I read something once that said that for most of life, nothing wonderful happens. Of course I was immediately taken back by that but read on… “If you don’t enjoy getting up and working and finishing your work and sitting down to a meal with your family or friends, then the chances are that you’re not going to be very happy. If someone bases their happiness or unhappiness on major events like a great new job, huge amounts of money, a flawless happy marriage or a trip to Paris, that person isn’t going to be happy much of the time. If, on the other hand, happiness depends on a good breakfast, flowers in a yard, (a sunrise… a sunset), a drink or a nap, than we are more likely to live with quite a bit of happiness.” I think about this often. Live for the small things… and happiness will find you.

Sometimes your childhood hero is just the adult version of You. Celebrate the milestones, even if it's only you at the party. A decade ago, I received an acceptance letter to the NIU Nursing program. It kicked my ass for 5 humbling semesters of tough training. As it empowered me, I learned how unhappy I was in other areas of life. 8 years ago 12|13|15, I walked myself in a white dress across a stage for a pin and degree that regeared my whole life. It helped me uproot 26 years' foundation in the Midwest, shed unhealthy relationships, and haul my bare necessities to the west coast for a fresh start. The trials kept the chase back and forth over the years. Today, my landing pad in the Bay is now my own home and sanctuary. My dream job at my dream hospital came true. Yet I'm still learning, growing, and adapting in every way, every day that I can. And sometimes the workload of doing it all alone breaks me down. But then I reflect, as I am now ... and damn. If Younger Me could see Me Now, she might just learn to Love herself a little better than what she received back then. I can't thank everyone enough for their involvement: Mark came to me with an idea back in August, and we kinda just hopped into it a couple weeks after that.
