Princess Elizabeth of York (Queen Elizabeth II), with Princess Margaret of York on “Peggy”, a Shetland pony and the groom, Mr Henry Owen (see 2nd and 3rd image at Windsor playing boules.). Photo attributed to King George VI. Style note: watching you watching me. “Lilibet’s first love of all was undoubtedly Owen the groom, who taught her to ride. What Owen did or said was right in her sight for many years, and I remember how we all laughed on one occasion when she asked her father about some future plan that was being made. ‘Don’t ask me, ask Owen,’ said the King, a trifle testily. ‘Who am I to make suggestions?’ Marion Crawford - The Little Princesses (1950)” The King was a keen photographer using a Cine-Kodak Magazine 16 Camera. These types of cameras were produced by Kodak in Rochester (New York) USA, between 1945 and 1952. On this day in 1952, Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II carried out the first public engagement of her reign❤️ The Maundy Service happens annually on the Thursday before Easter Sunday, the tradition of a different Cathedral hosting the Maundy Service started with Queen Elizabeth II who decided the money should not just be distributed in London and, as a result of this, Her late Majesty presented Maundy money at every Anglican cathedral in England❤️ The service dates back to 600AD and these special coins have kept much the same form since 1670, the first recorded Royal Distribution was at Knaresborough, North Yorkshire by King John in 1210❤️ Her late Majesty gave gifts of silver maundy money to fifty-two persons in 1952, one man and one woman for each of her twenty-six years during her first Maundy service❤️ It was the first time that a Queen Regnant had personally distributed the royal alms since Queen Elizabeth I, during the service, the late Queen left the sanctuary to carry out her first distribution of green leather purses containing £1 15/ in lieu of clothing for the women and white purses containing  £2 5/ allowance for the men❤️ For the second distribution, Her late Majesty again walked through the choir and naive to present red and white purses containing £1 “redemption money” and an allowance of £1 10/ in lieu of provisions which formerly were given in kind❤️ The number of recipients in 1952 was the smallest for more than a century, Maundy money still bore the head of the late King George VI since there was insufficient time to redesign the coins since his death❤️ Each of the recipients received the equivalent of 2/2 made up in little silver pennies, two-penny, three-penny and four-penny pieces❤️ For her first ever public engagement of her reign, Her late Majesty wore her Vanguard Rose brooch❤️ In 1944, the then Princess Elizabeth launched HMS Vanguard and was presented with this antique diamond brooch by Messrs. An extract from Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon’s diary dated Tuesday 16 January 1923: ‘Woke at 8.30. The papers announce my engagement this morning. Great headlines & lots of rot! Up by 11. Telegrams poured in all day, letters & reporters tumbling over each other. Saw Aunt Maudie. Bertie came to lunch. There were hundreds of photographers & a crowd when we came out. Awful! Went to Buckingham Palace & chose the ring. The Prince of Wales came in for some time, & sent for some rings from Boucheron! Had tea with Bertie - then he brought me home. More telegrams, & saw two Scotch reporters & [Victor] Gordon-Lennox. Quite exhausted! Bertie dined - Father came up. Talked till 12 - 8 were photographed - not a success! On this day in 2012, Her late Majesty the Queen and His Royal Highness the late Duke of Edinburgh were joined by Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales for a visit to Leicester which marked the first day of the UK tour for the Diamond Jubilee❤️ Catherine and the late Queen travelled to De Montfort University where they watched a student fashion show, the Princess could be seen chatting with Her late Majesty and the pair seemed to be getting on well and both looked as if they enjoyed themselves❤️ At the university, Catherine judged a competition run in her honour, De Montfort University teaches a famous shoe-designing course and students seised the opportunity to design something exclusively for the Princess❤️ Her Royal Highness selected a gorgeous royal blue shoe to win; the designer was inspired by Catherine’s engagement ring and love of lace❤️ While the royal ladies were preoccupied with fashion, the late Duke of Edinburgh viewed the Square Mile project which aims to help improve the life and surroundings of the local community❤️ Later in the afternoon, the royal trio visited Leicester Cathedral to attend a Christian service with participation from many other faiths in the city, Leicester is famous for its ethnic diversity and many different religions were represented at the service❤️ The crowd, who stood nine-deep and consisted of around 5,000 people, let out whoops and claps as the royal party pulled up outside, at one point security staff had to hold on to the barriers to prevent people spilling forward❤️ The crowd waiting outside the Cathedral broke into a rousing rendition of the National Anthem as the 30-minute service drew to a close, afterwards, the royal visitors were greeted by rapturous applause from the crowds who had waited patiently outside watching the service on a big screen❤️ The royal party were taken into the reception area of St. Martins House, just a few yards away from the cathedral where the late Queen met various faith leaders while the Duke and Princess met outreach workers, lunch was held in the Grand Hall and their final stop was the Clock Tower in Leicester city centre where the trio received a gift from the City❤️

