I believe it helps show a different side to their mother-son relationship that is not often portrayed. : ‘…My darling Mama, I don’t quite know how to begin this letter to you as I have so much to thank you for in every way. I do hope you are not tired after all your exertions for the last few days, but I can only tell you how much I appreciated them as they did so help to make a success of the arrangements. I trust you thought the actual ceremony went off well, as I am afraid I was very nervous about it until it was over. You were kindness itself in all the help you gave me in choosing the silver & the china we needed at the beginning ; all the more so as I had very little idea of what we did want never having thought much about those things before… I do hope you will not miss me very much, though I believe you will as I have stayed with you so much longer than the brothers. I am very happy now with my little darling so perhaps our parting was made easier for me but still I did feel a pang at leaving my home… I remain Every your devoted boy Bertie’ Citation: RA QM/PRIV/CC11/40 📸: RCT #queenmary #kinggeorgvi #georgevi #maryofteck #princealbert #dukeofyork #princessmary #princessmaryofteck #queenmaryofteck #princessofwales #kinggeorgev #georgev #princegeorge #princegeorgeofwales #duchessofyork #georgeofwales #princeedward #kingedwardviii #edwardviii #dukeofwindsor #princessmaryprincessroyal #maryprincessroyal #princessroyal #countessofharewood #princehenry #princehenryofwales #henryofwales #dukeofgloucester #henrydukeofgloucester #princegeorgedukeofkent

I thought it would be nice to share a letter from Queen Maud of Norway to her sister-in-law, Mary, Princess of Wales because they appear to have been quite close despite rumours that Maud bullied Mary also I think it discredits rumours that Maud was illiterate: Christiania Dec 17. 1905 Dearest May, Behold! I am a Queen!!! Who wd have thought it? & I am the very last person to be stuck on a throne! I am actually getting accustomed to be called “Yr Majesty!” & yet often pinch myself to feel if I am not dreaming! We are very comfortably settled now, at least we are trying our utmost to get our rooms as we like. Some are really very fine, & nice big lofty rooms & divine view fr [from] the windows, but alas! & alack! the appaling taste there is, is not to be believed, the papers, curtains, carpets & furniture are something quite out of the common & really I think those who chose all these things must have been extraordinarily clever to have discovered such a collection of monstrosities!! The sad part is the lack of money, & I doubt when we can ever get these horrors changed. Luckily we have had a lot of good furniture in Copenhagen so have been able to put them about in our own rooms. First Post!! 👑 Today we are going to go over the crown of Her Majesty Queen Mary. The 2,200 diamond encrusted crown was made in 1911 for The Coronation of King George V and Queen Mary by Garrard’s. The Crown included the infamous Koh-i-nûr diamond, The Cullinan Ill and IV diamonds, and later on the Cullinan V diamond. The Daily Telegraph described it saying ‘It has no jewels but diamonds, and the diamonds cluster together as if they had no support but their own light.’ After The Coronation Her Majesty wore it as a circlet many times (without the arches and cap). Infamously she wore it to her son’s Coronation (King George VI) in 1937. The Koh-i-nûr was taken out of the crown and put into The Queen Mothers crown for the 1937 Coronation. Her Majesty then had it replaced with the Cullinan V Brooch. After Queen Mary’s death in 1953, The Crown would stay in The Tower Of London until 2023. Her Majesty Queen Camilla had it altered for it to be her crown in her Crowning Ceremony. 4 of the original arches were removed as well as the framing for the controversial Koh-i-nûr diamond. and had The Cullinan V Brooch be put in its place. As well as Cullinan III and IV. Which were set as a brooch earlier on. Today The Crown can be seen by the public at The Tower Of London. * • • • #queenelizabeth #queenmary #britishroyalfamily #maryofteck #crown #queenelizabethii #kingcharles #godsavetheking #britishcrownjewels #viral #diamonds #jewelry

