Birdman or (The Unexpected Virtue of Ignorance) (2014): A very artistic film and definitely not what I was expecting going in. Nonetheless it was very, very good. It’s more of psychological drama that looks into the protagonist’s mental health after falling from superstardom. I love that Michael Keaton is casted for this because of his time as Batman, and it feels very funny and on the nose when the actual names of other superhero actors are mentioned. But back to the actual story. It was really well written, very Fight Club reminiscent with how the protagonist has 2 conflicting versions of himself. The film does a great job at conveying the stress and mental toll that is being placed on the protagonist as it seems like everyone and everything is against him when trying to succeed and make a comeback. The acting is excellent, especially from Keaton and Edward Norton (he should be good at these kind of movies by now). I’m also a huge fan of the ‘one-take’ filming aspect and how it seamlessly transitions from each scene without looking like the camera cuts. The ending, which I obviously won’t spoil, was also perfect imo. Even though Marilyn Monroe and Joe DiMaggio parted ways in 1954, their divorce was not official until 1955. They continued to spend significant time together even after announcing the divorce. Their final public appearance together was in June 1955, coinciding with Marilyn’s relationship with Arthur Miller. They reunited in 1960 after the announcement of Marilyn and Arthur’s separation. 2. Marilyn’s peers often commented on what a potty mouth she had! Some say she was very prone to swearing a LOT. On one occasion she apparently called Billy Wilder as she had a message. The story goes that Wilder’s wife Audrey answered the phone, and told Marilyn that Billy wasn’t home. “Well, when you see him, will you give him a message for me?” Marilyn said. “Tell him to go f*ck himself. And my warmest personal regards to you.” 3. To prevent excessive bleaching of her hair, Marilyn would choose to cover her brunette roots with headscarves and frequently donned wigs.