A new unseen portrait of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II has been published❤️ Artist Barbara Kaczmarowska Hamilton had the honour of painting a portrait of Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II at Windsor Castle on the 6th May 2022, the only private portrait sitting for the Platinum Jubilee year, and the final portrait Queen Elizabeth II sat for❤️ The young Barbara Kaczmarowska came to pay a visit to her friends in London, and stayed, over the years, the artist has painted numerous portraits of famous people and it is through painting that the Polish artist managed to reach the British aristocracy❤️ Today she is viewed as “the unofficial portraitist of the British royal family” because there are many Windsors among the people she has painted❤️ The first member of the royal family she ever portrayed was Prince Michael of Kent and painting was so popular that additional orders were made but the most important and the “most favourite” has been the portrait of the Queen Mother❤️ The artist also painted the Duke of Kent, Princess Anne, Duchess of York and her daughters❤️ Barbara Hamilton had received a very warm welcome at Windsor Castle, the dresser presented her with numerous of the late Queen’s dresses with accessories including famous brooches❤️ His Royal Highness the Duke of Kent unveiled the portrait in 2023 but the final portrait was completed in time for the 2022 Platinum Jubilee celebrations❤️ Her late Majesty had already seen the finished painting and wished it to be hung in the private apartments at Windsor Castle where she could admire it❤️ For her last ever portrait, Her late Majesty wore Queen Victoria’s 11 Pearl brooch❤️ Queen Victoria owned this brooch of 11 large pearls, 8 in an elaborate diamond setting of a diamond shape with three as pendants, this is one of the items Victoria designated as heirlooms of the Crown❤️ There are a few of those heirlooms that the Queen Mother particularly enjoyed and hung on to after her daughter acceded the throne, this is one, and she wore it during her husband’s reign and for the rest of her life❤️ It passed to the Queen Elizabeth II in 2002, and she waited until her 2009 Christmas broadcast to debut it publicly❤️

On this day in 2014, Her late Majesty the Queen and Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales hosted a reception for the Dramatic Arts at Buckingham Palace❤️ It was a star-studded event with Hollywood’s finest including Dame Angela Lansbury, Ralph Fiennes, Joan Collins, Roger Moore, Jude Law, Uma Thurman, Sir David Attenborough, David Tennant, Dame Helen Mirren and Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes on the guest list❤️ The reception was held in honour of Her late Majesty’s patronage, the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts (RADA) which offers vocational training for actors, stage managers, directors, designers and technical stage craft specialists❤️ Established in 1904, RADA has built an outstanding reputation as a world-renowned centre of excellence, offering the best possible facilities and strong links with the industries that employ graduates❤️ Her late Majesty and Her Royal Highness greeted 250 guests before moving to the Palace Ballroom for a series of short performances, after which, the royals moved through the state rooms meeting guests where Catherine shared a joke with Dame Helen Mirren saying “My husband called you granny last night”, Dame Helen played Her late Majesty in the film ‘The Queen’ which portrays a dramatised version of events following the royal family after the death of the late Princess of Wales in 1997❤️ This reception followed the previous night’s BAFTAs where Prince William was in attendance and presented Dame Helen Mirren with BAFTA Fellowship, the Prince said Dame Helen is a “remarkable actress” whom he should probably call “Granny”❤️ For the reception, Her late Majesty wore the Prince Albert Sapphire brooch which is a large oblong sapphire set in gold and surrounded by 12 round diamonds presented to Queen Victoria by Prince Albert on the 9th February 1840 the day before their wedding❤️ Victoria duly wore her present from “dearest Albert” on their wedding day and frequently afterwards up until Albert’s death, Queen Victoria’s obsessive love for her husband is well documented so it isn’t a surprise she left his brooch to the Crown alongside other important pieces of state jewellery, it’s been worn by Queens ever since❤️

