Stay soft, 2024 Deer skull, carpet weft, fabric, stuffing, glue I will not either confirm nor deny that the Mitski song "Stay Soft" was on my playlist when I was working on this piece 🙄 (me including it in this post doesn't help my case) Anyways, this one once again continues my studies in softness vs hardness. Soft and mellow colors of the weft versus the spiky antlers and the sharp, angular shapes of the skull beneath. When this was in WOIKKA contemporary, it's wefts hung all the way to the floor, where in ITÄ it hangs higher. Don't know if it's a fact anyone is interested — I just think it works either way. (also I think it got faded a bit between the exhibitions? 🤔 Just makes it even softer) Damn I like these mellow pink fabrics I found — you can expect more upcoming pieces with this color scheme. It's the final week of my exhibition in Taidekeskus ITÄ. There is a giant maple tree one house down from the house of a friend I go to several mornings a week to rally her son through the morning routine, and see him off on the bus to school. It’s almost neon yellow / green in colour, right now. It’s thick pollen a perfect shade of ochre yellow, scattered in a wide circle at its base. It makes me sneeze and itch my eyes and yet it’s been this steady reminder of what it means to grow…the tenderness of it all, the bravery really, to follow our path & personal cycles of growth, how ever that looks. Perhaps in fits and spurts of blooming, landing in the full brightness of realizations, and then crawling through the sticky mud of uncertainty & challenge. How we discard what is necessary to push ahead, and the handful of colliding feelings that often accompany such growth & letting go. It’s tender to be a human, and perhaps it is tender to be a tree too? I’m not exactly sure why that maple tree has inspired such a query within me, but it’s got me pondering how intimate personal growth is… I’m just coming out of a lull in my creating / making practice ( finally finished the taxes 🙃) and for some reason I just want to draw ladies. I really don’t draw at all, but their forms have been making me feel calm, soothed somehow, more at home with my own bending and shape shifting being. Headless lady forms and lady forms with hammered flower heads. Yah, that’s where I’m at, pondering life through trees and art. Staying soft & showing up as best I can, like we all are right? breathing in & breathing out. Someone asked at the hospital today, “Why can’t death be beautiful, too?” And I can’t seem to get her question out of my mind every time I remember the small Italian man, shoulders hunched, shuffling through his arthritis, and how he hugged me with tears in his eyes once I’d anointed the body of the one who’d been his bride for 66 years, blessing her back to the dust from whence she came. What was that, if it was not beauty? I mourn my own little death monthly, too; when the moon turns full and my lower back begins to ache and my body starts the process of shedding all the hopes I’d accumulated over the last 28-30 days. It is not a life that dies — more the possibility of it — but maybe I can teach myself to find beauty there, too, in all my empty spaces, like my womb and my disappointments, in saying goodbye to what was, what could have been, my feet planted on the earth I return them to.

SOFT BOYS er en novellesamling med ti historier om ti underlige teenagedrenge, der alle sammen bor i den samme by. @ekstrabladet skrev at “SOFT BOYS portrætterer unge mænds ensomhed og identitetssøgen på rørende og autentisk vis.” Lektørudtalelsen skrev, at det var “ti meget velskrevne og skæve noveller, der har meget på hjertet og som samtidig har noget sært dragende og foruroligende over sig, der gør det svært at slippe novellerne igen. Selvom novellerne står stærkt enkeltvis, er der en tydelig rød tråd gennem novellerne, der gør samlingen til en helstøbt læseoplevelse.” På et tidspunkt i skriveprocessen faldt jeg over et meme, som endte med at blive en slags ordnende princip for bogen. Det handler nemlig om, at verden er sådan et sted, hvor man hele tiden bliver sparket udover en eller anden afgrund. En forælder dør, mens man er barn, de store drenge i ungdomsklubben udsætter en for et overgreb eller man får en ond stedfar. Men verden er også sådan et sted, hvor der (næsten) altid kommer nogen og hjælper og griber en, når man falder. Jeg ville gerne skrive en samling af myter, fabler, eventyr eller lignelser om sære, bløde, følsomme drenge, der tænker for meget over tingene og kommer i problemer, men som også får støtte og omsorg og hjælp. Are you familiar with the “Let Them” theory? This is something that took me a very long time to learn. I used to tolerate a lot because I didn’t want to lose people. But I learned the hard way if they were really my people they would never treat me like that. Don’t make the mistake of being so understanding and forgiving that you overlook the fact that you’re being repeatedly disrespected. Let them be upset. Let them judge you. Let them misunderstand you. Let them ignore you. Let them be “right.” Let them doubt you. Let them not like you. Let them not speak to you. Let them make you out to be the villain. Whatever it is that people want to say about you, let them! Kindly step aside and LET THEM. The hard truth is they know how much they are hurting you. And they simply don’t care. They did what they did knowing it could cause them to lose you. And they did it anyway. People that love you care about how they make you feel. The end. Let them go. There will be people that would rather lose you than be honest about what they’ve done to you. Let them go. The lack of respect was the closure. The lack of apology was the closure. The lack of care was the closure. The lack of accountability was the closure. The lack of honesty was the closure. Let them go. You can still be kind. You can even still have love for them. But do it from the distance that they created with their words and actions. Access to you is a privilege; they have proven they can’t be trusted with. Let them go. Acht Wochen lang beschäftigen wir uns mit den Feldenkrais Prinzipien und arbeiten in verschiedenen Positionen. Es muss übrigens nicht erst zwicken und zwacken, bevor man sich mit Feldenkrais Stunden etwas Gutes tun kann. Wenn du an meinen Online-Kursen teilnimmst, schicke ich dir die mp3-Audiodatei zu falls du bei einer Live-Stunde mal nicht teilnehmen kannst. Steigst du später ein, bekommst du natürlich alle vorherigen Stunden zugesendet. Wer sowohl die Live-Stunden geniessen will und später die Stunde nacharbeiten möchte, kann diesen Service gegen eine geringe Gebühr bekommen. Es ist besonders hilfreich, die Lektion noch einmal (oder sogar öfters) zu wiederholen, um das Verständnis zu vertiefen. Wenn Du die Lektion erneut machst, wird oft die Organisation klarer.