On the 6th of May 1910, King Edward VII died at Buckingham Palace, the day was recorded by the new King George V: ‘I went to B.P. ar 10.15 where I regret to say I found darling Papa much worse, having a fainting fit. It was indeed a terrible day for us all. We hardly left him. He knew us & talked to us between his attacks up to 4.30 pm. At 11.45 beloved Papa passed peacefully away & I have lost my best friend & the best of fathers. I have never had a word with him in my life. I am heartbroken & overwhelmed with grief, but God will help me in my great responsibilities & darling May will be my comfort as she always been. May God give me strength & guidance in the heavy task which has fallen on me… Left Motherdear & Toria and drove to M.H. with darling May. I am quite stunned by this awful blow. This is letter from Princess Margaret of Connaught dated March 10th 1905, following her engagement to Prince Gustaf Adolf please note that I have done my best to decipher Margaret’s writing but as she admits her handwriting is untidy and I may have misread some parts and … is used for words I can’t make out : ‘My dear Mrs Leslie How can I thank you enough for your very dear letter & good wishes you sent me for which I am deeply grateful. I am so intensely truly happy that I can hardly yet realize what it all means, & as I think it all over again & again I wonder if it can be really true not a beautiful dream that will vanish away! God has indeed been very good to me!! As you say Egypt was an ideal place for a courtship & we both have grown very fond of it & mean to go back as soon as we can - I do hope you will soon make Gustaf’s acquaintance & I think you’ll like him… he’s not really a bit good looking & has to wear glasses which hide his nice dark blue eyes, he’s a good bit taller than me & very thin - fond of music, & pictures & all sorts of nice things, in fact he just suits me down to the ground & I think myself an extraordinarily fortunate girl - The only cloud in my otherwise cloudless sky is Mama being so sad at my going & Patsy & Arthur, I’ afraid they are very miserable & I don’t know what to do but I know I can trust you to try & cheer up Mama who feels it dreadfully - again many many thanks for your very kind letter… love from Patsy & myself Belive me dear Mrs Leslie Yours very sincerely Margaret. Forgive this untidy note but I have 53 letters to answer !! 🔹The Buccaneers (2023-)🔹 In the Buccaneers Lizzy and Virginia are introduced at court which means that they wear court gowns. Brittish court gown did change with fashions but some elements of it didn’t change. These were a long train, which was often seperate and minium of three yards, three ostrich feathers in the hair and a veil. The gown was supposed to be low cut and long like evening wear even though court introductions were usually during day time. On the left is princess Mary of Teck in her court introduction gown in 1886. This is a decade after the Buccaneers is set but there are still a lot similarieties as court dresses should. My evening reading is a vintage guidebook entitled, “Queen Mary’s Art Treasures.” The text is very informative, however, it’s the pictures that make it all come alive. Now, the pictures themselves may be entirely in black and white, but it is clear that Queen Mary certainly had MANY fabulous things at Marlborough House. And her armorial crest on the cover isn’t too shabby either with all its quarterings flanked by a royal English lion along with a Germanic stag and topped with the imperial crown of England. #queenmary #queenmaryofteck #maryofteck #queenconsort #queenofengland #houseofwindsor #englishroyal #englishroyalty #monarchy #britishmonarchy #guidebook #guidebooks #vintageguidebooks #ephemera #royalcrest #coatofarms #heraldry #crest #victoriaandalbertmuseum #victoriaandalbert #anglophile #anglophiles #antiquecollector #antiquecollectors #collector

