They have made a structure from hazel that will be used to grow squash and have created a tepee for climbing peas. Last month, @oracle volunteers visited Cliveden again. This time, the team were working on the Yew Tree Steps. Half of the steps were refitted and secured in place, along with the sleepers being replaced and topped up with gravel. Wooden side panels were also fitted for each step. Gardening Facts Here at Cliveden, the gardeners are working hard on seasonal jobs. This week they have been creating supports for plants. This is called 'peasticking'. By creating these supports using coppiced hazel, they are weaved together to keep boarder plants upright during the summer. 🌿⚘️🌱 Castlefield Viaduct 🌱⚘️🌿 We paired this with a trip to Manchester Museum as I'd been hoping to visit for a while but hadn't got round to it. It's not huge but it's still a lovely place to explore, my boys spent a lot of time searching for bugs and insects on the plants, in the pond or the bug hotels. There was also an indoor area, with a colouring station, a few books and a film about the project (so far)... We enjoyed our visit but it would definitely have been improved with an addition of a coffee (or an ice cream in the summer) which speaking to someone working there may be happening if the funding is extended. 📍 Castlefield Viaduct - can be accessed via the Deansgate Metrolink 🎟 free to all (but if you have a national trust membership you can scan it and it helps generate more income). 👶🏼 pram friendly as there is a lift. #nationaltrustdaysout #daysoutinmanchester #walkswithchildren #exploringmanchester

Book onto a House Tour at Cliveden and see the new replica of the Minton Medusa which is currently on display. The impressive, 14 inch centrepiece of Cliveden’s 19th century tiled floor features a winged Medusa in spectacular colour with green snakes entwined in her hair. The Medusa replica was a gift from the late John Scott and the easel was part-funded by the ‘Amersham Supporter Group’. Visitors can enjoy a 30-minute guided house visit. The house visits will run three times a day on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays, every 10 minutes from 11am - 12.30pm subject to volunteer availability. Tickets for the house visits are included in the admission price. Visitors can collect a ticket from the Information Centre on arrival, as these are first come, first served.
