About 3 weeks after my stroke 03/16/2024 I lost about 10 lb of muscle mass as I was bedridden for the first 10 days and was not able to walk due to the severe brain damage suffered from 2 strokes in 2 days so I had zero coordination and no balance for about the first 4 weeks after the stroke...... This morning I ran the 10km route with the @summiting700 trail race test run. Basically, a group of people signed up and came together to run the route of the race happening in July, as a training run. It was a chill time, no racing, but the route is so fun. We were led by Olympian and elite runner @reidcoolsaet & Salomon representative extraordinaire @caitfoisy on a beautiful day. So cool of Reid to share his experiences and training tips with us: very cool, humble guy for all of the accomplishments he has had in running. For me this run was a bit of a test to see how I'd feel on a mountain-type course: overall I felt great! Exactly 7 years ago today, I landed in Hong Kong (where I lived at the time) on a flight from Amsterdam with a tender, aching left ache and feeling incredibly dizzy. Little did I know at the time, I had developed DVT (deep vein thrombosis) in my left calf resulting in several blood clots that went to my hip and ultimately both lungs leading to PE (pulmonary embolism). SWIPE for my story. According to the CDC, up to 100k Americans die from blood clots each year - that’s one person every 6 minutes. I was hospitalized for nearly two weeks and blood thinning injections have been a regular part of my life ever since. Ultimately, doctors suspect my clots were caused by the combination of birth control pills and a long haul flight. Subsequently, ensuring I had a healthy pregnancy was key and I was classified as high risk due to a few factors, but primarily my history of DVT/PE. Daily injections and frequent monitoring were not easy, but absolutely necessary for both of us to survive. If left untreated, the mortality rate for PE can be as high as 30%. I am extremely blessed to be alive and grateful that I listened to my body and sought medical treatment immediately. Organizations such as @stoptheclot serve to raise awareness and share the stories of survivors. I will ALWAYS share my story in hopes of saving even one person. I sit in gratitude in this 7th year thanking God for life and so overjoyed to have a healthy (almost!) 2 year old in my arms. Know the signs. Trust your body. No, this isn't from an IVF cycle but do you know what it could be? I have said it on many of our podcasts that pregnancy is a ‘clotty’ state. This is because there is increased clotting factors and a reduction in natural anticoagulants. Having the physical pressure of the growing uterus can also slow blood flow, particularly in the legs. Some people also have pre-existing factors that make a pregnancy more prone to clotting which is often treated with anti-coagulation medication. Mostly Clexane (enoxaparin) daily injections are used. This week’s podcast we talked to Haylea about her history of stroke and how she needed to be anticoagulated throughout her pregnancy with Clexane. Recap from the last 5.5 days On Friday I developed very severe chest pain w/ shortness of breath and left arm pain I also had severe calf pain that would come and go. I almost felt like I was having a heart attack. I called my doctors office and they strongly urged me to go to the emergency department. I wanted to go home very bad but the doctor was quite certain I had another pulmonary embolism and was not comfortable sending me home AT ALL. I was supposed to get a VQ scan the following day at a different hospital but was told if my pain or breathing or anything got worse to go straight to that hospital which unfortunately at 4am the next morning I had to wake up my mom as I was having a lot more pain and trouble breathing and my heart rate was in the 170’s. So we rushed to the emergency department, where I was kept comfortable and monitored until we could do the scan and determine if I could go home and had no clot.. which was not the case. I ended up with 3 unprovoked clots in my lungs. I was then admitted until this morning when my oxygen seemed stable at 95-97, systolic BP was in the 90s but that’s believed to because of the extra pressure on the weaker side of my heart. So thankful to be home with my momma and puppers (I cried a lot about missing my babies) And again thank you for all the love and support 💞

Race pics from Saturday morning from near the top of the biggest climb on the course: Pic 1: smiling on the first lap; Pic 2: Climbing the last big hill with the finish line at the top, so I'm focusing on getting the job done. I was a little surprised to see how my hill climbing reliably pulled me past other runners throughout the race. I took this picture May 21, 2024, the day the hematologist told me I had graduated and they no longer have to see me. 35 and 3 months pregnant….I was diagnosed with a blood clot behind my left knee. I’m forever grateful for my Obgyn who made me go to get a Doppler immediately that day. As I brushed off something so serious. She saved me and my daughter’s life. 9 months of blood thinners (the sides of my stomach were so bruised from sticking myself), two iron transfusions….I am finally back to me. AND IT FEELS SO DAMN GOOD! I’ve always had really bad anxiety going to the West Cancer Center to see my doctor. As I clapped hearing so many ring that bell. I’m thankful for my mom who sat at every appointment with me. She missed one appt (and it wasn’t by choice) but I’m thankful for my person who made sure I didn’t go alone. I’m thankful for the staff who were always so friendly and welcoming. I’m thankful for the people who kept me uplifted when they didn’t even know what I was dealing with. Now 38, I’m thankful God kept his hand on me through it all! I’m truly blessed! . He’s home. Huge shout out to Penn Highlands Mon Valley Hospital ER and Progressive Care Unit. They get an AAA+ for patient care from me. @daryllmoisey has a long history with that hospital and a few of the drs there because they cared for his wife regularly throughout her health struggles. He trusts them and respects them. I was disappointed to see the gift shop closed for remodeling. I enjoy the sandwiches there when I have gone there for testing. Daryl ate well and really had a great team of women in PCU. I thank them for never talking down to me. Never being presumptuous. Never being arrogant. They were kind, caring and intelligent. Grateful for their smiles and pleasant tone to their voices. Jefferson Hospital could take a few lessons from them. (Did I type that out loud?!?! 🤭) It’s such a nice size hospital rather than AGH downtown where you used to go in, take an elevator, get off, walk a 1/2 mile, get on another elevator, go to the floor, get off, find the unit, then find the room and hope to God someone has time to talk to you. It’s crazy. And FREE PARKING!!! Woohoo! I didn’t get a $3 service fee for using a random atm machine not associated with our bank to buy a token because I always forgot to get cash on the way in. And vending machines that take a tap debit card. Geez thank you. 7 hours in the ER made my stress eating triggered!!!! And the vending machine had protein! Salami sticks & peanuts. This diabetic was grateful because crackers, cereal and chips spike my sugar like a rocket. It just goes straight up. 📈on my Liebre 3. They set my alarms off in less than 10 minutes. That’s Daryl’s main diet, everything I can’t eat without insulin.
