My last official run was September 2019 and my last personal run was soon after, then life sort of fell apart ... tried to get back to it, but life has been so difficult the last few years and it was just hard to keep motivated... but now I'm going to be running at Disneyland again this fall! ๐๐ผโโ๏ธ๐ - and this time I'll be registering via a charity & in honour of a friend who is going through a personal struggle which will make my run just that more meaningful. It will be a bit before the charity is ready so I can begin earning my bib, so focusing on getting back to training right now - have my first serious training walk under my belt, am starting to stretch out walks with the pup (she's not so sure about this idea yet), and have regular walks with my daughter planned so it isn't all solo training. What that quicksand will do?! Sometimes we find ourselves stuck in a career, relationship, job, etc. Some of us depend on the old adage, "We promote from within". Not because of naรฏvetรฉ but you may have seen examples of others but you don't know what they did to get that. Other times you find yourself, getting a side hustle for some extra income or because your current job is just that easy. But most often I hear from my clients is that they are considering leaving a company or industry and are scared because they may feel guilty or unprepared for the competitive environment that they will experience. In short, they feel safe but are unfulfilled due to lack of challenge or recognition. Here I go... 1. You don't owe any company ANYTHING. They are paying you to do a job, it's not like you are doing it for free...unless you are doing work outside of your job description which is a big 'no no'. 2. Networking is key to ascension and some folks are much better at that than others. Me personally, I can't 'fake the funk', so I had to find a more honest way to do that...and I did. 3. Boredom is quite a powerful tool. Use that time to upskill and beef up your resume. Wanted to back this train up a couple days, and fill you in on some of the holiday happenings. Thursday our good friends Wildcat Moving Lexington KY took our belongings from our donated unit at Storelocal Lexington to Santaโs workshop. Lots of volunteer hands made for lighter work, and some of us even earned extra elf points for moving the second unit via U-Haul. This is the third year of Wildcat donating their services and I cannot recommend these guys enough: prompt, friendly, and professional. Friday we picked up all the donated food items from Operation Beat Beaumont (or Jessie Clark) depending. The two middle schools battled it out food drive style for house points. Today was Pink Santa at Oliveโs Apron, with 100% of ticket sales going to support our mission. Beautiful decor, the sweetest treats, and look at that jolly guy. Huge thanks to owner Ashley Crossen, and photographer Megan Hayden Photography who donated her services to document this special meeting. Meanwhile, across town two spirited crews descended on Chinoe and Hartland Kroger for dueling food drives to help reach our goal of packing out 2000 food boxes this Christmas. Good day! I tell you, every day gives me something to consider. With a growth mindset you can do quite a bit with that. We all know that because of the changing environment, we are always on the hunt for not only acquiring new skills but also increasing our depth of expertise. It is the Age of Information and my breadth and depth of experience across the data disciplines has granted me partners with agencies in advisory roles. Remember, when you know your value, you know the monetary worth of it.๐ฐ To be quite honest, I don't have to learn anything more than what I have now due to the state of immaturity of corporate data systems. Everyone talks AI and Machine Learning but you have to have the foundation first which is quite rare. What had me reconsidering this? This morning, I received a call from a potential informational consulting gig. However, because I am limited in industry OPERATIONS and work purely in the data landscape, I couldn't accept. This is not the first time I've had to decline this type of gig. But this time I really thought...what if I invested just a little bit of time understanding what makes certain industries tick. I have to admit, I abhor business operations. You know why? Because my brain works logically. There are too many variations in business operations which I personally believe shouldn't be the case because that's where bad practices and inconsistency comes in. I can only demonstrate that from the data side. Welcome back! I hope everyone enjoyed their Thanksgiving. I know that sometimes things don't always turn out the way you want to. A family argument, an uninvited guest, a burnt dish, illness, or missing the presence of those near and dear. This may seem disconnected in some ways but I always find that these are the times that help me grow. I received some unfortunate news this weekend regarding my YouTube channel. It's not going away but I need to start a new one due to some unknowns which had me almost doing away with my YouTubing. There is this concept of 'Trial and Error'. Others may call it 'Baptismal by Fire'. ๐ For me, the Trials have never been an issue for me, it's the Errors. Typically, I can recover from errors. But in this case, this was so severe that it put me in a position of nearly starting over. As someone who works in data and have written