On this day in 1952, Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II arrived home in the UK after the death of her father and ascension as Queen❤️ Prime Minister Winston Churchill asked the public not to attend Her May Majesty’s arrival: “The Prime Minister feels that it would be in accordance with the wishes of the public that the return of the Queen to London should be as quiet as possible and that Her Majesty should be met only by those whose official positions make it appropriate for them to be present at the airport,” read a statement from 10 Downing Street❤️ Mourning clothing was arranged for the new Queen which started the tradition of all royals travelling with a black outfit in case of a sudden royal death, according to Lady Pamela Hicks the situation was rectified within moments of touching back down in the U.K. “A black dress was quickly smuggled on board, because we didn’t have a black dress, so she quickly had to change”❤️ For her arrival home as Queen, Her late Majesty wore the Flame Lily brooch❤️ The then Princess Elizabeth celebrated her 21st birthday abroad, touring South Africa with her parents and sister, this brooch was one of her birthday presents from 42,000 children in Southern Rhodesia who were asked to donate a bit of pocket money each for the creation of this 301 diamond-strong platinum piece in the shape of a Flame Lily, a national flower❤️ Returning home from Kenya after her father’s death in 1952, this brooch was the sole striking ornamentation on the young Queen’s black outfit as she descended the steps of her plane❤️ On the 8th February 1952, Her late Majesty addressed the Accession Council at St. James’ Palace, saying: “By the sudden death of my dear father I am called to assume the duties and responsibilities of sovereignty, my heart is too full for me to say more to you today than I shall always work as my father did throughout his reign, to advance the happiness and prosperity of my peoples, spread as they are all the world over”❤️

On this day in 1952, Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Edinburgh ascended the throne as Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II after the death of her father, His Majesty King George VI❤️ On the 6th February 1952, Their Royal Highnesses had just returned to Sagana Lodge when word arrived of the death of the late King and consequently Elizabeth’s accession to the throne, Philip broke the news to the new Queen and Martin Charteris asked her to choose a regnal name but she chose to remain Elizabeth, thus was called Elizabeth II❤️ Her late Majesty was proclaimed Queen throughout her realms and the couple returned to the United Kingdom, with Elizabeth’s accession it seemed probable the royal house would bear the Duke of Edinburgh’s name so Lord Mountbatten advocated the name ‘House of Mountbatten’ and Philip suggested ‘House of Edinburgh’❤️ Prime Minister Winston Churchill and Queen Mary favoured House of Windsor and on the 9th April 1952 Her late Majesty declared that ‘Windsor’ would be the name of the royal house, in 1960 the surname Mountbatten-Windsor was adopted for male line descendants who do not carry titles❤️ The Coronation ceremony in Westminster Abbey on the 2nd June 1953, with the exception of the anointing and communion, was televised for the first time and Elizabeth’s coronation gown was embroidered on her instructions with the floral emblems of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth countries❤️ Her late Majesty the Queen became the first Monarch in British history to celebrate a Platinum Jubilee marking 70 years on the throne, the late Queen for decades had been the embodiment of service and sacrifice whilst being a devoted mother, wife, grandmother and great-grandmother❤️ God Save the Queen and long may she rest❤️

2/6/2024, 7:59:57 PM

On this day in 2022, ahead of her ascension day anniversary, Her late Majesty the Queen hosted a reception at Sandringham House for local charities and the @WomensInstitute❤️ The new photos of Her late Majesty released, as she became the first British Monarch ever to mark 70 years reign, were taken at Sandringham House by @jjgiddens fom PA❤️ Her late Majesty had a walking stick and those who met her just told individuals present that the late Queen was on sparkling form which is evident in the videos❤️ For the occasion, Her late Majesty wore the Queen Mary’s button earrings which came, like so much of the Queen’s jewellery collection, from her grandmother Queen Mary❤️ The late Queen paired these historic earrings with the small Nizam of Hyderabad Rose brooches which, as his wedding gift to the then Princess Elizabeth in 1947, the Nizam of Hyderabad opted for jewels from Cartier and were to be chosen by the bride herself who selected two pieces from Cartier’s existing stock, a diamond necklace and a tiara❤️ The floral tiara was composed of diamonds set in platinum, it featured three detachable rose brooches with en tremblant centers and a leafy background❤️ The late Queen wore the tiara in the years following her marriage, but she later opted to break it up and most of the diamonds were used to create the Burmese Ruby tiara but the three rose brooches remain❤️ There is one large brooch and two identical smaller brooches, the late Queen almost always wore the smaller two as a pair and the larger one by itself, the larger brooch is more frequently worn, though it is not among her most used pieces❤️ It’s made me quite emotional to see Her late Majesty, the late Queen had been a constant in my life since I was born and she was my first ever royal encounter at six months old so seeing her at this event about to celebrate her biggest milestone as Monarch was such a privilege to witness❤️ God Save the Queen and long may she rest❤️

