This Sunday we’re performing a free concert as the grand finale of the annual Greta’s Run for @imaginenj and we will be performing “Can You See Me” for the very first time! It’s a soul-stirring grief song with a lot of hope at the end. It was inspired by my friend @frenchie1279 who tragically lost her husband and son last year. I haven’t walked in her shoes and cannot imagine the grief she has dealt with, but I can only pray that I can deal with loss in the graceful and strong way that she has. She inspired me to write a song from the perspective of a wife missing her late husband, wondering if he sees her doing all the things he used to do. As much as I hate jetlag; there are few things I enjoy more than moments like this : speaking and working with teens using songwriting to help them express themselves through music. Today was my first session [of six!] In this academic year, so we kicked it off with a presentation about my story: who I am, what I do, and why I do it... [More about that in my first TEDx Talk from 2022] ... and then we joined forces to write a collaborative verse focusing on the values we each lead our lives by. Here's what they came up with: "I'm an antihero But I care about family I refuse to live in the status quo I fight against injustice of any kind I care about creativity I take comfort in who I am, and my own mind" [Side note: I love love love that they used an ABA CBC rhyming structure. #iykyk] Their homework? To write a chorus summarizing this verse into their own mantras that express their values. I love it. Seriously. How blessed am I to be able to do this kind of work with so many young people?!

Look who’s coming to Memphis! We are thrilled to have @andreawittgens attend the @goffin_king_foundation songwriting retreat this June! NYC-based alt-pop artist Andrea Wittgens is a sonic shapeshifter. Originally from Nova Scotia, Canada she grew up on old jazz vinyl, modern dance and 80s synth pop, first training as a classical pianist before leaving music school to cut her songwriting teeth in the dive bars of grunge-era Seattle. With over 150 songs written and released, Andrea is an adventurous collaborator and passionate about her songwriting community. Her music can be heard anywhere from network TV to indie films to fringe theatre and Disney movies. Opener:EMILIE SANDIN (Songwriting/ Pop, Ilsede) Die Newcomerin Emilie Sandin stand schon mit jungen Jahren auf den Bühnen in und um ihrer Heimat Peine und sang die Songs ihrer liebsten Künstlerinnen. Die junge Musikerin beeindruckte damals schon mit ihrer Versatilität, denn sowohl gefühlvolle Balladen, als auch die ganz großen Pop/Rock-Hits performt sie mit Bravour. Dieses Talent spiegelt sich nun auch in ihrer eigenen Musik wider. 2022 veröffentlichte die junge Sängerin ihre erste Single „With You“. In dem elektronischen Dark Pop Track schließt mit einer toxischen Beziehung ab. 2023 erschien die erste EP namens „Colours“, in der Emilie Sandin ihre Zuhörerinnen auf eine sehr persönliche Reise einlädt. Die Songwriterin zeigt sich mit melancholischen Titeln wie „Lonely“ und „Learn To Love“ von einer sehr zerbrechlichen Seite, im Vergleich zu der toughen Lead Single „With You“.
