The very definition of #retinitispigmentosa Lasery surgery has been a success, right eye is clear and bright - left eye is doing its thing - basically having a mini-break as it’s done all the ‘seeing’ for 2 years and needs some down time. Conflict happens when the two things you want to do are directly opposed to each other - you want to say hi, but you're also worried about what will happen when you do (approach/avoidance). Sometimes conflict behaviours in dogs can be harder to spot but they're actually pretty common. I realised an excellent human example of feeling conflicted occurs when you wake in the night and realise you need the toilet. You are really warm and cosy and still half asleep but you also really need a wee! To get up and go to the toilet means waking yourself up fully and getting cold. Maybe you lay in bed for a bit hoping you don't actually need a wee and your body is just pretending. But alas, you do, its probably (unless you have young children) the reason you woke up! But here is a great example of internal conflict in our brains. Can you think of any more? I know it's only for 2 weeks. I know that I should just enjoy my vacation. But how can I not be in Israel for the seder?! How can I read the Haggadah when every word is telling me to be in Israel? That HaShem took us out of Mitzrayim to live in Israel. That it wasn't enough to just bring us out of Mitzrayim and give us the Torah. That HaShem needed to bring us into Eretz Yisrael. Every word. Every song. Every lesson. It's all about Israel. And yet, I'm spending Pesach in America?! It doesn't make sense. I'm happy I was here for the Bar Mitzvah & I know that I had to choose to be in Israel for Pesach or here for the bar mitzvah. I believe that I chose right. But the pain is real. The pain is felt. I'm genuinely sad. I'm missing home. My heart is in one place and my body is in another. I know it's only for two weeks. I know it will pass. Sunday, April 7. I’m not Jewish or Palestinian, but I am human. Today marks six months of unimaginable terror, ongoing suffering, trauma, tragedy… I may post all smiles, but internally, I am conflicted, filled with melancholy and sadness, disbelief, grief…..It’s hard to reconcile the simultaneous joy and guilt one feels after experiencing another magical vacation in Italy, while so much horror and pain is still being inflicted upon so many people around the world. Nestled off a little alley street near ikebukuro station in Tokyo is this lovingly restored architectural gem by Frank Lloyd Wright. I found the complex surprisingly diminutive in real life. As the proportions in pictures make it appear so grand. Spectacular nonetheless. Initially commissioned as a girls school by husband and wife Yoshikazu and Motoko Hani, who founded Jiyu Gakuen Myonichikan, Wright took this project on as a one-off while working on the Imperial Hotel , which no longer exists in its original form. Translated the name means: freedom school House of Tomorrow, such a forwarding thinking and optimistic perspective pervasive of culture in general then. Somehow it managed to survive the bombings nearby in WWII and is the only Wright designed building still standing in its originally conceived entirety. The imperial hotel has but a single room that's a simulacra of its original that you can stay in (for the 1% 🤑😒🙄) It was built in a time when quality of education (particularly for girls) and craftsmanship were highly valued as a fiber of society. It makes me sad thinking about the state of education and the "house of today" in America/globally, tbh. As a side note, I do have issues reconciling my love for Wright's architecture and the man himself. #conflicted Wondering whether there will come a time when humans can be more holistically good. The price of admission was absurdly low (weak yen or not. True of many cultural sites/ museums in Tokyo. Only complaining for all things in SF Grrrr) They even offer a very simple coffee, tea or wine with tea cake, which was pinkish and Oo insists it's because the cherry blossoms in bloom are pink. 🌸 The woman at the counter tried several times to insist that my child have an apple juice in Japanese (ostensibly because she's a child and tea has caffeine.) it was amusing and (health)sweet, particularly in a country that doesn't even have an equivalent to NyQuil because they consider its combined ingredients a narcotic, per Reddit.