I have recently come to the conclusion that the death of King George VI in 1952 led to Princess Margaret’s transformation into a deeply unhappy and distant member of the Royal Family and that to learn about the real Margaret we must examine her life before her father’s sudden death. In her book on her time as governess to Elizabeth and Margaret, Marion Crawford portrayed her as a carefree and mischievous young girl who enjoyed nothing more than playing pranks on her friends and doing the most unusual impressions… ‘One day the telephone bell rand at Nottingham Cottage, the grace and favour house in Kensington Palace given me to live in by King George VI. My husband answered the telephone. Then he put down the instrument as though it were red hot. “Good heavens, Crawfie!” He said. “Come here quickly. There’s someone pretty seriously ill on the other end of this line. You listen to this.” And he handed the receiver to me. I placed it to my ear. All I could hear was a weird mixture of sounds rising and falling. It was really like nothing on earth. For a moment or two I was at my wits’ end to make out what was happening at the other end of the telephone. Then gradually the sound seemed to sort themselves out, and I smiled inwardly. I knew what they were. Princess Margaret and the dressing-up box: One thing that I have always admired about Princess Margaret was her incredible fashion sense which was often influenced by her older sister Elizabeth and her aunt Princess Marina whom she idolised growing up. Margaret was especially envious of Princess Elizabeth as she was chosen to be a bridesmaid at Princess Marina’s wedding and it is also lovely to learn about the hours that the Princess spent playing in the fancy dress box at her maternal grandparent’s home Glamis Castle: ‘Even as a child she had her own ideas about clothes. It was not only that she loved dressing up for pantomimes, charades and games, but also that she showed wonderful integrity in designing costumes for herself and others. I have never known anyone with such facility in changing her facial expression, and her clothes with it. There used to be at Glamis Castle an enormous chest filled with all sorts of remnants of finery which provided the Bowes-Lyon children- including Princess Margaret’s mother- with endless opportunities for amusement. For Princess Margaret, it was a treasure chest. It would keep her enraptured for hours. I remember her once making up and changing herself so completely that when she came into the room, Princess Elizabeth and I hardly recognized her until she spoke. “I am a glamorous spy,” she said, in a deep, velvety voice. So some of you guessed correctly, I will be doing a new series on the lives of Royal Children over the last two-hundred years. I have so many different sources and theories which I am excited to share with you and I hope that you will like my research. To be honest I don’t really have a time frame and I will be sharing other topics as well yet must of my spare time is dedicated to researching this project. If there is a particular figure from history you would like to be interested then let me know. 📸3&4 RCT #princessmaryprincessroyal #princessmary #maryprincessroyal #princessmarycountessofharewood #countessofharewood #queenelizabethii #elizabethii #elizabeththesecond #queenelizabeththesecond #princesselizabeth #princesselizabethofyork #elizabethofyork #elizabethalexandramary #elizabethalexandramarywindsor #elizabethwindsor #queenmaudofnorway #maudofnorway #princessmaud #maudofwales #princessmaudofwales #alexandraofdenmark #queenalexandra #queenalexandrafashiontimeline #edwardvii #kingedwardvii #kinggeorgev #georgev #georgevi #kinggeorgevi #edwardviii

