@theluumaclub A message from our CEO Cheila Gibbs… Cheila is here to discuss an important and insightful topic, managing toxic people: How to Detox Your Life In a world where self-care is paramount, one of the most crucial steps is cutting out toxic individuals. Whether it’s the overbearing boss who constantly undermines you, the friend who thrives on drama, or the partner who drains your happiness, these relationships can weigh you down. Identifying Toxicity: - The Boss: A relentless perfectionist who never appreciates your efforts. - The Friend: Constantly gossiping and dragging you into negative situations. - The Partner: Emotionally manipulative and always putting you down. Why It Matters: Toxic relationships erode your self-esteem, sap your energy, and hinder your personal growth. By eliminating these negative influences, you’re creating space for positivity and personal development. Setting Boundaries: It’s essential to establish clear boundaries with toxic individuals. Learning to say no and prioritizing your well-being is not selfish; it’s self-preservation. Surround Yourself with Positivity: By cutting toxic ties, you make room for supportive, uplifting relationships. Choose to surround yourself with those who lift you up and inspire you to be your best self. Ready to detox your life? It’s time to let go of toxic influences and embrace a future filled with positivity and growth. Sometimes my clients and I sit and reminisce about their hair before they found our salon. We laugh, we shake heads sometimes but we always look back and think of how far we’ve come together! Here you’ll see a beautiful, clean blonde. Well this blonde hasn’t been done in 6 weeks! Amanda came in for a blowdry to have a chat, a laugh, to feel better and when we finished we both really did feel amazing. We looked back on her hair and couldn’t believe how beautiful the colour is after 6 weeks! So we took a photo, proud as punch 😂 If you swipe to the other picture this is how Amanda entered the salon on her very first visit, only 4 colour visits ago! She believed she was getting a full head of foils every time she visited her last salon and we found so much darkness hidden in the back! All I can say is, you know that happiness you feel when you leave with the hair you desired, I feel it too. Just as much, I promise 🩷 #sunshinecoasthairdresser #sunshinecoast #sunshinecoastbeauty #palmviewhairdresser #palmview #aussieworld #hairdresser #clientlove #workrelationships #hairrelationship #beautielaine

There was a guy I used to work with at a large fintech company. He was a senior developer and was often in our cross-functional team planning meetings. He seldom spoke, but when he did, you could feel the energy of the room shift toward discomfort. Sometimes even visible eyerolls. He was consistently critical. He made our work harder. I loved that guy. He saw what the rest of us didn’t. Every judgement and quip made us better. He taught me the value of the naysayer. Although easy to dismiss (and often hard to ignore), “negative”, critical people have something to offer. They challenge the status quo. They make us uncomfortable; that’s where growth is. And where the revolution starts. Naysayers often say what others are afraid to. They’re passionate about their cause, even if that’s a crusade about where the cups should go. They usually have a reason. They spot risks that others are blind to. Or avoiding. They’re quick to judge your plan, but an asset when you need to vet it. I’m not suggesting that we should always listen or give space for the negative viewpoint. Sometimes negativity is unhelpful, harmful, or even dangerous. So is toxic positivity. But we shouldn’t be so quick to dismiss it. The next time you notice the naysayer — in yourself or others — consider these questions: • What is this person trying to say? • Why are they saying it? • What do they know that you don’t? • What do they care about that you don’t? The answers will either prompt you to make your work better or give you insight into the naysayer’s personal struggle; their work that’s perhaps spilling into yours. In the latter case, we don’t necessarily need to respond (it’s for them to find out). What's your take on the naysayer? Is it you? #negativity #changemanagement #teamwork #communication #workrelationships

Alright y’all, let’s talk about the elephant in the room - AI. Now, I know what you might be thinking... “Oh great, another millennial trying to convince us that robots are the answer to all our problems.” But hear me out! As a proud recovering workaholic, I know firsthand how easy it is to get caught up in the daily grind and forget about the most important part of our jobs - the people we work with! But what if I told you that AI could actually help us prioritize building relationships at work, instead of just piling more tasks on our plates? Now, I’m not saying we should let the robots take over completely (I’ve seen enough sci-fi movies to know how that ends). But we can definitely use AI to our advantage by: 1. Automating those mundane tasks that drain our energy and time 2. Getting to know our team members’ needs and preferences (because let’s face it, we’re not mind readers) 3. Providing personalized support and development opportunities (because one size definitely does NOT fit all) 4. Creating a workplace culture where everyone feels included and valued (because diversity isn’t just a buzzword, folks!) By letting AI handle some of the repetitive stuff, we can free up more time and energy for what really matters - building genuine connections with our colleagues, supporting their growth, and fostering a positive work environment. So, if you’re curious about how AI can help you prioritize people over tasks, check out my latest blog post (link in bio) for some practical tips and real-life examples. Now, I want to hear from you! How do you plan to use AI to build stronger relationships at work? Share your ideas in the comments below and let’s start a conversation! #AI #WorkRelationships #PeopleFirst #InclusiveLeadership #SmartWork #RecoveringWorkaholic

