The mystery of the missing eggs from the pumpkin patch has been solved! . Chriss who’s currently staying downstairs thankfully isn’t a screaming snake phobia person & very calmly closed the laundry door & texted me to let me know I needed to come herd the chickens off the back porch & call the snake catcher. Then left to go to meet friends & recover from the heart attack level fright of finding a Python napping on the back tank stand right outside the downstairs laundry door. . Judging by the belly bulge the Python had eaten the 5 eggs I couldn’t find in the pumpkin patch yesterday afternoon despite having seen them earlier in the day. The pumpkin patch is right behind that tank stand so a good Python snack then sleep spot. Python was very docile when the lady from Snake Catcher Sunshine Coast came to remove the Python as the sun hadn’t fully hit that area of the yard so it hadn’t had time to warm up. . Oviraptor OH-vee-RAP-tor It is believed that the Oviraptor was an omnivore, and ate a variety of food, including eggs, hence its name, which means 'egg thief.' It earned this name due to the initial discovery of its fossils being uncovered with what was thought to have been protoceratops eggs. Oviraptors may have measured 2 metres from beak to tail, they had no teeth. Lightly built, they moved on two hind limbs and it is thought that they nested with their eggs in a similar way to modern day birds, due to being found amongst their brood. - Stoat & Weasel - Mixed Media… Forged and fabricated mild steel with solid brass grass seeds and acorns. Sheet copper oak leaves and a copper and brass Mokume Gane Egg. TIG welded, copper coated Stoat and Weasel. These 2 pieces are for the same customer that commissioned the Stoat and Weasel themed garden sculpture! The customer wanted to almost continue the exterior piece into his home by having these smaller works created. I am always keen to try and expand what little experience I have of other metals besides steel, and the customer themselves wanted to try and incorporate a bit of colour without the use of paints etc. So for these pieces I thought I would experiment more with the process of TIG welding/Brazing with copper. I had given it a go in the past when I made a “Red Kite” and thought the process may be just the trick to give these marvellous mustelids a nice, rusty orange colouring. I had a few accident with this one, a melted copper leaf, a broken drill bit in the brass and a very fiddly egg fitting!…. But if I am one thing… I am persistent…. or stubborn (depending on which way you look at it). 😅 It’s amazing how much someone can swear and paddy… whilst still thoroughly enjoying themselves! About a month ago, we moved the chickens to fresh ground, and half the chickens decided they wanted to lay their eggs in the nook of the pine tree instead of the nesting box. Last weekend I went to collect eggs and the nest was empty without a trace of eggshell left behind. So, here we have "Baby Yingliang" for #53 A damn near perfectly preserve dinosaur embryo found Gamzhou in southern China. It's thought to be an oviraptorid (see #19 for more about them!) While having young specimens is rare, having one like this is a 1:1000000 find! This fossil actually gives more evidence to the link between dinosaurs and birds. The embro is all balled up in a "tucking" position.
