Although not an outright bad film, #TheDesolationOfSmaug is predictable in its pacing and editing. book review ☕️ Q: who’s your favourite character in the LOTR series? The Fellowship of the Ring by J.R.R. Tolkien 4/5 🌟 Before we start, I’m gonna lay it on the table. I’m a Narnian by heart. Let’s begin. My feelings for the book was like a yo-yo. At times I was confused and unsure how to take the book, I got bored a few times, and then the excitement of the plot would kick in and I was for Middle Earth, then the pattern would repeat. But I think in the end I came to like it. About 15% into the book I was intrigued to know more about this Hobbit Frodo and what he was going to do with the ring Bilbo left for him. Then 27% into it I was getting bored of Tolkien’s detail of the land, which I’ll never come to remember anyways lol, but then chapter 7 really sucked me into the story. This part of their journey with Tom made me wonder what now have they gotten themselves into? Can they trust this stranger? Then I came around to chapter 8, and for the first time I pondered a lot in its scenes like I would when reading Lewis’ Chronicles. But okay, then I got to chapter 10 and this is where I began to sit on the edge of my chair. Things FINALLY got interesting for the plot. Before it was landscape landscape landscape, and granted that the descriptions are nice and needed, in others they can be a drab to read. Then 72% into the book I began to read it not as one to finish it, but actually reading it because things in the plot picked up tenfold. The adventure got more interesting, more dangers occurred, and it altogether was enjoyable to read how the characters would get themselves out of such high stakes. Overall: this first instalment to the Lord of the Rings series felt like I was reading something really ancient. Each character, except Tom who I found was weird, were unique and wonderful to learn about. I especially loved reading about the Elves. If you can get past all the long and lengthy descriptions in the beginning, you’ll see that Tolkien has a beautiful way of writing. One that makes you want to wrap yourself in a blanket by an open fire with a hot beverage. You’ll feel homely and comfortable. Well, like a Hobbit 😂

Oh wow! I actually had forgotten how different the movies were from the book! The Hobbit was not one of my childhood books.