Tomorrow is King George VI’s birthday, however, it is also the anniversary of Grand Duchess Alice of Hesse’s death so I thought I would share a letter written to him from Lady Elizabeth Bowes-Lyon on the 16th of December 1921 today: ‘Dear Prince Bertie I was just starting to write to you for your birthday, when I read in the Morning Post that it was on Wednesday. I am so annoyed, as I thought it was tomorrow, and now it is over, and I shall have to wish you many happy returns of the day before yesterday. It was very stupid of me, as I remembered your birthday several days ago, & had it firmly fixed in my mind that it was Dec. 17th! Anyway, I send you lots of good wishes, and a very happy and successful 26th year. This is an impossible place to buy presents in, otherwise I should have brought a large and magnificent offering… All best wishes, Yours Sincerly Elizabeth’ Source: Shawcross, W. and Bowes-Lyon , E. I haven’t posted anything on Queen Elizabeth II for a while so I thought I would share this newspaper article from 1928: ‘The Duchess of York both sold and brought Christmas presents to-day when she had charge of a stall at the sale of Christmas presents at the Royal School of Needlework, of which she is president…During a tour of the stalls she made several purchases for little Princess Elizabeth. She had put on one side a dainty pink silk quilt for the Royal baby’s cot, and a pale blue “pram” cover. A cage containing a hen of many colours greatly amused the Duchess. When the door was opened the hen crowed loudly. “Betty will love that,” she said, and promptly brought it. Then she seized on a horse and cart, but the daintiest thing she brought for the Princess was a small box containing a dozen tiny reels of different coloured silk. “I shall be able to start Betty on needlework soon.” She said smilingly…’ Source: From Our, London Staff. On this day in 2019, Her late Majesty the Queen hosted a reception marking 70 years of the NATO alliance at Buckingham Palace❤️ The intergovernmental military alliance was established at the signing of the treaty in 1949, now 29 countries are involved and it exists to protect the people and territory of its members through collective defence❤️ The UK is one of NATO’s twelve founding members and London was home to its first headquarters at Belgravia Square; it was fitting to mark the 70th anniversary in the capital❤️ Other royals in attendance included Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales, Her Royal Highness the Princess Royal and Their Royal Highnesses the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester❤️ Prince William wasn't in attendance as he was undertaking a short official visit in Kuwait and Oman❤️ For the reception, Her late Majesty wore the Queen Mother’s Palm Leaf brooch❤️ One of the Queen Mother's favorite brooches was this palm leaf created for her by Cartier from stones already in her collection in 1938, it includes a centre of brilliant diamonds of varying shapes inside a curved diamond border❤️ The Queen Mother wore it throughout her life and the late Queen inherited the brooch when her mother passed away in 2002, it popped on and off Her late Majesty’s list of favorites❤️

On this day in 1947, Her Royal Highness the then Princess Elizabeth married Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten in Westminster Abbey❤️ Princess Elizabeth was attended by eight bridesmaids: The Princess Margaret, Princess Alexandra of Kent, Lady Caroline Montagu-Douglas-Scott, Lady Mary Cambridge, Lady Elizabeth Lambart, Lady Pamela Mountbatten, Margaret Elphinstone and Diana Bowes-Lyon with Prince William of Gloucester and Prince Michael of Kent serving as page boys plus the Marquess of Milford Haven as best man❤️ For her wedding dress, Elizabeth still required ration coupons to buy the material for her gown designed by Norman Hartnell, the dress was a duchesse satin bridal gown with motifs of star lilies and orange blossoms❤️ The ceremony was officiated by Geoffrey Fisher the Archbishop of Canterbury and Cyril Garbett the Archbishop of York, the ceremony was recorded and broadcast by BBC Radio to 200 million people around the world❤️ Before the wedding, Philip renounced his Greek and Danish titles, converted from Greek Orthodoxy to Anglicanism and adopted the style "Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten" taking the surname of his mother's British family❤️ The day before the wedding, King George VI bestowed the style "Royal Highness" and on the morning of the wedding Philip was made the Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth and Baron Greenwich of Greenwich in the County of London❤️ Upon their marriage, Princess Elizabeth took the title of her husband and became Her Royal Highness Princess Elizabeth, Duchess of Edinburgh❤️ The couple boarded a train to Hampshire at London Waterloo railway station and spent their wedding night at the home of the Duke of Edinburgh's uncle, the Earl Mountbatten of Burma, in Broadlands❤️ From there the couple travelled to Birkhall on the Balmoral Estate, where they spent the remainder of their honeymoon❤️ Her late Majesty and His late Royal Highness hold the record for longest royal marriage in British history and would’ve been celebrating 76 years of marriage today, I’m keeping the royal family in my thoughts as they remember this historic milestone❤️