code only to find out that I had to scrap it and start from scratch, I was understandably frustrated but I've never been in a mental space where I wanted to just abandon mission. I know for certain that I felt this way because I am building my own company with 4 brands. The investment in time, money, and mind was a blow that I hadn't expected. But hey things happened and YouTube is another passive income for brand promotions. You live and learn to share with others. I look at this picture and the arrangement is different for me. Trial --> Learning --> Experiences... It's the Pre Thanksgiving prep and I'm just gonna slide a lil somethin somethin in today. ๐ I woke up having both a pleasant and disconcerting memory from my childhood. As I worked through my feelings at that time, I gained some illumination that is mind blowing! Storytime. I remember being a great athlete. Learning the game, practicing my technique, and my determination to heed my coach's guidance. I was at the top of my game. A starter in soccer and a bench player in basketball. That's significant because starters set the tone of the game and reveals to the coach what strategies to take. A bench player IS the strategy the coach plays to shift the game. In both these sports, I was known for my agility, endurance, and speed. So I should be a great sprinter right? Nope. I remember standing at that start line and when they said Go! I couldn't believe the speed these ladies had. When I didn't succeed in that event, my prior accolades in the other sports didn't matter. I almost walked off the track. Then I stopped and thought I do have endurance, why not go for the distance events. When they trained me with the boys, I knew I found my event and even got to a 6 min mile. This was in 8th grade and the high school track coach spoke to my mom because he couldn't wait to train me. "She's good but I will make her better." Then I moved states and all of that went away. Another story for another day on my podcast or YouTube channel. My point here is that in the workforce, you must be able to shift your actions, reactions, responses, and engagements to the team, client, and project. You are not changing who you are, you are invoking your strengths and channeling them to where they fit for success. Adaption will influence the environment you are in. Life Coach 101. It's funny the inspiration you find in the most random things. I found myself sipping on an Arnold Palmer...half lemonade and half sweet tea. A thought popped in my head. It can be baffling to find so much joy in the combination of sweet and sour. That's how it works for cooking, educating, mixology, metallurgy, and I'm sure many other applications and professions are the same. I just came back from my GP doctor whom I LOVE. She listened to me spout out the major changes that happened with me this year and how I am so happy where I am with my career, my business, and my marriage. Like there is some real progress. I am absolutely content besides the ocassional routine interruptions. So what made me go to the doctor, right? Well I started having headaches, which led to nausea, which led to me not eating which reinforced the headache. I mean I was taking Ibuprofen over the recommended dosage just to get it to stop. This would gradually increase until it was daily. I don't know about you but, that ain't normal. I began to question, am I on the right path. Should I be an author? Should I be a Life Coach? Should I be Podcasting and YouTubing? The only thing that came to mind was "You damn right I should!" But it was this 'sour' thought that tested my commitment. I can say I am here to stay and I am thankful for those moments which solidify my decisions and continue to mold me into a better person all around. We are going to have many bad days ahead but that instance can't stop an empire, only you can do that. Accept your calling, Give it all you got, and Never be too stubborn to grow. Life Coach 101. What's life giving you today? This quote has somehow combined 3 previous word of the days into one and has nailed it perfectly. While this quote is awesome, it's the abstract image that is the main focus here. Imagine each color an activity (writing, editing, marketing, content creation, podcasting, promoting, blogging) and then add to that all the creativity, ideas, and imagination that you cannot get to because of all the activities. It's a beautiful array that is difficult to organize, and separate. But the beauty of it conflicts you because that's where you thriveโin the chaos. My husband told me, "You need to separate yourself from all the social media and it's metrics: the likes, comments, and shares. When you come back you will realize you have went viral. Your book and YOU are that good." This is why I've started to manage my time between my promotions and my work. When I did that, I slept VERY well. The last line of this quote is the realist. Resiliency is HARD but IYKYK. Believe in yourself and your purpose. We all have one. Unfortunately, for some, their purpose is to challenge your resolve. I certainly had that happen this past Friday. Today is the day, I introduce myself as a podcaster. Let's say the word of the day is Nebula. Writing is definitely my passion, though some people are auditory and I feel I have my own personal stories to tell and there are many. Some will move me to tears or perhaps even you. I want that connection because that comes first, next is the