The twenty-fifth of April is the birthday of Princess Alice and Princess Mary. Not only do they share a birthday but they worked as nurses while their countries were at war. I thought it would be interesting to share excerpts from Queen Victoria’s journals: Birth of Princess Alice I have not been able to write in my Journal again, until now, an account of my confinement & I will proceed to continue the Journal (up to this day), with the help of notes. On the 25th of April after, getting hardly any sleep, soon after midnight, Dr Locock was sent for & at 5 minutes past 4, a fine, healthy girl was born, & all my sufferings had come to an end! The only person who was there, to whom the child could be shown, was Ld Liverpool. I felt extremely quiet & comfortable afterwards & slept a good deal. My beloved Albert, who had watched so tenderly over me the whole time had many people to see, & such numbers of letters to write. — Dear Mama, came to see me early in the morning, & dearest Albert sat with me in the evening. We felt so grateful to God for again so mercifully protecting me this time…’ Birth of Princess Mary, Princess Royal ‘…Heard from Georgie that May had given birth to a little girl, both doing well. It is strange that this child should be born on dear Alice’s birthday, whilst the last was on the anniversary of her death. —‘ 📸:RCT see citations in comments #princessalice #princessaliceoftheunitedkingdom #grandduchessalice #grandduchessalicemaudmary #aliceofhesse #alicemaudmary #princessmaryprincessroyal #maryprincessroyal #countessofharewood #queenvictoria #queenvictoriaofengland #victoriaregia #princessvictoria #victoriaoftheunitedkingdom #kinggeorgev #georgev #kingedwardvii #kingedwardviii #edwardvii #edwardviii #maryofteck #princessmaryofteck #queenmary #queenmaryofteck #victoriaadelaidemarylouisa #victoriaprincessroyal #princesshelena #princesshelenaoftheunitedkingdom #princealbert #princeconsort

Been busy uploading new items of stock to the website. Here is a fabulous étagère made for Mary of Teck, Queen Mary. Her initials VM (Victoria Mary) are applied in ormolu to the edge of the top tier. It also has a label underneath 'Property of His Majesty King George V' and a brass plaque stating it was made by British Workmen for the Princess of Wales 1906 by Messrs, White, Allom & Co. It's such a wonderful piece and to have all that information just adds so much to its history. ⚠️TW: Gravestones and infant loss⚠️ photos 7&8 are of gravestones I always feel emotional when I visit the Church on the Sandringham Estate knowing that two young and almost forgotten members of the Royal Family are buried side by side. I recently read an old newspaper article which explained why the Prince and Princess of Wales youngest child died at just one day old. It suggested that a friend fell through the ice while skating and Alexandra immediately went to assist her. At the time Alexandra was pregnant with Prince Alexander John of Wales and she unfortunately lost her balance and fell over. I have done a lot of research on the life of Prince John, youngest son of King George V and Queen Mary and I know that many people think he lived an unhappy life but this is not true and he was not actually hidden away from the public eye (you can pretty much trace his life in photographs released to the public) 📸1-6 RCT 7-8) @thedailycrownicles please don’t publish these without my permission #kinggeorgev #georgev #kinggeorge #princegeorge #princeofwales #dukeofyork #duchessofyork #princessofwales #princejohn #princejohnoftheunitedkingdom #princejohnofwales #thelostprince #princessmary #princessmaryprincessroyal #kingedwardvii #edwardvii #edwardviii #kingedwardviii #dukeofwindsor #georgevi #kinggeorgevi #queenalexandra #queenalexandrafashiontimeline #alexandraofdenmark #queenmaryofteck #maryofteck #queenmary #princessmaryofteck #princealbertedward #sandringham

Princess Victoria Mary, the Duchess of Cornwall and York (later Queen Mary), sat for a series of photographic portraits taken by W. & D. Downey, in London. The portraits were published by Topley Studio, Ottawa, to publicise the royal tour of Canada in 1901. The tour by the future King George V and Queen Mary, formed a part of a larger eight-month royal tour of the British Empire that began in March, and ended in November 1901. The tour was the longest in royal history. For the sitting Mary chose to ware jewellery given to her on the occasion of her wedding in 1893. In addition to multiple strands of pearls, glittering diamond broaches, bracelets and pearl earrings, Mary wore a magnificent diamond tiara and stomacher. The County of Surrey Tiara had a fringe design, with floral elements, and was constructed to be convertible. When taken off its frame the tiara could be worn as a necklace. Its maker is no longer known, but the tiara was constructed of diamonds on a gold and platinum frame. Mary had the tiara broken up around 1913, and had the stones used in the creation of other jewels. The ‘Kapurthala’ stomacher was a gift from the Maharajah of Kapurthala. Stomachers are no longer worn for practical reasons, but around the turn of the twentieth century they were extremely fashionable pieces of jewellery designed to be pinned to the bodice of a gown. Like the County of Surrey Tiara, The ‘Kapurthala’ stomacher was also broken up and the stones used to make a new piece, in this case a new stomacher, Queen Mary’s Diamond Stomacher, in 1920. That piece remains in the Royal Collection today. #queenmary #queenmay #maryofteck

