Jumping into week 5 of BUILD! It’s amazing how much stronger I’m feeling. I did a goblet squat with a 50lbs dumbbell and deadlifts with 40lbs! Even my calf muscles are feeling it today, because I know I pushed myself. I also decided that while it’s been fun to switch it up and do walking incline intervals, I have been missing my running intervals. I like the feeling of getting faster and going farther distances. So I went back to the running program I was doing before and restarted it from the beginning. I’m looking forward to working on that and seeing how much better I can get throughout the summer. I felt great about my workouts this week! It was just a really re-affirming workout on multiple levels. - One: was seeing how I’m progressing in weights and building strength already. I did a sumo squat with a 40lbs dumbbell, deadlifts with 30lbs dumbbells for the first time ever, step ups with 20lbs weights, all the heaviest to date. I used 20lbs weights for the complex workout, only dropping down to 15’s for the last half of the last round. - Two: was reaffirming that a strength workout can also be a cardio workout! My heart rate was UP and I actually needed those full rests, which felt so good. Week 3 of @joinfitclub BUILD! Loving this progression style of training! I had to pick the workout that I had time for, as opposed to what was next on schedule, so I did Quads + Shoulders. I upped in most areas and used 30lbs for my squats, 15lbs for backward lunges, 15s for some shoulder moves and down to 10 when form was going. Happy Fri-YAY! Wrapping up week 2 of BUILD with @joinfitclub! I was definitely stiff after week one, but have felt better this week. Starting off week 2 of BUILD with @joinfitclub! Got in my treadmill intervals in on Monday evening, with a good stretch afterwards. Tuesday morning was a lower body day and this workout was so good! I didn’t do this one last week so I’m glad I got it in this week. Tried to go as heavy as Yami on most of the moves but did end up going down to a bit lighter than her (20lbs instead of 30, 15lbs instead of 20 etc.), knowing that my plan is to work my way up 💪🏻. Added in a quick little walk on Tuesday evening as well, just to get some steps in. End of week wrap up of BUILD with @joinfitclub! I was still pretty sore from my Tuesday workout, mostly lower body (those quads!) so I was happy to have a cardio and stretch day on Wed, where I did a light walk on my lunch break and then did a shorter version of my usual incline intervals in evening. Then had an arm day on Thursday morning. Chest and tris were the perfect combo and definitely areas where I want to get stronger. Friday morning was this cool full body complex workout. I don’t think I’ve ever done a workout set up like this before! It was tough and a bit fast faced, but I liked the challenge! I started with 10’s on this one, then moved up to 15s for the next two rounds and that was HARD! When it was over, I had more time available, so I decided to do two more rounds: one with 10’s again and with 15s but only doing 8 reps of each. Then I took a d little bit of extra time to stretch. Happy Week 1 of BUILD with @joinfitclub! I’m super excited for this program, even though the length of the workouts is going to be tricky for me. I usually have about 40-50 minutes to workout, but enjoy doing strength 3x per week and treadmill/stretching 2x per week. So with this program being longer workouts for 5 days, I’m going to have to cherry pick a bit in terms of what I works for my schedule. So Monday evening, I did my treadmill incline intervals and a stretch with @toneitup. Then on Tuesday morning, just based purely on time, I chose to do the Quads + Shoulders. Hump day check in! Got in my treadmill cardio intervals and a stretch on Monday evening, and then did the saved version Katrina’s Live on Tuesday morning. This was tough, but good! Pushed myself with heavy weights for a lot of the moves but actually found that I had to modify some near the end. The tricep pushups with leg raises were not happening for me, so I ended up doing just tricep pushups on my knees and the side plank with no weights. Funny how I need to challenge myself with deadlifts and shoulder presses, but pushups, smaller muscle groups and ab work seem to always be a work in progress :) I also had taken the day off of work on Tuesday, and decided to take advantage by adding in a mid-day walk. It was wet and cold out, so a treadmill walk did the trick! Happy Friday-YAY! Getting caught up on some workout check-ins! I’m still working away, but my new normal seems to include less time checking in. If I’m being honest, I probably put too much time and effort into making my post writeups perfect”, when I know that’s not what’s important. I followed it up with the Quick Stretch from the Barre Definition app. Thursday morning, my hamstrings were still super sore from Tuesday’s workout, so I decided to do the 30 Minute Arms & Abs Burn workout from Yami’s schedule and it turned out to be just what I needed! Friday morning, I got back into the full body grove