community. That is what I am building here. I think we can all agree that there aren't enough support groups that can take on the real deal. But you got the right one here. And every day is the right day. I am on a mission to create safe spaces and communities for the survivors. We all have gone through the dark in some way: loss, self esteem, mistreatment, anxiety, suicidal ideation, depression, betrayal and in so many different forms. That's why they call it the 'light at the end of the tunnel'. We think we are stronger alone because no one understands us and the person that we've become after the traumatic residue. You aren't. If you want to be an ambassador of "I've been through Hell and stared the evil in its eyes and said, 'Bring it on!'" then this podcast is for you. Essentially, you can't be upset at someone for not responding the way you want them to or loving you the way you want to be loved. That's REAL TALK. I know the only way to make real change is for engagement (such as comment something about a podcast episode or tag someone who you feel it resonates with) and when that doesn't happen, the mental fatigue starts to set in because I am thinking I'm not making a connection and I start to regress, "Am I doing what I set out to do?". In actuality, it refers to self-respect and the awareness of your strengths. I suppose that I believe in myself, my podcast, my life coaching, and my literature so much that it IS helping folks in ways they haven't conceived. Good evening! I know you didn't think I would miss a post today, did you? The word of the day is Verb. I was going to dedicate this post as a reminder to the launch of my podcast today (even though I just did ๐), but I'm going to go in a different direction. I received a call today from a throwback coworker now homegirl. Anyone who knows me knows I am a low maintenance, but the ONE call friend. We caught up so much and shared our business ventures and growth. I had to stop and save it for MULTIPLE episodes. It is God that she called me today because I was struggling with merchandise, and this is her niche. She even said she would sponsor me because she believed in me that much. I declined because we need each other to help promote our brands. But what's so amazing about this interaction is the SUPPORT. The words of India Arie, "No one has the power to hurt you like your kin," has so much meaning. I have received overwhelming love and reactions from my friends and professional colleagues that it seems unreal. With the amount of family I have, if they promoted me to just 5 people, I can imagine what my penetration would be. It can be deflating, but when you have friends who call you family like @DivasDesign01, who is in the game with you, it helps to ease the disappointment. It's amazing who will show up for you. Hello, beautiful souls! The word of the day is Tenacity. I just attended my youngest godsister's bridal shower, and I must say I was filled with so much energy of determination and persistence. I was reminded of a time when I was offered an opportunity, you know, one of the ones that they were sure you would fail at and there was no one to help you or bounce ideas off of. I was on my own. But you can't just sit there. Feel the feeling and then get up and letโs make moves. I remember coming in to the office early, eating lunch at my desk, joining community forums on the internet...just anything to prove to myself that I could do anything and be able to give the ones who gave me the impossible a nice GTFOH smirk. That might have given me more determination than me building my self-confidence. Sounds like a good episode for Moving With Meaning The Podcast. Not only did I suceed but I did what they couldnโt in the worst possible scenario they created. After that, I really really knew I could do anything, and so did the imposters, plotters, perceiver deceivers, and naysayers. That isn't to say they didn't try again, but I stayed slaying Dragons. Good Day! The word of the day is Efficacy. More specifically self-efficacy. This in reference to the belief in yourself to have the capacity to perform actions which produce favorable outcomes, results, goals...you get the point. ๐ This morning, I was in my bathroom doing my morning routine, you know hygiene ๐. I look over and saw this candle on my vanity that my husband sent me after I was telling him about an exhausting day I had months ago. I made a mental note to always look at this message and repeat it every morning from now on. We all have the confidence and control to dictate our motivation, drive, behavior, and moves in the environment we are in...not speaking of the severe case such as trafficking. Don't like how you are being treated someone, make corrections or create some distance. Think you are more than you are now but require academics, enroll in the certification or college courses to put you in contention. Don't like the job you're at, update and activate your resume. Someone told me nearly 15 years ago when I was accepting a very low paying job and knew that I was overqualified; she told me "No mam. 'Step out on Faith'." I was too scared then and took the job anyway...worst decision. But thereafter, I live by that. I encourage everyone to look at their current situation and see if it suits them. For the majority it does...it just may need some improvements because we are not perfect. But we all know the difference between tested and toxic. You decide.