What do leaders do when the act of being a leader is traumatic? Leaders navigate enormously challenging situations, including moral dilemmas that force the leader to choose between the organization’s welfare and that of individual staff; poor behaviors such as sabotaging and gaslighting; no-win situations, and bias, discrimination, and exclusion. In this episode, Clinical Psychologist Jennifer Wisdom discusses the nature of distressing experiences leaders face in the workplace, the strategies they use to work through these distressing experiences, and recommendations for how to improve workspaces to decrease the likelihood of traumatic experiences occurring. She will emphasize the role of legacy institutional structures, interpersonal relationships, power dynamics, and betrayal of trust in contributing to leaders’ experiences of trauma. She will conclude with ways leaders can identify and address trauma. Jennifer Wisdom PhD MPH ABPP, is a licensed clinical psychologist and board-certified organizational psychologist. She is principal of Wisdom Consulting, Senior Organization Development Psychologist in the Veterans Health Administration National Center for Organization Development, and Affiliated Professor at the Oregon Health and Science University. She has published and taught extensively on leadership and public health, including authoring the Millennials’ Guides series. She has a PhD in Clinical Psychology and a Master's of Public Health in Biostatistics and Epidemiology. 'Expectations are unrealistic right now, especially for those people who are good at leading'. This week on our informal leadership learning club - 'Just One Learning Bite', I'm sharing an episode of the Re:Thinking Podcast, hosted by Adam Grant. Title: 'Brené Brown and Simon Sinek on the leadership skills we need to build Host: Adam Grant Description: 'Brené Brown and Simon Sinek are two of the world's most influential thought leaders. They’ve shared their insights on the power of vulnerability and purpose in viral TED talks, hit podcasts, and bestselling books. Adam invites Brené and Simon to a lively discussion about the most important skills for leaders to build -- and the most vital steps for organizations to put people first. Together, they also field audience questions on earning trust, giving upward feedback, and creating better leadership opportunities for the next generation.' Link in Bio Why I loved this episode: - it talks about psychological courage, instead of psychological safety - it talks about the difference between service and martyrdom - it raises the point that 'when I'm trying to help everybody' that might be 'code for trying to control everything'; - it builds on the concept of 'pathological altruism' = people who become white knights are insecure and want to prove their worth and validate themselves - it raises the question of whether 'helpfulness' really is the best antitode to 'helplessness' - it makes the point that 'leadership is teamwork and trust' - it asks a very important question: 'what's driving the over work?' - it talks about the reality that 'expectations are unrealistic right now, especially for those people who are good at leading' (I resonated with this SO much, as I get to coach some pretty amazing leaders who feel that pressure to the bone!) - it reinforces the idea that the 'best leaders are coaches' and that 'great leaders consider themselves students in leadership, not experts in it.' Listen in, curious to know what resonated most with you. Lead Different, no matter your title! What's a leadership bite you'd like to share?

Spending time in meditation is something I always wanted to be good at. I had learned about it, talked about it, and tried to engage in it, but I found it hard to still my mind Quite recently, I took a different approach, and instead of romantisizing the idea and wishing I could be better, I took a closer look at the reasons I found it hard to just get it done. This helped me create practices that made it easier for me to spend longer time, with a focused mind in meditation. It also showed me simple proven ways to repeat the results I got the first time. In building relationships, a lot of people are like the version of me who just hoped she could meditate. Whether it's your romantic relationship, friendships, professional relationships, or relationship with family, you need structure to maintain the connection that a busy life threatens. Stop nursing guilt and wishing you had more time. Create structure around nurturing the relationships in your life. This will help you feel understood, nourished emotionally, and supported as you go about doing the big things you've been called to do. There was a time in my life when I was uncovering ways to be more productive. My productivity journey morphed into an emotional wellness journey when I realized how terrifying it was for me to say “no”. I had to stop and find out why, and doing this not only helped me navigate my inability to say “no”, but also showed me how to build quality connections in my relationships. We would all have to say “no” at some point. This is because it helps you handle expectations in ALL your relationships, especially as a high performing individual, with a lot of tasks to handle. Managing expectations will free you from the pressure to be someone you're not at your core as you show up in your relationships. Doing this will also help you connect with yourself in a healthy way so that you can bring your best self to the relationships in your life. Where do you find it hardest to say “no”? Or romantic relationships? . . #intentional #healthyrelationship #workrelationships #conversations #friendship #healthyboundaries #productivityhabits #networking #growth

When we’re struggling to work with a difficult colleague, it’s good to remind ourselves that we may be contributing to the dynamic. Avoid escalating conflicts by reframing your approach - don't fight fire with fire. Reflect on how your actions might be making things worse. 🔥 Often, with some small shifts in behavior or mindset, we can lessen the friction. These shifts require minimal effort and don’t cost us much, but can have a big impact on our relationship and stress levels. – Lesson learned from Amy Gallo, author of How to Work with Anyone (Even Difficult People) #WorkRelationships #Communication #Collaboration