My vacation is over (😢) so here’s a little recap of some of what I missed posting about this week: The funeral of Her Majesty Queen Mary took place on 31 March 1953, the 71st anniversary of which occurred on Easter Sunday this year. That same day also marked the anniversary of the birth of Queen Mary’s third son, Prince Henry, Duke of Gloucester. His mother’s funeral took place on his 53rd birthday. The lying-in-state of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother began on 5 April 2002, 22 years ago. Thousands filed past her coffin as she lay in state for four days. Her coffin was draped in her personal standard with a ring of camellias she herself had grown placed around her crown, made for her 1936 coronation, on top. Her surviving daughter, Queen Elizabeth II, left a note on top of her coffin. #queenmary #maryofteck #princehenry #dukeofgloucester #queenelizabeth #queenmother #queenmum #queenelizabethii #royal #royals #royalty #britishroyalfamily

Queen Mary with Princess Elizabeth of York, March 1927. Photograph showing Queen Mary seated, facing the viewer and holding the infant Princess Elizabeth of York aged approximately one year (later Queen Elizabeth II). This portrait may have been amongst those taken for (and sent to) the Duke & Duchess of York (later king George VI & Queen Elizabeth) while they were in Australia in the first half of 1927, to record the progress their daughter was making. #OTD in 1953 Her Majesty Queen Mary died peacefully at Marlborough House after suffering from a long gastric illness. Mary had seen six different monarchs during her lifetime: Queen Victoria (her husband’s grandmother), King Edward VII (her father-in-law), King George V (her husband), King Edward VIII (her eldest son); King George VI (her second son), and Queen Elizabeth II (her granddaughter). She also met a seventh monarch, her great-grandson King Charles III. Mary was predeceased by three of her children: her youngest son, Prince John, died young in 1911; her fourth son, Prince George, Duke of Kent, died in a plane crash in 1942; and her second son King George VI died in 1952. Mary’s death occurred just over a year after King George’s and just over two months before the coronation of her granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth II. Mary made it clear that the coronation should not be postponed should she die before it. Mary is perhaps best known for her love for jewelry and other accessories. She left a large personal collection of jewelry to her granddaughter, Queen Elizabeth II, including her namesake fringe tiara, the Girls of Great Britain and Ireland tiara, and the Grand Duchess Vladimir tiara. #queenmary #maryofteck #queenmother #queenvictoria #kingedward #kingedwardvii #kinggeorge #kinggeorgev #kingedwardviii #kinggeorgevi #queenelizabeth #queenelizabethii #tiaras #royal #royals #royalty #britishroyalfamily

