You may have gotten hurt with the exercise, but maybe the dose was more than your body could handle at that time. Middle distance run fell on Sunday. First day of Daylight Savings time. And Im not mad about it. My brain was telling me it was 9 when I started but the clock said 10. And by the end my brain and the clock seemed to have synchronized! My speed work without my treadmill mill has been sporadic, spontaneous and somewhat lackluster! So today another spontaneous speed session happened in the middle of the 8 milers. After 4 easy miles, I had 1 mile at 10k pace, followed by a 5k pace mile and then another 10k pace mile. 1 mile cool down. That 5k pace is a hard one for me to hold outside but I felt strong today. Should hear this week from @onepeloton when my Tread+ will be delivered. I cannot wait to get back to a regular schedule for speed work. I do think this training block with lots more easy miles hasn’t hurt my paces at all though! It’s been a while since I posted something a i wanted to show you my #musclepants I started a fat loss phase in the middle of December and it’s working. I don’t think I need to lose weight, but I want to change my #bodycomposition where #musclemass increases and #bodyfat decreases . ⭐️⭐️Patient Highlight⭐️⭐️ Mike came into the clinic after continuing to run through some pretty severe back and leg pain that he hoped would go away. I wish I had a video of the way he walked into the clinic the first day, dragging his leg behind him with some pretty terrible nerve pain. He couldn’t sit down at all for work, let alone run. He underwent a back surgery last year and nearly one year later ran a marathon. He didn’t get there by chance. He has put in SO much time and effort into strength training and his movement patterns. He will downplay this all day long, but it’s truly an impressive feat. “Shortly after surgery I was approved to resume PT and I began my rehab journey. Before my back injury I was active. I enjoyed working in the yard, going to the gym, and running marathons. Knowing the activity level I wanted to return to, Kristin created a plan to get me back on my feet. I threw her a curve ball in the spring when I told her that I signed up for a fall marathon. At that point I wasn’t running at all, just walking and very light weight floor exercises. With the marathon as my target Kristin worked with me to create a strengthening program, coupled with my running program, to set me up for success. She gave me the knowledge to understand the difference between development pains, which are good, and hurtful pains, which just means we need to take a step back before proceeding forward. Fast forward six months, I completed the Marine Corps Marathon, nearly setting a PR. I truly would not have been this successful without her help. ‘Hybrid athlete’ ‘Hybrid training programme’ ‘Hybrid plan’ I am seeing this a lot on social media and I have had a couple of my clients asking me if they should / could follow a hybrid plan. Only to realise once I have explained it to them - that they already are! Hybrid training is in reality, how everyone should be training. It is a combination of cardio and resistance training. And any good plan should include both. We need both forms of training in order to reap all of the benefits, to prevent injury and illness further down the line and to live a healthy life way into our more mature years. As we know, research shows cardio training lowers the risk of developing diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, stroke and heart disease. We know it increases blood flow around the body, ensuring our vascular system remains healthy and that it strengthens tendons and ligaments through impact. Strength training also has many benefits including increasing our bone density, increasing our metabolism and increasing muscle size which helps achieve the ‘toned’ look so many people want! And it can enable us to live an independent life - being able to carry things / lift things / move things without seeking help should not be underestimated, especially as we get older! Both forms of exercise definitely help with elevating mood too and research shows any form of exercise will have positive mental health benefits. One form of training is not superior to the other. We need to do both! So, if your training is heavily focused one way - try and include some of the other. I am directing this at runners / endurance athletes (because I used to be one and did minimal strength training) that including some weights in your programme will enable you to be more efficient, prevent injury and will improve your performance so don’t shy away from including some of this type of training into your weekly routine. And if you need some advice on what exercises you could start with - then drop me a message!

Rückblick Endurance Test Masters World Championship Vancouver : Erstaunlich was so ein Wettkampf mit einem macht. Während mein Teampartner es schafft sich zu 100% zu fokussieren, bin ich nach wie vor flatterig wie ein Schmetterling . 🦋🦋 Das hat natürlich dann auch bei dem Endurance Test dazu geführt, dass ich am Ende Zeit und Kraft verloren habe wegen eines minimalen Fehlers mit großer Auswirkung !!! An der Wende angekommen , habe ich vergessen das Hütchen umzuwerfen, war auf dem Rückweg und musste nochmal umdrehen um den Umwurf nachträglich durchzuführen. Durch diese Aktion wurde dann am Ende Luft und Zeit dünn so dass ich nicht weiterlaufen konnte. Sehr ärgerlich, denn bis zu jenem Zeitpunkt fühlte es sich noch richtig gut an und ich hätte noch deutlich mehr geschafft . 😩 Aber da hilft kein Jammern !!!!! Nice quick "track" workout with my brother in law today. Initially planned to go to the athletic stadium in Roodepoort to do a speed workout, but ended up doing it in their neighborhood. Kept the format the same and just changed out the 400m track with a 650m block of houses. Workout consisted of: Warm-up 1600m run at 5:30-5:45 min/km 3 min rest 1200m run at 5:15-5:30 min/km 2 min rest 800m run at 5:00-5:15 min/km 1 min rest 400m at 4:45-5:00 min/km Managed to stick fairly accurately to our paces (see image 2). Now for some easy runs during the week. I get why you might think you should avoid working out when you're in pain. I was there once… I stopped working out for nearly three years in my early twenties because I thought it would damage my back. I thought resting was the key to overcoming my pain. I thought I needed to avoid pain with anything. I thought I had to stay away from heavy lifting. I thought I needed to give my body a lot of time to "heal". If resting and avoiding pain were the answer for my chronic pain, wouldn't I have recovered after all that? The reality is, none of that worked. I was still in pain, I still felt weak. I lost my identity as a lifter and athlete. I became depressed. Only when I opened my mind to working out again and living life WITH some pain is when I began to recover.  I started slow, just walking more, and very light lifting. I began doing activities I enjoyed again.  Fast forward nearly a decade since then, I'm now able to do everything I want. You have a choice to make if you're in chronic pain: 1)Retreat from life and stay in pain. 2)Engage in life and start moving again. Which would you rather do? @kyootbikes has all the rack mounts for a front or rear basket. Smaller wheels lower your center of gravity. The lower you pack things down on your bike the less it effects steering and handling. Holy smokes what a race. There was thunder, lightning, torrential downpours, flooding in the streets. And it was still amazing! I had the best time and can’t say enough about how well organized and well run @runflyingpig races have been. I’ll definitely be back!
