On the 30th April 2024, His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales then officially opened James’ Place❤️ His Royal Highness spoke to men who struggled with their mental health during a visit to the newly opened James’ Place in Newcastle, it is the third centre to be opened by the charity, which was founded in 2008 by Clare Milford Haven and Nick Wentworth-Stanley, following the death of their son James who took his own life aged just 21 after he was unable to find the urgent help he needed to deal with his suicidal thoughts❤️ William listened intently as Dean Stewart, 31, from Gateshead, told him how he struggled with thoughts of self-harm after he dealt with a gambling addiction, Mr Stewart said James’ Place had helped him so much in just four months that he was now studying to become a counsellor❤️ He said that the Prince’s visit will “one million per cent” help to save lives of other men by publicising the facility, which takes self-referrals, Mr Stewart said: “The Prince of Wales coming up means a lot more men will come through the doors rather than doing themselves harm”❤️ Officially opening the facility in the city’s West End, William said: “Every time I come to a James’ Place centre I feel calm, relaxed and I feel like it is a safe space”❤️ James’s mother, who is the Marchioness of Milford Haven and is married to the King’s cousin, recalled going to his student accommodation after his death to empty his room, she found a note he wrote to his parents, and said: “It was incredibly moving and it professed his love for us and it was also very sad, I don’t want any dad, mum, girlfriend, anybody, to go through that so we want to change the way men are treated”❤️ Earlier, charity trustee Richard Swallow thanked the Prince for coming to open the centre, and referred to the King being back on public-facing duties, saying “It is good to see your father is out today”❤️

On 16th May 2024, The Prince of Wales, Patron of the appeal to create The Fleming Initiative, attended an event at The Royal Society in central London to celebrate global efforts to tackle antimicrobial resistance and build stronger health systems, food security and climate resilience 💊🧡 Antimicrobial resistance occurs when the microbes that cause infections develop resistance to treatments such as antibiotics and as a result infections become difficult or impossible to treat, increasing the risk of disease spread, severe illness, disability, and death. In 2019, antimicrobial resistance was associated with approximately 5 million global deaths a year, and this is set to rise to 10 million caused directly by 2050, with the global economic cost calculated to be 100 trillion USD. Hosted jointly by His Majesty’s Government and The Royal Society, the event showcased the latest scientific and economic research into antimicrobial resistance, celebrated citizen and civil society campaigns to raise awareness of the issue and gave a platform to thought leaders. Ministers from the Commonwealth and around the world, representatives from UN organisations and antimicrobial resistance champions were all in attendance. During the event, survivors of antimicrobial resistance spoke of their experiences and Lord Darzi gave an update on The Fleming Initiative which includes a Centre located at St. Mary’s Hospital in London and a global network which will drive a worldwide movement to tackle antimicrobial resistance. Last July, Prince William became Patron of the appeal to establish the Initiative. He delivered a short speech at the event. On 13th May 2024, The King officially handed over the role of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps to The Prince of Wales at the Army Aviation Centre in Middle Wallop ❤️🚁 The King arrived ahead of The Prince of Wales and was met by a Guard of Honour and Lieutenant General Sir Nicholas Borton, Colonel Commandant of the Army Air Corps, who joined Charles on a tour of The Army Flying Museum. Within the Museum, The King met veterans and their families, before unveiling a plaque which commemorates the arrival of the first Apache AH Mk.1 to be installed in a UK museum. His Majesty consequently walked across the airfield to the Middle Wallop Control Tower, where, in front of an Apache, he was met by The Prince of Wales to officially hand over the role of Colonel-in-Chief of the Army Air Corps. Together, they met serving aircrew. Following His Majesty’s departure, The Prince of Wales embarked on his first engagement with the Army Air Corps as Colonel-in-Chief. Prince William received a briefing on the Army Air Corps’ current work and saw training and operational aircraft used by the Regiment, before meeting aircrew and the supporting ground staff. He heard from soldiers across a range of roles within the regiment that are involved in supporting operations. William then left the base on an Apache capability flight, learning more about the capabilities of the equipment and the people that fly and support it. Prince William has a strong affiliation with the Armed Forces, having served in the Army as a Platoon Commander in The Blues and Royals, before completing flying training in the Royal Air Force. On this day in 2019, Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales visited Bletchley Park to view a special D-Day exhibition in the restored Teleprinter Building, marking the 75th anniversary of the D-Day landings❤️ The Princess’ paternal grandmother Valerie Glassborow worked as a “Duty Officer” at Bletchley with her twin sister Mary during the war and, as with so many people who worked in British Signals Intelligence, Valerie’s records were among many destroyed after the war❤️ Valerie married RAF pilot Peter Middleton in 1946 and they had four children including Catherine’s father Michael Middleton, Valerie died aged 82 in 2006 and her husband Peter died on the 2nd November 2010 aged 90 resulting in William and Catherine’s engagement announcement being delayed❤️ During the 2019 visit, the Princess was delighted to learn the names of her grandmother and great-aunt were the latest additions to Bletchley’s Codebreakers’ wall, the focus of this visit was very much on the fascinating D-Day exhibition❤️ It includes an immersive film based on declassified material showing how the intelligence effort coordinated at Bletchley Park helped especially in the success of the D-Day landings at Normandy, using sophisticated codebreaking techniques, workers at Bletchley Park fed crucial information to Allied forces leading up to D-Day on the 6th June 1944❤️ Catherine viewed the exhibition and met those involved in the restoration, Her Royal Highness then joined a group of schoolchildren involved in a workshop which allows pupils to take on the role of codebreakers, intercepting and deciphering German communications in order to understand their order of battle and decide whether Operation Fortitude’s deception plans have been successful❤️ The Princess then spoke with Elizabeth Diacon, who served at Bletchley from 1944 to May 1945 as a WAAF shift supervisor, and Georgia Rose, who served from 1943 to 1945 as a teleprinter operator and Morse slip reader❤️ Given four cuddly toys by the primary school codebreakers: a squirrel, fox, owl and rabbit for George, Charlotte, Louis and then baby Archie respectively, Catherine said: “They love wild animals, they will look after these”❤️
