Something I don’t often talk about … It’s something close to my heart that I have overcome recently and that’s my battle with mental health & PND . It’s taken a while for me to be in a good place about it , to talk about it in hope that it might inspire and help other mums to know they are not alone 🙏 To suffer once was hard enough , but twice was even more challenging than I could ever image. Or maybe it was just second child syndrome 🤷♀️ This time was a totally different experience than what it was with my first born, Stella. I was more aware, more equipped and knew what to expect but I was still feeling sad, lonely and I just wanted to feel happiness again. Without even realising, I had stopped prioritising my health, my fitness and doing things that brought me joy . It was easy to blame it on my girl not being a good sleeper, being unsettled all the time & I just didn’t feel like it. But with a little bit of help, leaning on support and having some alone time made it easier to manage. With time I was able to heal, and after 2.5 years we finally have some success with sleep. So if you are struggling at all to find happiness, find it hard to do things that you enjoy, not putting yourself first then it could be a sign that you may need to lean on others for support . Have someone watch your baby for an hour whilst you go get your hair done or have a coffee in peace 🫶 Just know you are not alone in your journey and there is hope! I’m not saying that to be negative or fatalistic, it’s just a reality that some of your relationships won’t be able to withstand the emotional and physical distance that having a baby creates between you. According to a study of 2,000 parents by Action for Children; 68% of parents felt “cut off” from friends after the birth of their child. Perhaps your friends don’t have children, in which case they can’t comprehend why 8pm isn’t a good time for dinner, neither can you understand why they aren’t interested in the fact that your baby can put its hand in it mouth now. Whereas you were once trundling along through life together in parallel, now your paths have diverged completely, and you’re heading in different directions. Your paths might converge again in the future but, for now, the strings holding that friendship together have come untied. Equally, trying to retain friendships with friends WITH children can feel like planning a military operation with nothing but an old napkin and a broken crayon to strategise on. The logistics of getting parents and babies of various ages, locations, nap schedules, dietary requirements and budgets together is a near-impossible task, and sometimes you just don’t have the energy to do it. But, while parenthood will inevitable lead to an unintentional cull of your friends, it’ll also shine a light on those truly golden pals who will accept the distance, missed calls, unanswered messages, lateness, cancellations and flakiness with grace and kindness. Happy Saturday, just some mum reality for you 🦒 . This last few weeks have been so challenging adjusting to Ronnie changing, no one tells you about this either! You just get settled in a routine then boom they change again! He’s confident on his feet now and really trying to communicate through noises, he gets upset when he can’t do something he wants to do we had the most embarrassing public meltdown 😭(this has been the hardest for me as I absolutely hate to see him cry and avoid it at all costs 😭). MUMS OF TWO, LEAVE SOME WORDS OF WISDOM FOR A MUM WHOSE ABOUT TO BECOME A MUM OF TWO ⏬⏬⏬ My piece of advice would be; prep as much as you can before hand, get a schedule, cook in bulk etc & accept help with the cleaning and having some watch either child so you can be with the other one (they are more important then the house) 🙌🏼 What ever experience you have with the transition, some days are easy, some are hard, you might need to cry. Mothers are only human. One thing about me is I will always recognise when I’ve not reacted in the way I should have. I lost my cool with my toddler today, but the constant not listening reaches a limit, and today my limit was met. I picked him up after nursery and apologised for my reaction and that it was not ok for me to shout at him. We had lots of cuddles and kisses, but a part of me still feels so bad. At whatever we're doing, and it's just my opinion of course, but if you're really trying to change something, if the way you're going about it doesn't match up with what you believe, and who you are, and what's right for YOU, then it's really unlikely it will stick 😕. Your family is important to you! Quality time with you kids! Your friends, your work, earning enough! Being comfortable, maybe making a difference! I bet All of this is important to you, it is to ME! But if you feel sluggish, you maybe can't do all of this... If you're trying to get "healthy", but it takes so much time to go to a gym +workout+shower, so you don't get back for kids bedtime, that won't stick either because you LIKE to be there at bedtime (most of the time anyway 😉) You CAN HAVE what's important to you, we just need to find ways to do it that ARE ALSO important to you 😊. Things you enjoy, things that are you.

The end of my part-time era ✨ Today was my last day at work before I start my new full time job next week (😩) Bitter sweet. I was gutted when I had to go back to work when Tilly was only 6-7 months old- but because she was so overdue along with me struggling to carry on working with SPD / PGP it meant I had finished work over 2 months before she was born! However, it’s been the most positive work experience the last 6 months and I’ve been lucky to have the loveliest team to work with but unfortunately we’ve got increasing bills to pay! I am feeling very appreciated after receiving a lovely handwritten card off the manager and a signed card off my colleagues along with gifts. It’s the little gestures that mean a lot. i love being a mum. it’s my favourite name that I’ve ever been given. i can admit, not every minute is full of sunshine and rainbows and sometimes i don’t necessarily love the load it comes with. But it’s the bonding over little things for me, watching the kids be kids, creating memories, experiencing every emotion, teaching the most important lessons and shaping their minds, finding a purpose, being healed by their little smiles, staying young and living in the moment!
