It was a morning drive when all the vehicles headed towards Jamunbodi at the earliest possible. Tigress T-114, Roma with her two cubs were seen on the tarmac road with a Sambar kill in the previous evening there. We found the tigers in the morning even before the sunlight became bright. We were amazed to see how three tigers were sitting in a small distance from each other with their big chunks of meat from the carcass and having peacefully. Suddenly we spotted a Crested hawk eagle perched on a tree nearby, quite close above the tigers where they were eating. We started discussing that once the tigers will leave after this meal, the eagle might look for its share. But the Eagle has something different in its mind. The moment one of the tiger cubs became a little incautious while handling the food, surprisingly the Crested hawk eagle dived and snatched a little piece of Sambar meat from the tiger cub. It perched on a tree a little high up away from the tigers and started eating there. There are hundreds of species of birds that cross the Himalayas during autumn/winter period and spread across the length and breadth of the country. During early spring, birds start moving northwards towards their breeding grounds in the high Himalayas or in the regions across. This phenomenon is known as Spring Bird Migration and continues through summer months with some species migrating later than others. Corbett Tiger Reserve is known as a birder’s paradise with over 550 species of birds found in the protected area. There are many migrant species that are known to occur in the area. During spring and early summer months, the area attracts large number of birds that are on their way north. The numbers within the species also go up dramatically. These birds stopover in the foothills of Himalayas to feed and gain body weight and strength to take up the mighty leap across the largest mountains in the world. Jim’s Jungle Retreat celebrates World Migratory Bird Day and wishes that this spectacle of nature continues to unfold forever. #WorldMigratoryBirdDay #BirdConservation #FlyFree #ProtectBirds #MigratoryBirds #BirdMigration #WingsOfChange #NatureLovers #EcoWarriors #BiodiversityMatters #FlywayByway #FeatheredFriends #SkyJourneys #AvianAdventures #GlobalFlyers

Let's come together to celebrate World Migratory Bird Day 2024! This year, we're shining a spotlight on the important role of insects in bird migration. 🦜🐞🦋 Did you know that insects are vital energy sources for many bird species and directly affect their migration timing, duration, and success? But these crucial insect populations are under threat due to intensive agriculture, urban development, light pollution, and pesticide use, which also puts our birds at risk. Birds do us a great favour by playing key roles in pollination and pest control. But, when insect populations dwindle, these ecosystem functions are disrupted. That's why the 2024 World Migratory Bird Day campaign is all about proactive conservation measures. One fun and impactful way we all can make a difference, no matter where we are or what we do, is by rolling out our very own Nature Blocks! These little 'blocks' of nature could be pots, pollinator gardens, insect hotels, or lizard lounges - small steps to restore nature in our cities and create essential habitats for a thriving ecosystem. By creating our own Nature Blocks, we can transform our homes and gardens into wildlife refuges. It's a fun and rewarding way to actively participate in nature restoration. So, let's roll up our sleeves and do our bit for nature! Download the CVA app and get started today! 🎉💚 . . . Watch where you step. There's an entire world below you. 🌲🐌 Embracing Diversity: Celebrating the Unsung Heroes of the Forest 🐌🌲 Let's talk about snails – yes, those tiny, unassuming creatures that often go unnoticed amidst the grandeur of towering trees in the Pacific Northwest rainforests. While they may seem insignificant at first glance, their presence speaks volumes about the intricate tapestry of life that thrives within these lush ecosystems. In these verdant realms, snails play a vital role in maintaining the delicate balance of nature. As herbivores, they munch away on decaying plant matter, recycling nutrients back into the soil and enriching it for new growth. But their contributions extend beyond mere composting duties. Recent studies have shed light on the profound impact snails have on forest health. Their voracious appetite for fungi helps regulate fungal populations, preventing outbreaks that could otherwise devastate tree communities. Moreover, snails serve as an essential food source for a myriad of forest inhabitants, from birds to small mammals, forming intricate food webs that sustain life in these biodiverse habitats. In essence, the diversity of healthy forests is intricately linked to the presence of snails and other seemingly inconspicuous organisms. By fostering a deeper appreciation for these tiny marvels, we gain a richer understanding of the interconnectedness of all living things and the importance of preserving the intricate balance of our natural world. So let's celebrate the snails – the unsung heroes of the forest – and continue to cherish and protect the diverse ecosystems they call home. 🌿✨ #ForestLife #BiodiversityMatters #PacificNorthwestPride 🌲🐌