with this quick 23 Minute Full Body Circuit. Feeling like a nice fresh start is just what I needed! With my first week of my new job under my belt, I felt good about getting a plan and schedule in order to get used to my new routine. My workout days will stay the same, but they just require more organization in the mornings to get out the door and have lunches packed for my kids/breakfast on the table etc. before I go. Monday evening, I did my usual treadmill intervals. I followed it up with some mobility/stretching during the Barre Definition app (trying it out for a bit to see if I like it). Tuesday morning, was Yami time! I did the Full Body Fire routine that was in the weekly schedule and it was definitely fire! I’m now posting this on Wed and I can tell you that I am sore all over. I used 15lbs weights for all moves and it was a good challenge. In the evening, I got a few steps in on the treadmill after a long day of sitting. Hoping everyone had a wonderful weekend! I totally forgot to post my Friday workout, so figured I may as well do it now, otherwise that sweetie selfie list goes to waste in my camera roll 😂 It was a 5am workout that started out with Totally Sculpted Advanced with @chevylaurent. I used mostly 10lbs weights throughout the workout since there were higher reps. Wednesday & Thursday checking for #TIUrefreshandreset ! Wednesday evening was more treadmill intervals. Ive been doing the max of 10 incline on my intervals, but have been playing around with the speed for both the incline and flatter sections. I’m getting a good grove where I get a great sweat on, while not pounding away doing sprints. I followed it up with the back bend mobility routine from Beyond Flexibility with @karindimitrovova . This felt SO good. This Thursday morning’s 5am workout started with Lower Body Strength HIIT with @_daliabarrios . This was spicy! I always try to push with heavier weights, but definitely had to just go body-weight only for those lunges with the jumps. So challenging for me! Plyo is not one of my strengths 😅 Ended it off with the Total Body Mobility - this was SO good! Short, sweet and necessary. I’m always so humbled by mobility work when I realize that I have lots of tight areas that need work. Monday evening was a treadmill incline interval workout, followed by some Beyond Flexibility mobility work with @karindimitrovova . I did the front splits routine - I love these stretches and want to get back into my mobility work! My hips and back/shoulders need it so much. Tuesday morning’s early workout started with Toned Body + Core, this was a nice full body workout! I could see myself pushing harder on this next time, now that I know the moves. I was going to do Allegra’s upper body workout afterwards, but decided against it at the last minute because I don’t really enjoy shadow boxing, if I’m being honest. So I decided to tack on the Booty Build + Tone 2.0. This was a good addition with even more deadlifts! Used my 20lbs weights where I could. Lastly, I had a little time in the evening after I put my daughter to bed, while my husband and son were at baseball, so I squeezed in a treadmill walk to get some steps in. Late Friday-YAY check-in for #TIUrefreshandreset ! Woke up at 5am and started off with Totally Toned with Chevy. This was my first time doing this workout since I missed the first week, and this was fun but tricky! Anytime I do strength training, I find 30 seconds is perfect timing for about 10 reps with a heavy weight. When it’s 60 seconds, I that means more reps and I need to use a lighter weight. So this was just about me trying to find the weight that was challenging but doable for the time frame. So I used mostly my 7 & 10 lbs weights here. My daughter woke up right as I was finishing my first workout and wanted in on the pic. Then I followed it up with Allegra’s Reset + Roll which was a nice, quick stretch and roll, which I loved! Week 2 wasn't great due to preparing for Freya's birthday party, having another party to go to and becoming slightly under the weather. Week 3 of FitClub Foundation! Let me start off by saying that I see all you TIU babes crushing week 1 of the challenge! I will join in next week as I really want to finish Yam’s program strong and with intention this week. Monday evening, I just got in some incline intervals on the treadmill and a stretch. Nothing too crazy, but it was nice to get some movement in! Last night, I had a terrible sleep for some reason. I woke up around 1am and tossed and turned for a good 1.5 hours! When my 5am alarm went off, and I looked at my watch telling me my sleep quality was 35%, I was like ooh heeelllll no! And back to sleep I went until 6am. I was then hoping I would squeeze a workout in during the day as a lunch break, but I ended up busy enough that it didn’t happen. So this evening after my daughter was in bed, I saw that I had 40 minutes until my husband and son got back from baseball practice. Enough time to work out?!?! I think so! So we got. It. Done. I’m so proud, I honestly thought my last week of this challenge