#onthisday 24 March 1953 - Queen Mary died Born Mary of Teck, 26 May 1867, she was Queen consort from 1910 until 1936 as the wife of King George V (married 1893). She was concurrently Empress of India. Although technically a princess of Teck, in the Kingdom of Württemberg, she was born & raised in the UK. Her parents were Francis, Duke of Teck, who was of German extraction, & Princess Mary Adelaide of Cambridge, who was a granddaughter of King George III. She was informally known as "May", after the month of her birth. . At the age of 24, she was betrothed to her second cousin once removed Prince Albert Victor, Duke of Clarence and Avondale, the eldest son of the Prince of Wales, but six weeks after the announcement of the engagement, he died unexpectedly during an influenza pandemic. The following year, she became engaged to Albert Victor's only surviving brother, George, who subsequently became king. Before her husband's accession, she was successively Duchess of York, Duchess of Cornwall, & Princess of Wales. As queen consort from 1910, she supported her husband through the First World War, his ill health, & major political changes arising from the aftermath of the war. After George's death in 1936, she became queen mother when her eldest son, Edward VIII, ascended the throne; but to her dismay, he abdicated later the same year in order to marry twice-divorced American socialite Wallis Simpson. She supported her second son, George VI, until his death in 1952. She died the following year, during the reign of her granddaughter Elizabeth II, who had not yet been crowned. Among much else, an ocean liner, a battlecruiser, & a university were named in her honour. Mary died on 24 March 1953 in her sleep at the age of 85, ten weeks before her granddaughter's coronation. She had let it be known that should she die, the Coronation should not be postponed. Her remains lay in state at Westminster Hall, where large numbers of mourners filed past her coffin. She is buried beside her husband in the nave of St George's Chapel, Windsor Castle. __________

𝐏𝐡𝐨𝐭𝐨𝐬𝐡𝐨𝐩 𝐢𝐧 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐕𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐄𝐫𝐚 Do you know? Photoshop has already existed since the late Victorian Era. A small waist of an hourglass figure was the prominent beauty standard during the Victorian and Edwardian Eras, and this could be explained by the corsets that become tighter and tighter throughout the years. As photos were invented, they were able to capture how individuals exactly looked like, but as time went on, they also managed to remove unwanted objects from an image, or even to transfer themselves into ideal figures. One of the most typical example could be the ‘editing’ of their waists This could be done by a technique named ‘retouching’, in which negatives were scrapped by pencil marking to draw, erase, and touch up received beauty flaws, and it became a common phenomenon for photo editing since the 1880s. Unlike the modern ones, edited photos in the past were left with obvious traces, and could be identified with the scrapped materials on the prints. In this post, you could see some typical examples of edited photos, mainly from Queen Maria Christina of Spain and Queen Alexandra of the United Kingdom. The former was known for her extravagantly edited waist, and the latter, as an iconic beauty in her youth, tended to retouch her photos, to remove wrinkles on her face, especially after reaching into her 50s. I’ve also made a comparison between the edited photo of Queen Maria Christina and how the original should look like From the beautification of portrait figures, to the manipulation of photographs, it demonstrates that people, regardless of time, always tend to show the best part of themselves. But what makes the difference is that we no longer have to scrap the negatives nowadays Examples : Retouching : 2. Queen Alexandra, aged 58, 1902 (This was in the Edwardian Era) 3. Empress Maria Feodorovna, aged 49, 1896 Waist editing : 1 & 4. Queen Maria Christina of Spain, late 1880s 5. Prior to his relationship with Wallis Simpson, Prince Edward (Duke of Windsor) attended to win the heart of the Duke of Westminster’s long term mistress whom was none other than the fashion icon Coco Chanel! Unfortunately for Prince Edward, Chanel was not interested in him however, she did admire Queen Mary with the London Daily Mail quoted Chanel “your Queen succeeds in a very difficult task. In an age where successive bizarre and extravagant fashions - not always in perfect taste - are sweeping the world, she maintains a queenly grace and distinction which are conservative without being old-fashioned.” High praise indeed from one of the most stylish women of their generation. 👑🏴󠁧󠁢󠁷󠁬󠁳󠁿 This postcard was sent in 1906 when HRH Princess of Wales was Mary of Teck. Married to George V in 1893 they had 6 children. Mary was a collector, primarily of artwork that had been associated or belonged to her own family and then after her marriage she extended this to all things royal. She and her husband tracked down and bought the faberge eggs that had once belonged to his cousin the tsarina of Russia. She was fastidious in her collecting and excellent at cataloguing her possessions. To the best of my knowledge there has been no photoshopping or enhancing of this photo. 🙈 #princessofwales #hrhprincessofwales #maryofteck #royal #royalcollection #royalcollector #royalfamily #georgev #1906 #postcards #postcardcollector #postcardcollection #edwardianpostcards #deltiology #postcardalbum #postcard