What is the discussion on bio-imperialism vs. biodiversity? How can transnational and grassroots movement solidarities make a difference? Excerpts from the article Bio-imperialism vs. Bio-diversity: "The current socio-political context of Mexico’s demand of autonomy based on being a center of diversity and cultural heritage is unique because food sovereignty is the driving force behind the political sovereignty of the people. This reiterates that every kind of autonomy is rooted in food and seed. ....It is in this coming together of different movements and voices united in their goal of food and seed sovereignty that these events in Mexico led to the emergence of an interconnected strength and resistance. Where the nurturing of solidarity and a reminder of a common resistance despite varied contexts, echoed and re-iterated that together, we are all more than the sum of the parts. Building relationships and connections, across organizations, across movements and beyond countries is necessary for effectively resisting this GMO imperialism. This interconnected strength is what we have to tap into, to continue our struggle in defense of life, diversity and freedom." The Great Plains toad truly lives a life of leisure. A solitary, burrowing species, these toads will spend around seven to nine months of the year in a state of dormancy and torpor, called estivation. When fully awake, they may still spend up to six days inside their burrow without moving! Most activity happens at night during the dry season, but this toad's movement is also triggered by heavy rainfall and the start of the breeding season. #Wildlife #Marine #Ocean #Life #WildAnimals #WildlifeonEarth #WildlifeCare #SaveWildlife #ProtectWildlife #NourishWildlife #WildlifeConservation #EndangeredSpecies #ConservationEfforts #SavingSpecies #ProtectOurWildlife #ConservationHeroes #BiodiversityMatters #WildlifeRescue #WoodlandConservation #NaturePreservation #EndangeredAnimals #HabitatRestoration #WildlifeReintroduction #WildlifeRehabilitation #NatureConservation #WildlifeAdvocacy #PreservingOurEcosystems #TogetherForWildlife

Celebrating Biodiversity for a Thriving Planet Behold the intricate tapestry of life in our captivating illustration! From the depths of the ocean to the lush forests above, biodiversity surrounds us in its vibrant forms. At Gateway Green, we're passionate about preserving this diversity for the sake of our planet's health and resilience. Biodiversity is crucial for Earth's survival. Each species, whether on land or underwater, plays a unique role in maintaining ecosystem balance. Imagine a tree disappearing from a forest—this seemingly small loss can trigger a cascade of effects, disrupting the entire ecosystem. Here's why biodiversity matters: Ecosystem Stability: Different species interact in complex ways to maintain stability. Loss of key species can lead to imbalances, affecting food webs and natural processes. Pollination and Food Production: Many plants rely on specific animals for pollination or seed dispersal. Without these interactions, agricultural productivity declines. Medicinal Resources: Numerous medicines are derived from plants and animals. Losing species means losing potential cures for diseases. Climate Regulation: Forests and oceans absorb carbon dioxide, mitigating climate change. Biodiverse ecosystems are more resilient to environmental shifts. Preserving biodiversity is not just about saving individual species—it's about safeguarding the intricate web of life that sustains us all. Join us at Gateway Green in celebrating and supporting biodiversity for a healthier, more vibrant planet. #GatewayGreen #BiodiversityMatters #EcoDiversity #NatureIsKey #SaveOurSpecies #ProtectOurPlanet #EcosystemBalance #ConservationEfforts #WildlifeConservation #PreserveLife #ClimateResilience #SpeciesProtection #EarthFirst #NatureInspired #BiodiversityConservation #EcoEducation #EnvironmentalAwareness #SustainableFuture #SupportBiodiversity #GreenPlanet #NatureConservation #EcoResponsibility #LifeOnEarth #ProtectNature #EcoSystemHealth #SustainabilityGoals #ConservationEducation #TogetherForNature

