There are times on our stepmom journey when we encounter people that others get along really well with and we don’t get along with them at all. There may be people in your stepfamily or connected to your stepfamily (ex, in-laws, etc.) that you have a different opinion about because of how you’ve experienced them. The way we experience people differs because of how we are wired, our likes and dislikes, our values, our expectations, our encounters with them, how they’ve treated us, the dynamics involved, etc. So often we feel guilty for feeling the way we do towards members of our stepfamily or extended stepfamily and it’s key to note that our experience with that person or people may be very different to the experience others have with them. It’s always important to extend grace, give people a second chance and to forgive, but it’s equally important to set new or firmer boundaries or block someone in order to protect your peace. Happy Monday babes 💕! Another weekend in the books! My stepdaughter graduated 👩🏽🎓 from high school this past weekend and now it is time for the REAL WORLD 🌎! I hate that for the kids sometimes, because it is SO MUCH to learn and understand and they SWEAR they know it all! I know I felt like I knew everything at her age, but I surely had to grow up quickly from being a teen mom! It was A LOT of lessons learned, but I think I turned out alright 🤭💕! Next year is my son’s last year of high school 🏫 and I will be doing this all over again! I pray 🙏🏾 for strength and maturity for these children and that us as parents teach them not to struggle like we did and have something set up for them and guide them through the process. Whether it is adding them to your credit card 💳 to build their credit, putting money 💰 aside to get their first house 🏡, or helping them start their entrepreneurial journey due to some amazing skills they have. Had a wonderful Stepmother’s Day today when I decided to let go of my expectations and enjoy my stepdaughters successes instead. Emma won 1st place in her races and Anna performed in her shows. While their mother and the law will never acknowledge my sacrifices and investment in them, I see my influence everyday in their achievements and in their hearts. I love these girls like my own and always show up for them no matter my obstacle. I’ve come to learn that motherhood isn’t about giving birth, it is about the dedication that comes after. The girls always make me handmade cards, and this year made a silver piece with owls and a handwritten engraved message on the back made with their dad that I will now carry with me always. Emma brought my favorite Gideon’s cookies back from Orlando after her race, including a cute library candle. Then they all took me to dinner even after being up since 2:30am. Motherhood has been the hardest job I have ever had mostly because of things outside of their control, but these girls make all that BS absolutely worth it. Late Mother’s Day post. 😅 it wasn’t my first Mother’s Day, it was just the first that looked “normal” to others. Did you know that 1 in 8 couples experience infertility issues. Did you know that 20% of pregnancies end in miscarriage and 80% of those happen in the first 3 months of being pregnant. Think about all those moms who hear that heartbeat and see their little ones, just to be told there is no longer a heart beat. Then having to face a world who tells them they aren’t mothers because they lost their child. (Make that make sense 🤯). Did you know that all step moms aren’t bad? Sometimes they truly just want to be apart of their step child’s life. They make sacrifices everyday for a child they did not birth or adopt but yet they are very rarely accepted by society. We are constantly told “love that child like your own” “that’s not your child you’re doing to much” “you can’t do that your not their mom” “why don’t you do that for them? You should treat them as if they were your child” there’s no winning or losing there’s no in between. Being a “mom” isn’t always just black and white. Google says being a good mom is “caring deeply for her children and is patient and dependable. She also communicates well and balances the limited time in performing the unending tasks of child raising. Good mothers must also navigate challenges such as guilt, lack of support, balancing work and family, and self-care.” For me I was doing all of these things before actually giving birth to healthy baby girl. But I love both of my girls just as equally, bio or step, they are both my girls and I love doing life with them. I can’t believe we’re 22w tomorrow and how quickly we’ll be meeting our newest little babe. It’s been such a beautiful journey, and I do not take for granted how fortunate I am to get to bring two lives into this world. Pregnancy #1 was such a whirlwind—so much to learn, and everything was a new experience. Pregnancy #2 has been so different, but also so familiar! This sweet, caring, absolutely delightful little boy came into my life 5 years ago and completely flipped it upside down. He made me question everything I thought I wanted in life. I actively avoided dating men with kids in the past bc I didn’t want to be a mom. But boy, was I mistaken. Now that I’m here, I could never walk away. I never knew just how easy it could be to love a child you didn’t help create. It’s the easiest thing in the world. I hope he knows I’ll always be here for him and I will always do everything I can to make him happy. He makes me strive to be better everyday, and he’s made me grow up a lot over the years. Didn't get to see JA last night at the Winstar Casino in Thackerville, Ok. 5/18/24. I couldn't get tix this time, but it was okay though if I didn't get to see him. But I did travel down there anyway with my mom @scoobydoogrl69 and my brother Justin where Jason was performing, just to see my JA buddy and bonus mom @tammygh079. Because I don't get to see her everyday (she lives in a different state). It was an opportunity to see her in person since she was in Oklahoma. The last time we saw each other in person was in 2019 when we JA together in Durant, Ok. It was long overdue and a long time coming. We spent some time together, hung out for a bit before the show, but had to head back before the show started, so she and her niece can start heading into the venue to see @jasonaldean. Wish I was there to see JA live too. But most importantly it literally made my entire night/weekend, made me happy, made me smile and put me in a really good mood because I got to see Tammy. Because she really has been helping me through this battle I've been in and fighting the past year (especially these past few months). She has always been there for me no matter what. I'm so thankful that she came into life, and so very happy that I got to see her again. Literally hands down the best weekend of my life!! 💙 It really was good seeing you again, it has been long overdue. It truly made my heart happy that I got to see you and give you a hug, I really needed that!! So thankful to have you in my life, you're literally the best friend I could ask for, you really do make my heart happy. You literally mean the whole world to me. Thank you for everything you do! I used to pray for what I have now… Yesterday as I washed and folded laundry I thought, Lord, help me enjoy this in a month or in 30 years as much as I do right now. I prayed the same thing as I swept and mopped. In each new thing I get to do in this new season of life, Lord, help me. Help me be grateful for it and the people you’ve placed in my life. Help me never forget the hard seasons - not so that I live there, but so that I keep learning. Seasons change. I can testify that each season isn’t easy, but God can show us the beauty in each day when we ask Him. (& even beg Him...) Sometimes being grateful is just being thankful we have a family to wash clothes for and a home to clean… When we have none of that and things aren’t as we hoped for, pray to remember: -it’s just a season -the heartache won’t last -God is still the best Father (I can testify this helps^^^) Praise God for this new season I’m in now.
