The isolation and frustration we experience can be overwhelming and deeply painful. Many of us, before experiencing parental alienation firsthand, might have naively believed that such manipulation and control couldn't happen to us or our children. I talk for myself and my clients all say the same too. We have enjoyed happy, close relationships with our children. How could anything ever change that? We may have even presumed before parental alienation darkened our doors, that children don’t leave unless something has gone wrong … no smoke without fire. We, like many, were unaware of the insidious nature of parental alienation involving covert psychological abuse and coercive control. ⁠ ⁠ Unfortunately, when we reach out to legal and mental health professionals for support and intervention, the response can often compound our feelings of helplessness, frustration and isolation. Moreover, the misunderstanding from friends, family members, and the wider public further exacerbates our sense of isolation and grief. Hearing well-meaning but uninformed comments such as "I would never let that happen to me" only serves to deepen the alienation and intensify feelings of shame and self-blame. ⁠ ⁠ Yet, through facing these immense challenges, we can grow stronger and more resilient and find support in groups where others are enduring the same injustice and trauma. We can transform our pain. We can focus on self-care and finding a way through this. I’m here every day offering guidance and spreading awareness about something that is not well enough known or supported. I hope this changes and soon.⁠

Some people think only fathers get alienated and a mother couldn’t possibly lose her children. Many mothers stay silent because they feel so ashamed. In fact, all the alienating parent needs is access – they don’t need to be custodial. They need a reason to latch on to for their alienating purposes (any excuse will do so long as it undermines the other parent). And then they engage in alienating behaviours (lies, badmouthing, denigration, obstruction, mirroring, triangulation etc.) I'm Charlie's partner in life/work. Over ten years without my children, Mother’s Day was one of the hardest days before they returned to England. I don’t even buy into these commercialised days, but it just highlighted what should have, might have been. It was the same with birthdays, and Christmas, especially as my children were on the other side of the world, and the timing for phone calls (and the ability to connect) was challenging.⁠ ⁠ On our first date, Charlie and I soon realised we had the traumatic experience of ‘parental alienation’ in common, our children turned against us, having previously both had loving, close and happy relationships. Like many of you, I was the only parent in their life for most of their lives, and I did all I could to keep their father (and his family) close – including holidays, Christmas and birthdays together. I went from being the ‘best mum in the world’ to being unsafe/demonised/alienated. For my part, I kept busy. I typically spent mother's day doing lunch or something nice for my mum. I sent love (from my heart though not in person/reality) to my children and imagined them happy. I reminded myself they were unaware it was Mother’s Day in the UK ....⁠ I focussed on the love, not the loss, the present, not the past, which we always advocate. Focus on you today. Do things that make you feel better. You may not be with your children, but you are still a parent. No one can take away your love for your children. You don’t lose your children to 'pa' because you’re not a good parent. You have loved as dearly and deeply as anyone can; that love is forever. I wish you as much happiness and love as possible this Mother’s Day. Emma x

This is by far one of the most difficult days for an alienated mother. My advice for you is to STAY ALIVE! Whatever it takes STAY ALIVE! In many cases, the goal of the alienator is to literally drive you to suicide. Do not give them that satisfaction. STAY ALIVE! If you stay alive you have a better chance to set the record straight when your kids get older. You at least have a chance to see them on a better path away from the sociopathy of the alienator. #parentalalienation #mothersday #happymothersday

Unpopular opinion alert but just because it’s not popular doesn’t mean it’s not my truth and that is ok . I’m usually all about all holidays but unpopular opinion I despise all things Mother’s Day related . If the world isn’t hard enough on our mental health let’s throw in a “Hallmark” holiday where we spend all day trying to get perfect family photos to post online for other women to drool over and want what you have. We as women have became our own worst enemies. We didn’t used to know what sally four houses down the road had for dinner last Tuesday because we didn’t have social media lifestyle standards. Today and everyday honestly take a moment to enjoy the moment for just what it is NOT for how can I post this on social media . All of that to say if you love this holiday I see you and cheer you on . If you hate all things mothers day and choose to stay in bed all day and watch Netflix I see you and that is OK. Something I have really learned more and more is that you shouldn’t be guilted into anything . However you choose to celebrate or not celebrate Mother’s Day today is exactly right as long as it feels right to you . Mother’s Day is not a one size fits all kinda holiday .
