Walmer Castle, Kent On the orders of Henry VIII, this Castle Fortress was built in 1539 to defend the South coastlines. Over time, it became a Country Home for the Lords Warden of the Cinque Ports, which included Sandwich, Dover, Hythe, Rye (New Romney), and Hastings. Lords Warden included William Pitt, Duke of Wellington, and The Queen Mother. The Castle is full of original antique furniture that appears on the 'heirloom' list to ensure it's never removed from the Castle. Along with a pair of Wellingtons boots! There are 8 acres of grounds with a kitchen garden, wildflower meadow, woodland walks, and a beautiful yew hedged broadwalk and The Queens Mothers Garden. I think that Trisha Biggar, the costume designer of Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace (1999), Star Wars: Episode II - Attack of the Clones (2002) and Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith (2005), has taken inspiration from Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon's wedding dress and veil. Combining 1920s fashion with sci-fi is a genius choice in my opinion. Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon (later Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother) married Prince Albert, Duke of York (later King George VI) on 26 April 1923 at Westminster Abbey. Elizabeth's wedding dress was made from deep ivory chiffon moire, embroidered with pearls and a silver thread. It was intended to match the traditional Flanders lace provided for the train by Queen Mary. Elizabeth's dress, which was in the fashion of the early 1920s, was designed by Madame Handley-Seymour, dressmaker to Queen Mary. During the war, her seemingly indomitable spirit provided moral support to the British public. After the war, her husband's health deteriorated, and she was widowed at the age of 51. Her elder daughter, aged 25, became the new queen. After the death of Queen Mary in 1953, Elizabeth was viewed as the matriarch of the British royal family. In her later years, she was a consistently popular member of the family, even at times when other royals were suffering from low levels of public approval.