Ever played the fool to see how far someone will go with their lies? It’s a tough game, one where you tread the line, watching the tales grow just to see if honesty ever takes the stage. Why do we do it? Maybe it’s because somewhere inside, we hope we’re wrong about them. Maybe it’s a test to see if they’ll come clean. Playing dumb might seem like losing self-respect, but it’s really about protecting it. It’s about not jumping to conclusions, giving them a chance to be truthful. But remember, recognizing deception is the first step in respecting yourself enough to say, “I deserve better.” Always stand for truth in your relationships. My take when we say... "Earning and working while sleeping".😎 This happened to me during my first year of working as Real Estate agent. After property viewings and meeting clients for the day, I remember in my sleep and in my dream that I am working and talking to my clients still. After 10 years of doing this, it sometimes happen/occur still in my sleep where I kept thinking my clients liked the houses we viewed and then wondering which ones will they choose. Seriously! 😎 Anyone can relate to this? Remember those glorious days @kalai_cruz #agentslife #10yearsandcounting #selfie #workrelationships #workworkwork #contentoftheday #realestate

Learning how to build relationships has made my life better in all areas of life. A good or bad day is usually based on the relationships you have around you. It has taught me who to work with and who not to work with. Who’s looking to actually help people and make a difference and who is an evil manipulator. People like working with or having relationships with people they know, like, and trust. Knowing that it has been a goal of mine with everyone I meet. The subject that has helped me the most in building relationships is learning how to love everyone correctly. Learn how to build relationships by learning how to love and it will change your life. 🥷🏼❤️ #relationships #love #lovelanguages #workrelationships #peopleskills #logansquare #chicago

There was plenty of catching up, getting to know each other and working alongside new contacts. We really felt a sense of community. Happy hump day. I tried to finish this really short 🇹🇭 bl Bake me, please. It's only 6 episodes (duration 1 hour) and on short special. So the main story first. A Young poor man Peach/Pete is warm and hard working. He becomes a Trainee at the mysterious Legend Chin/Shin (Don't know why the names are spelled differently.) Chin has a cold, hard, arrogant and rarely smiles. The two are drawn to each other but someone has to meddle and be extremely immature. #ohmthitiwat is the cold baker has something for cakes. I think there is something about cakes in #untillwemeetagain . #guidekantapon is the smiling and patience guy with the sweetest and clever grandmother. The baking crew are played by #poomphuripan (can't wait to see him in #mystandin ), #atomnathaphop #pramenopanut . Besides the love story, it is also about when your pride and dreams aren't met but you feel like your friends' are. Yes there is a sweet hint of 18+ . It's a sweet little snack of a show. However Im not sure if it's the pacing or the story telling that makes me slightly bored at times. It's has a few good moments. 7.5/10 The special episode is honestly really immature and kinda dumb. Spoiler Please don't treat your partner that way - if it's only was for a surprise but it's not and you could make a surprise without the show. 6/10 Random #thaibl #thaidrama #thaidessert #ohmfluke #ohmguide #shinpeach #happyhumpday🐫 #gayromance #workrelationships #lgbtq #mystandintheseries #uppoompat #loveislove #lovelywritertheseries #slowburnromance #hefellfirstbuthefellharder #gagaoolala #betweenustheseries #deanparm #winteam #bounprem (can't wait for #revamptheundeadstory )

Think of work relationships as constructing a sturdy foundation for a skyscraper. 🏢. Lay each brick of communication with active listening. Architect meaningful interactions through strategic questioning. Construct partnerships as solid support beams, reinforcing success. Engage with teams as skilled craftsmen, each role vital to the structure. Uphold a culture of respect and professionalism as the mortar binding it all together. One thing you must consider before trying to influence your staff, colleagues, or board members: This needs to be clear before you go into any tough-love, accountability conversation, or committee meeting to avoid: -defensiveness -fake compliance -head-butting -ego-warring -pretend buy-in To avoid these ☝️ in your leadership communication, begin with this critical component: 🔥 What’s our shared purpose? 🔥 Examples: 💥 “We both want the party to be a huge success to delight the membership.” 💥 “We all want to hit our numbers this quarter so we can receive our bonus.” 💥 “We both want to get this taken care of by 5pm so we can get home to have dinner with our families.” 💥 “Just like you, I want you to feel proud when golfing our course with your guests.” And the default shared purpose you can keep in your back pocket for staff feedback: 💥 “We both want you to be successful here.” Communicating from shared purpose keeps disengagement, overwork, and stalemates at bay. What shared purposes do you speak to regularly with your team or members/clients? #highEQleader #Leadership #leadershipcommunication #teamworkgoals #sharedpurpose #leadershiptips #teamengagement #workculture #effectivecommunication #accountability #teamcollaboration #leadershipdevelopment #motivation #conflictresolution #teambuilding #workrelationships #emotionalintelligence
