Three years ago today, I sank into - LITERALLY - my worst nightmare… and didn’t wake up from that nightmare for three weeks. Three years ago… I almost died. I’ve gotten so used to saying “I almost died” and talking about the coma that sometimes it doesn’t really hit me how blessed I am to still be here. Even the doctor who saved my life acknowledges that it was a miracle that I pulled through. As I reflect on that horrible nightmare that was the coma, I’m reminded of a vision I had where I saw Heaven. It was empty… and looked like a multipurpose room that I used to perform in before my forced hiatus… but I was convinced I had passed away, and Jesus was there. Behind me. He told me that it was not my time to join Him yet, and that there were people in my life who I still need to tell about Him. He loves us perfectly. Nobody else loves us the way He does. I haven’t been as bold as I would like to be since I woke up from that coma, but I won’t give up. Jesus is real and He is love. Pure and holy love. I pray that everyone I come in contact with, in person or virtually, will receive and experience His matchless love that can’t really begin to be understood until He is received as Lord and Savior. I know one day I’ll be back in that room with Him, surrounded by my eternal brothers and sisters and our Heavenly Father. Elle had a really great day. She talked and laughed and ate and watched tv. It was good to see her smiling! This is probably the best “day” she’s had since the beginning of February. It’s hard to believe that she’s been sick for almost two full months. A good day is what she needed. Unfortunately, nights are hard for her. She gets jittery and agitated. Once again, we’re doing what awe can to make her comfortable in the evenings so she’s able to stay calm and let herself relax. Due to the long covid, she’s developed tremors in her arms/hands/legs sometimes her whole body shakes and she just can’t stop which upsets her even more. She had an eval from pt and ot and she’ll have home health for skilled nursing in addition to OT/PT when we head home. I’m not sure when that will be, but we’re hoping it will be by the weekend. We’re also working on getting her in to the long Covid clinic and Vanderbilt. EVALI stands for e-cigarette and vaping-associated lung injury. EVALI was first described in 2019 in the USA with studies suggesting that tetrahydrocannabinol (THC)-containing e-cigarette, or vaping, products, particularly from informal sources like friends, family, or online dealers, were linked to most EVALI cases. However, evidence was not sufficient to rule out the contribution of other chemicals of concern, including chemicals in either THC or non-THC products, in some of the reported EVALI cases. As of February 18, 2020, a total of 2,807 hospitalised EVALI cases or deaths were reported to the Centre for Disease Control in the US. This included a total of 68 deaths. More recent data has shown it can result from ‘standard’ EC use [2] but not on the scale as the 2019/2020 outbreak in the USA. EVALI is characterised by severe inflammation in someone who regularly vapes, without infection of the lungs. Nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) is a promising compound that has garnered attention for its potential in improving various aspects of human health. Over the course of several years, we have followed as studies attempted to dissect the cause of increasing cases of lung injuries (called EVALI) related to ENDS (electronic nicotine delivery systems) products. On Saturday night Bryson and His friend were involved in a severe rollover accident at around 8. When we received the Call we heard he was in critical condition. He was life flighted to a trauma center in Reno shortly after. He has serious spinal injuries and multiple lung punctures along with several broken ribs. E-cigarette or vaping product use associated lung injury (EVALI). EVALI was first reported in the United States in Oct 2019. Until February 2020, as many as 2807 cases and 68 deaths have been reported in America. Europe reported its first EVALI case in March 2020. In Malaysia, 2 EVALI cases have been identified. They are both teenagers who suffered from permanent disability and now requiring continuous oxygen support. Vaping is illegal in Singapore since August 1, 2016. Despite the legal ban, it has been reported that vaping continues to grow steadily as a trend in Singapore since 2018. Vaping involves breathing in chemicals such as nicotine and flavors in aerosol form. The difference between vaping and smoking is that smoking delivers nicotine and other chemicals by burning solid tobacco. On the other hand, vaping does so by heating a liquid through an e-cigarette or other device like a vape pen. These vape liquids are sold in cartridges or custom containers, with propylene glycol often used as a base to create the vapor. There are thousands of vaping products with varying ingredients, including illicit substances. There are also many counterfeit products out in the market, easily purchasable via e-commerce. These cartridges with varying chemical cocktails may contain acrolein and formaldehyde and these are chemical found in insecticides, car exhaust and even embalming fluid used to preserve dead bodies. Vitamin E acetate is also strongly associated with EVALI. It is found largely in the counterfeit brands of vapes or e-cigarettes. These substances are toxic to the lungs and are capable of triggering an inflammatory response which can damage the narrow passageways in the lungs. Symptoms are similar to pneumonia as patients suffer from shortness of breath, chest pain and dry cough. It is hard to pin point the cause of EVALI as the possibility of other substances cannot be ruled out. No one knows why some people get EVALI and others do not. One thing we know for sure is that this is a rising issue in need of serious attention and action.

✅This study was designed to investigate the protective effect of penehyclidine hydrochloride (PHC) on cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB)-related lung injury in rats and the related mechanisms. ✅Thirty-six rats were divided into control, CPB and PHC groups. The CPB model was established in CPB and PHC groups. In PHC group, 2-mg/kg PHC was added to the pre-filling solution for CPB modeling. At 30 min before CPB (T1), immediately after left hilar opening (T2) and end of experiment (T3), the hemodynamic indexes, blood gas indexes, serum inflammatory factors, lung wet-day ratio and water content and lung tissue oxidative stress indexes were determined. ✅At T2 and T3, compared with CPB group, in PHC group the heart rate and mean arterial pressure increased significantly, the oxygenation index increased significantly, the respiratory index decreased significantly, and the lung wet-day ratio and water content decreased significantly. At T3, compared with CPB group, in PHC groups the serum tumor necrosis factor α, interleukin 6 and interleukin 1β levels decreased significantly, the lung tissue superoxide dismutase level increased significantly, and the myeloperoxidase and malondialdehyde levels decreased significantly. ✅PHC treatment can alleviate the CPB-related lung injury in rats. Asbestosis is probably the single most important work-related lung disease & is caused by inhaling fibers of asbestos, a heat-resistant and insulating material. Asbestosis fibers and dust containing silica penetrate and irritate the outer parts of the lung, causing inflammation and, over the years, pulmonary fibrosis (that is thickening and scarring of lung tissue). An extended period, sometimes 20 years or more, may elapse between exposure to the dust and onset of the disease. Breathlessness is the main symptom of asbestosis and silicosis and it becomes increasingly severe as the disease develops. There may also be a dry cough and a feeling of tightness in the chest. Eventually, respiratory failure develops. No matter how much time has passed between exposure to the dust and onset of the disease, it is NOT too late.