On this day in 2011, Her Royal Highness the Princess of Wales attended her first Remembrance Service at the Cenotaph❤️ Catherine stood on the balcony with Her Majesty Queen Camilla, Her Royal Highness the Duchess of Edinburgh and Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence❤️ Protocol dictates that those married into the royal family, with the exception of the late Duke of Edinburgh, watch the service from a distance❤️ As the clock struck eleven a two-minute silence was observed, the silence represents the eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month in 1918 when the guns of Europe fell silent, the time is marked by the firing of a field gun on Horse Guards Parade❤️ The National Service of Remembrance at the Cenotaph in Whitehall is a unique expression of homage devoted to the memory of those who have given their lives in war❤️ It was originally conceived as a commemoration of the First World War's dead by King George V in 1919, but after the Second World War the scope of the ceremony was extended to focus on the dead of both wars❤️ In the U.K. poppies are worn during November to remember those who have passed away during conflicts from WWI-Present, poppies are worn as a show of support for the Armed Forces community, during WW1❤️ Much of the fighting took place in Western Europe, the countryside was blasted, bombed and fought over repeatedly and the previously beautiful landscapes turned to mud but there was a notable and striking exception to the bleakness, the bright red Flanders poppies, these resilient flowers flourished in the middle of so much chaos and destruction, growing in the thousands upon thousands❤️ It is thought that the red of the petals represents the blood of those who gave their lives, the black button in the middle is for the mourning of those who never welcomed their loved ones home and the green leaf shows the hope that the grass and crops growing after the war brings❤️

On this day in 2017, Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and His Royal Highness the late Duke of Edinburgh were joined by members of the royal family for the annual Remembrance Day service at the Cenotaph❤️ This Remembrance Day marked a significant moment for the royal family, for the first time in her reign, aside from a handful of occasions she was absent when pregnant or overseas, the late Queen did not lay a wreath instead leading the service from a balcony❤️ Her late Majesty asked King Charles to lay her wreath, a decision seen as an example of a shift in head of state duties from the late Queen to the then Heir to the throne, Buckingham Palace said the decision reflected her wish to be next to Prince Philip on this poignant day❤️ The first stroke of Big Ben at 11am and the firing of a gun from Horse Guards Parade by The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery marked the start of two minutes of silence, which was followed by The Last Post, sounded by the Buglers of the Royal Marines❤️ The National Service of Remembrance was originally conceived as a commemoration of the First World War's dead by King George V in 1919 but after the Second World War the scope of the ceremony was extended to focus on the dead of both wars and every conflict since❤️ In the U.K. poppies are worn during November to remember those who have passed away during conflicts from WWI-Present, poppies are worn as a show of support for the Armed Forces community, during WW1, much of the fighting took place in Western Europe, the countryside was blasted, bombed and fought over repeatedly and the previously beautiful landscapes turned to mud but there was a notable and striking exception to the bleakness, the bright red Flanders poppies, these resilient flowers flourished in the middle of so much chaos and destruction, growing in the thousands upon thousands❤️ It is thought that the red of the petals represents the blood of those who gave their lives, the black button in the middle is for the mourning of those who never welcomed their loved ones home and the green leaf shows the hope that the grass and crops growing after the war brings❤️

What was Princess Margaret really like? Princess Margaret has often been portrayed as a little bit of a snob however I do not necessarily believe that this is the case and here's why; As Princess Margaret once said ‘It is inevitable, when there are two sisters and one is the Queen, who must be the source of honour and all that is good, while the other must be the focus of the most creative malice, the evil sister.’ From a very early age, Princess Margaret often found herself compared to her older sister who very rarely did anything remotely naughty. Unfortunately, the comparisons became much worse after her sister ascended to the throne in 1952 as the press wanted to portray the new Queen as everything that is wonderful about the Royal Family and one way to do this was to villainize Princess Margaret. As a young adult, Princess Margaret desperately sought the approval of the British Press but no matter how hard Margaret tried the Press always found fault in whatever Margaret said or did. In the end, Margaret gave up trying to please people and began to play the rude Princess that people almost expected and wanted to see. #princessmargaret #princessmargaretrose #princessmargaretcountessofsnowdon #princessmargaretedit #princessmargaretrosewindsor #margaretrosewindsor #countessofsnowdon #princessmargaretofyork #elizabethandmargaret #queenelizabethii #elizabeththesecond #princesselizabeth #princesselizabethofyork #elizabethofyork #elizabethofyorkedit #elizabethalexandramary #elizabethalexandramarywindsor #queenelizabeththequeenmother #elizabethboweslyon #ladyelizabeth #boweslyon #georgevi #kinggeorgevi #dukeofyork #duchessofyork #queenelizabeth #princephilip #dukeofedinburgh #duchessofedinburgh #philibeth