Did you know that the Great White Trillium is Ohio's State Wildflower? 🌼 This woodland beauty, found in all counties of Ohio, earned its prestigious title in 1986. However, it's important to tread lightly around these delicate blooms – picking them at their peak could jeopardize their survival by hindering their ability to gather resources. In my home state of Nevada, Sagebrush reigns as the State Wildflower. 🌿 This resilient plant, Artemisia tridentata, plays a vital role in Nevada's arid ecosystem, thriving in sandy soils that struggle to retain water. And let's not forget our neighbors in Kentucky, where Goldenrod proudly holds the title of State Flower! 🌻 With over 30 native species, Goldenrod isn't just a pretty face – it's also been used in teas for its medicinal properties, aiding in kidney stone prevention and urinary tract health. Let's celebrate the diverse flora that adds beauty and vitality to our states! 🌸 #StateWildflowers #FloralPride #SupportWildflowers #BiodiversityMatters

A very Tasmanian story. It has been called ‘the lemonade of all apples.’ The finely balanced sweet/acidic flavours are instantly refreshing, the mouthfeel has a definite ‘lemonade zing’ and it’s also ‘just right take-away size’ for a quick, healthy snack. It was all these features that made the Geeveston Fanny famous as the perfect ‘school lunchbox apple’ in the satchels of Tasmanian schoolchildren for many decades. In 1870 the original tree was one of six imported by a storekeeper in Shipwright's Point near Huonville, Tasmania (Australia) and sold to James Evans who planted them in his 18-acre orchard Fernery in 1870. All six thrived, but one of them stood out and was named Susan's Pride after his wife. In 1908, he sold some scions from this tree to William Ebenezer Ashlin who renamed the variety in honour of his own wife, Fanny (née Geeves). Ashlin devoted four acres of his orchard to the variety. The gamble paid off, with large quantities of the Geeveston Fanny being a regular export for the next sixty years. As Nik Magnus from Woodbridge FruitTrees said on ABC radio last Sunday, it is a story where behind every good pomologist, there is of course, a woman. In 1970, Tasmania exported 127,000 boxes of Geeveston Fanny‘s to Europe, but only a few years later the thriving export industry was on its knees. In 1973 Tasmania’s main export market disappeared overnight when England joined the Common Market. Apples were left to rot on the trees and the government came up with the Tree Pull Scheme to pay orchardists to bulldoze their trees. Many of those affected were tending orchards that had been in their families for generations. The Geeveston Fanny was just one casualty. Today they are hard to find, but if you can find one, you won’t be disappointed. The flesh is white, crisp, sweet and aromatic; good for eating, pies and cider. The ABC Radio interview makes excellent listening where Nik explains some of the 250 varieties his family grows at Woodbridge. A very different kind of beauty than the Golden Delicious. This apple is the Belle de Boskoop, discovered around 1856 in Boskoop, a town in the province of South Holland. Boskoop has been an apple growing region since the 1400s, and this apple is called the Belle for an obvious reason. Visually, this is one of the most striking apples we have received from Brady’s Lookout. A deep yellow skin with a rich crimson flush where the sunlight has kissed it - and a dash of russet here and there just to add visual interest so the entire composition looks just like a John Constable painting. Its striking looks herald its flavour- a high acid content makes for a brilliant cider, single variety or blend, and for those who like it strong, it also makes for great eating. Generally Boskoop varieties can contain over four times the Vitamin C of Granny Smith or Golden Delicious. It is also a variety that actually tastes better after some time in storage, and even prior to the invention of energy-intensive refrigeration, was known, in ideal storage conditions to last six months without loss of quality. But for all its brilliance, the Belle never rose to international fame. In our global food system where 'perfect beauty' (as defined by the marketing and logistics bods) and absolute consistency are the main priorities, the Belle de Boskoop is a total no-show. Every Belle on the tree can be a different size and shape. #bradyslookoutcider#harvestmarketlaunceston#fruitgrowerstasmania#eatwelltasmania#tascidertrail#biodiversity#biodiversitymatters