was going downhill, but we are good! This workout was spicy! That third round got me, but I kept pushing the heavier weights. FitClub Check-In! I usually workout on Wed evenings, but my day went a little late, as we were celebrating my son’s birthday. My sciatic has been pinching me a little bit as well, so I just decided to do the Stretch + Roll routine from the Empower program since it was 20 minutes and doable in front of the TV after the kids were in bed. Then this morning I got up at 5am and did the 30 Minute Lower Body Power and then finished off the second round of 14 Minute Core Burn. I must say, that this lower body workout was exactly what I needed. I was a little worried about the sciatic pinching I’m having, but it’s almost like Yami knew this and mentioned multiple times in the workout to slow down, take your time and not rush anything. So I upped my weights, but did it slowly, concentrating on my form and core, and made it through, injury-free! ❤️ Loving this program. Monday & Tuesday Check-in! On Monday evening, I got some cardio in with my treadmill incline intervals. Then I did a quick stretch! I tried to do as much of Yami’s FitClub mobility routine, but only had time to make it halfway through, so I’ll plan to do the other half tomorrow :) This morning was the 30 Minute Full Body Strength Burn & Sculpt. This was so good! I loved the moves, they were all fun and had a little twist. Pushed myself with 20lbs for the DL’s and rows, 15s for the lunge/bicep curls and chest presses, but used 7lbs for the shoulder moves to make sure I didn’t hurt myself since my shoulders can be funny like that. After that, I did one round of the 14 Minute Core Burn, but again, will have to do the other half another day this week. Feeling strong! Oh, and today is my son’s 7th birthday, so I had McDonald’s and a cupcake. No regrets! Happy Fri-YAY! Finished up the full week’s worth of workouts for W1 of the FitClub Foundation program. This felt so good I forgot to set my alarm for 5am, like I normally do on a workout morning. I like to set it for that time so that I can finish my workout and be in the shower by 6am, in order to be ready for when my kids wake up (usually 6:30-ish) My husband’s alarm went off at 5:18am and I remember waking up and being like “huh? What? Oh well, missed my workout, guess I’ll go back to sleep.” But then as I laid there, my mind started ticking and was like, “well, you have a 23 minute and 7 minute workout to finish the week… and you technically have time to fit those in…. so I got my buns out of bed. Ended up finishing after 6am, and my getting-ready routine was a bit rushed, but I did it! Happy new year! First workout of the year and I’m doing the Foundation program in the FitClub app. I decided to double up my workouts from the schedule, in order to make sure I’m able to squeeze them all in. So today was the 35 Minute Full Body Strength and then did the 12 Minute No Repeat No Impact HIIT. I was definitely sweating! Used a single 20lbs weight for the squats/good mornings, two 15lbs for the sumo squat/deadlift, two 15lbs for the Arnold press/bicep curls/bent over rows. 20lbs for the side leg raises, 10lbs for the glute bridges, 15s for the chest press. Another workout in! Today I did a shorter treadmill incline interval workout and then followed it up with a move based strength workout with Kat. I don’t usually do both, I had some time to play with it a bit. I also don’t usually like the move based workouts, but decided that I wanted to try and finish the TV show I was watching and do some strength moves at the same time. FRI-YAY HOLIDAYS ARE HERE, LET’S GET IT!!!! We made it, friends! I’m officially off off work until after the New Year and I could not be more excited! I’ve been stressed out and my right eyelid has had this twitch in it for the past week and I think I list desperately need a break. This morning, I got up and decided to do a Yami workout in the TIU app! I hadn’t done this full body workout in a while and forgot that the protocol here was to do each move 3x in a row before moving on to the next. Fri-YAY checkin! I woke up to a dead battery on my Apple Watch, so I wasn’t able to track it, which feels so weird 😅 Decided to do more FitClub workouts, so I started with Yami’s no repeat lower body routine and then followed it up with cardio upper body, to make it a full-body day. For Lower body, I used my 15’s and 20’s for most moves. The upper body was tricky, as Yami suggests going a bit lighter (she uses 5’s)… but I decided to be a rebel and use my 10’s. Wednesday evening check-in! Got on the treadmill for some running intervals. It feels good to stay consistent, even though my weeks haven’t looked the same as usual. Things are super busy, I miss a workout here or there, but just continue to get workouts in on the other days that do work. Ok, here is my week’s round up of workouts! I didn’t get a workout in on Monday, as I ended up needing to work after the kids went to bed, which cut into my usual workout time. This past week has been a bit stressful while trying