Mine is Queen Alexandra’s bedroom and the drawing room both are so elegant. 📸: 1) The British and Romanov royal families 2) The royal corridor 1901 3)King Edward’s dressing room 1901 4) The royal staircase 1901 5)The state dining room 1901 6) King Edward’s study 1901 7)King Edward’s bedroom 1901 8) Queen Alexandra’s bedroom 1901 9) Royal drawing room 1901 10) Princess Victoria’s bedroom 1901 #queenalexandra #queenalexandrafashiontimeline #alexandraofdenmark #princessalexandra #princessalexandraofdenmark #alexandraofwales #princeofwales #princessofwales #kingedward #kingedwardvii #edwardvii #princealbertedward #albertedward #princessvictoria #victoriaofwales #victoriaoftheunitedkingdom #kinggeorgev #georgev #princegeorge #georgeofwales #dukeofyork #duchessofyork #queenmary #maryofteck #queenmaryofteck #princessmary #princessmaryofteck #edwardviii #kingedwardviii #princessmaryprincessroyal

🌸🌼🌸Inside Marlborough House pt. 1🌸🌼🌸 Marlborough House was the home of Alexandra and Edward, Prince and Princess of Wales where they raised their children. Marlborough House contained a lift which transport sleeping babies up and downstairs so their parents could show them off or kiss them goodnight without waking them. I found lots of pictures on the Royal Collection Trust which I am going to share in separate posts but I am also planning to share other Royal Residences including a miniature one. 1) Edward and Alexandra at Sandringham 2)Entrance Hall which was added to the property in the 1860’s 3) Drawing Room 1890’s 4)Drawing Room 1812 5)Saloon 1912 6)King Edward VII’s study preserved in 1912 (the statue and portrait of Eddy 🥺🥺🥺 7)First floor sitting room 1912 8) The Conservatory 1912 9) Small Drawing Room 1912 10) Dining Room 1911 #kingedwardvii #edwardvii #edwardtheseventh #kingedward #queenalexandra #queenalexandrafashiontimeline #alexandraofdenmark #princessalexandra #princessalexandraofdenmark #princessofwales #princeofwales #princealbertedward #kinggeorge #kinggeorgev #georgev #princegeorge #georgeofwales #alexandraofwales #princealbertvictor #dukeofclarence #dukeofclarenceandavondale #princeeddy #queenmary #maryofteck #queenmaryofteck #princessmary #princessmaryofteck #princessvictoria #victoriaofwales #maudofwales

🌸🌸🌸🌼🌼🌼York Cottage 🌼🌼🌼🌸🌸🌸 The Royal Collection Trust contains a scrapbook compiled by Princess Mary, Duchess of York between 1897 and 1899. The photographs offer a fascinating glimpse into the first marital home of Princess Mary and Prince George, Duke of York. York Cottage was where all but one of George and Mary’s children were born and George was especially happy there; following the death of Queen Victoria George was offered Osborne House by King Edward VII however he turned it down in favour of his home at Sandringham. 📸: 1) RCT not part of the scrapbook 2) The exterior of York Cottage 3) The Morning Room 4)The Duke of York’s study 5)Billiards room 6)Dining Room 7)Duchess of York’s sitting room 8) Duchess of York’s sitting room 9) Drawing Room 10) The Equerry Room #kinggeorgev #kinggeorge #georgev #princegeorge #princegeorgeofwales #georgeofwales #dukeofyork #duchessofyork #queenmary #maryofteck #princessmary #princessmaryofteck #queenmaryofteck #princessofwales #princeofwales #kingedward #kingedwardviii #edwardviii #dukeofwindsor #georgevi #princealbert #kinggeorgevi #princessmaryprincessroyal #countessofharewood #maryprincessroyal #princehenry #princehenryofwales #dukeofgloucester #dukeofkent #princejohn