I awarded myself a ten minute tea ☕break in the garden yesterday and was amazed at the amount of biodiversity on a large clump of Centaurea montana aka Perennial Cornflower close by...a 14 spot Ladybird, a White-Tailed Bumblebee and a Green Shield bug ( actually there were 4 other shield bugs engaged in adult activity ..but it seemed such an invasion of privacy to photograph them!! 🙈 ...It was all happening...the Boss had to drag me back to work!!😮 #biodiversity #biodiversitymatters #gardening #gardeninglife #biodiversityconservation #centaurea #perennial #cornflower #bumblebee #ladybird #shieldbug #insects #insectphotography

"Den globale ulikhetskrisa, flyktningekrisa, migrasjonskrisa, overforbrukskrisa, demokratikrisa og energi og matkrisa henger alle sammen med det kapitalistiske vekstparadigmet som betrakter naturen som menneskets frie ressurs. We're passionate about helping farmers create biodiverse landscapes that not only improve productivity but also provide vital habitat for native wildlife. Biodiverse farms are more resilient and sustainable, as they mimic natural ecosystems and provide a variety of habitats for wildlife. By incorporating native plants into your farm landscape, you create food and shelter for birds, insects, and small mammals, which in turn contribute to pest control, pollination, and soil health. The right species selection can enhance the overall ecosystem balance and promote a healthy, thriving farm environment. #BiodiversityOnTheFarm #SustainableFarming #WildlifeHabitat #NativePlants #FarmEcosystem #ResilientFarms #BiodiversityMatters #FarmersForNature #HealthyLandscapes #FarmBiodiversity

With its perfect looks, this is another variety everyone knows. The Golden Delicious was a chance seedling, discovered growing on a hillside by a West Virginia farmer called Mullins, around 1890. While the tree was just doing its thing, the outside human world had exploded into chaos. The word 'salesman' had just entered the dictionary, and census reports indicate that at that time in the United States there were 53,500 “hucksters and peddlers.” Enter the Stark Brothers Nursery, a mail-order company for orchardists and fruit growers. Hearing about the tree and its remarkable fruit, and flushed with the recent success of their 'Red Delicious' variety, Stark Brothers bought the tree and the surrounding land for $5000, an enormous sum. They knew what they were doing. In the press they announced they had found the El Dorado they had been looking for. The golden apples on the tree on the Mullins farm exceeded all expectations and were 'so valuable' the new owners enclosed the tree in a protective mesh, wired to an alarm', in order to prevent unscrupulous competitors pilfering the fruit, or worse, stealing grafts. A photograph of the tree, inside its security fence remained on the cover of their catalogues well into the 1930s, all the while touting ''the record-breaking, money-making productivity of the 'Queen of All Yellow Apples'.'' The hyperbole paid off. The 'Golden Delicious' became a huge marketing success. By the 1970s, an estimated 24 million trees worldwide had been grafted with the golden cultivar. No good for cider but it can be a great eating apple. But if you really want the 'Golden Delicious' experience you need to seek them out when they are local and in season. When allowed to ripen to a golden-green colour on the tree the true flavour is revealed - exceptionally sweet and rich, almost like eating raw sugar cane. It's better for you, your community and the planet. And the original tree? It quietly kept doing its thing on that hillside every season, breathing its last some time around 1957. #bradyslookoutcider#harvestmarketlaunceston#fruitgrowerstasmania#eatwelltasmania#tascidertrail#biodiversity#biodiversitymatters

The Gems often Unnoticed In my last two months in Tadoba, the majority of the time my eyes concentrated on searching for the pugmarks or looking for the stripes. I definitely love Tigers, that's one kind of goosebump which never gets old. But introspecting the last two months of what I found, brought a smile to my face. My love for wildlife started with birds and never faded. Sometimes it prevails dominantly or silently my eyes find a way whenever they are around. Much to my happiness here also I did not miss a single chance to look back to a bird every time I got a chance. Though a lot of times the strong presence of a Tiger kept my eyes glued, but these little beauties never ever missed an opportunity to remind me where it all started from!! Here are a few of the beauties who were effortless in stealing my attention even when a Tiger was on its majestic best!!!