to wrap up these flood restoration renovations, and work being busy here the holidays, but I trying to keep my eye on the finish line. I know that the TIU Best of 2023 has started, but for some reason, I have felt pulled to do workouts from Yami’s Fitub app. So on Tuesday morning I had exactly 40 minutes, so this full body strength workout was just what I needed. I used a mix of 20lbs and 15lbs weights, as well as 10’s for a few shoulder moves. Loved it! I need more of these 40 minute workouts in my life, they are the perfect length for me when I don’t feel like having to put thought into stacking. Wednesday, I was able to get a quick interval incline walk in on the treadmill and a quick stretch. Thursday was a busy rest day, but Friday morning, ended up being more Yami workouts! I did a full body strength workout followed by a full body HIIT. I’m really loving her workout style right now, so I’m going with it! I’ve been good with my workouts, but still not great with check-ins! I don’t know if it’s the season of the year or the this season of life that I’m in that’s making everything feel so hectic, but I’m just working my way through it. On top of trying to get ahead of holiday shopping, the flood house repairs are coming along and my exercise room is officially finished and I’m back in business! Drywall and painting are finished on the main and upper levels, so now we just need flooring to go in on those floors. A few more weeks of disarray, but hopefully will have the house fully repaired before the holidays. 🤞🏻 Monday evening was a treadmill interval run. I feel good about pushing my speeds, with a 5.1 for runs, and a 7.5 for sprints. Followed it up with Morning Stretch with @alexandrafratella . Tuesday morning was 5am wake up and I’ve still been roughly following the Own Your Strength workouts. So I did Full Body Bell with @stefcorgel and @making_fit_count . Wednesday evening I got another short treadmill interval run in and then did the Long + Lean stretch with Karena. Happy Fri-YAY! Got up for a 5am workout this morning. I love the vibe of this Lower Body HIIT workout with @_daliabarrios and @thelifeofaflowers . Love the beach scenery, and the energy of these two together. Plus, my heart rate was UP, what a great burn. I used my 15lbs weights for all of the moves, but did lower reps. I followed it up the short Karena arm booster, which was the perfect amount of time. I had to slower my weights for this one because 60 seconds is way too long for heavy weights lol. I also tried some moves with heavier weights and alternating arms. I’m glad I got my workout in this morning, because I happened across an appointment available to get in for a flu shot and Covid booster, so I might have sore muscles this weekend, here’s hoping whatever reaction is mild! I've been around... just not consistent due to working, taking a post-grad course and having two toddlers. My exercise took a backseat because for whatever reason my course's assignments were weighed towards the last 2/3 (and especially the last third) . I did however score a 95% in my course so I guess my efforts paid off. I think I'm going to follow @finding_my_peace2023 's lead and cut sugar. I’m still working away, my posting has just been scarce with the craziness that November has brought. Flood repairs are is full swing and now that painting and flooring has been done in the basement, they are now concentrating on installing and painting the trim. We will still need to deal with floor replacement on the main floor at some point soon, but it’s exciting to have a few areas of the house nearing completion. I definitely felt very off the past few weeks with routine all out of wack and my workouts lacking. On Monday evening, I did a treadmill run and a quick stretch, which felt amazing. Happy Fri-YAY! Checking in for Week 3, Day 5 of the #TIUPowerUp challenge. Got up this morning at 5am to get my workouts in. The order of my workouts have been all over the place, so today was Booty Burn Powered Up, then Ab Burn Booster, then Cool it Down. This was a great stack! I’m really loving Allegra’s workouts, they are quick and effective. She encourages heavier weights, gets your heart rate up and leaves you feeling like you worked hard. I also love that it still includes a warm up and some stretches mid-workout. The Ab burner was hard! Those side planks were like woah. Definitely had to take some breaks and eventually modify to rest on my knee. The stretch was perfect because it then included stretches for abs and low back. LOVE! It’s my birthday!!! 🎉 And of course my Week 3, Day 4 of #TIUPowerUp check-in started off a little questionable! I had my alarm set for 5am because I figured it would be nice to start my day off with some move movement. Then my daughter decided to come into our room at 4:40am and I so I decided I was going to change my alarm to 6am and skip the workout to get more sleep. But even though we sent her back to her room, she came back in again at 5:30, so I decided to just go downstairs anyways and squeeze in a quick @allegraparis workout in the time that I had. So I ended up doing Super Strength and it was perfect. Quick, but sweaty and it got my heart rate up. I also decided to go for a midday walk to stretch my legs and listen to a podcast, and it was so nice as the weather was pretty mild today. We don’t have anything crazy planned for today since Thursdays is when we get McDonald’s and jet to get my daughter to Dance Class. But we’re going to go to a restaurant tomorrow, and then my in-laws are coming over on Sat for dinner. Should be a fun weekend! Walking went from 2.5-2.7, jogging 4.5 > 4.7, running 5.0 > 5.2, sprinting 6.5 > 7.0. Let’s get it, Week 3 up of #TIUPowerUp! I have another day booked off of work, so I used the opportunity to get my normal evening run in during the day. This way, I can just relax tonight after the kids are in bed 😮‍💨 Got on the treadmill and did my usual interval run. I’m trying to bump the speed up ever so slightly, so my jog was a 4.6, my walk is a 2.6, my sprint is a 6.5 or 7.0 and my run is a 5.0. Followed it up with Allegra’s Total-Body Circuit Booster. Week 2 wrap up of #TIUPowerUp check-in! I had booked the day off of work today and decided to take advantage and do things that felt good. So after dropping the kids off at school, I came home, did Karena’s meditation with an LED mask on. Then jumped into the Beginner Booty workout with Allegra. Pushed myself with 20lbs weights for all of the moves! Then I did the Full Body Stretching with Lex and damn, was that good! So needed, I loooove a frog pose, mainly because I know how tight I am in that area and how much I need it. Then decided to warm up my coffee and go for a little walk because, even though it’s chilly here now, the sun was out and it was calling me. Came home, had a shower, then went for a haircut. Week 2, day 4 #TIUPowerUp check-in! Got the Dynamic Total Body workout in this morning at 5am. This was a burner, and was in disbelief that I had more banded leg lifts to do 😅 I was happy when the last round used dumbbells and used that as an opportunity to bump up to my 20lbs weights for the one-legged deadlift and squats, and 15’s for the arms and abs sections. I like the banded workouts, but I’m craving more weights, hoping to get that out of Allegra’s workout tomorrow morning! Decided to add on Tori’s Quick Cardio Abs in the end to get my heart rate up. Week 2, day 3 #TIUPowerUp check-in! Went for a treadmill run, but cut it a little shorter than normal so that I could fit in the Twist It Out yoga flow. This was actually SO GOOD. A lot of the yoga routines in the app are a bit fast paced and hard to follow, but this one was slow, intentional, and Alex does a great job and explaining the little details around what you should be doing and feeling with your body. It was the stretch that I needed, big time! I also decided to do a foam roll with Yami on my phone while I was watching TV last night. Happy week 2 of #TIUPowerUp! It was Thanksgiving weekend here in Canada, so I spent the weekend seeing family, eating turkey and pie, and drinking wine. That’s a wrap on Week 1 of the #TIUPowerUp Challenge! I only have one meditation left, but have completed all of the workouts. This morning I doubled up Mindful Morning Flow with @alexandrafratella & Hip & Back Flexibility with @stretchwithlex This was a nice way to wrap up the week with some stretching and mobility. I feel like there has been am ongoing conversation in the community about people feeling uncomfortable or not drawn to things like stretching or yoga, and yet realizing that it’s also something that we should and need to be doing. I love lifting heavy weights, but struggle to slow down and do stuff like barre moves, booty bands, and yoga, mostly because I become focused on my heart rate and calorie burn. And yet I know that the reason barre and bands are such a struggle for me is because all of those other little connecting muscles need work too! I have constant psoas muscle pain because I know it’s a combo of it not being strong enough and also not stretched enough. It’s mainly an issue for me because I sit at a desk all day long. So I’m going to keep pushing on and working on those areas that I struggle with, knowing that it’s all for the long term goal of health and a body that will last me for a long time. Day 4 of the #TIUPowerUp Challenge! Since I prefer to stack my workouts, I had to go a little out of order today to make the timing work. So this morning was Banded Booty + Legs Blast with @sweatwithbec and then Full-Body Scorcher with Karena. Didn’t get super sweaty or my heart rate up a ton, but it WAS a huge lower body burnout! I can already tell that I’m going to be sore in all the places that regular squats just don’t get into sometimes. As you can see, I had a little spotter come and join me because she woke up early. 💕 The full body scorcher was only one round, so it was a good add on, but I don’t feel would be something I would do just in its own. I did like that she threw a little stretch at the end though, since the booty band workout didn’t have any stretching.
