What I Took vs What I *Used* - for my weekend stay at Alnmouth** Image 1: What I Took - 2 sketchbooks, 29 pencil crayons, 24 watercolour pencils, 4 watercolour crayons, 5 water filled brushes, spritz bottle, watercolour palette (not pictured), 10 soft pastels, 4 coloured pens, 2 black brush pens. Image 2: What I Used - x1 sketchbook, x1 pencil Thought documenting what I take, vs what I use to draw would be a fun/helpful way to get better at packing the right stuff/right amount of stuff! Bcs when I pack it’s so hard to slim it down. Then I get there & use 1 crayon 😂 which is fine! I’m just interested to see if making a habit of this changes anything… I’ll post some pics of my sketches this week. "True North" - we had an exciting day doing a photoshoot last year at "Adventure Prospect" a rental cottage at Explosion Museum, Priddy's Hard. It is such a beautiful historic building, blowing a hoolie outside (it was November!) with the rain beating on the windows, but it was so bright and cosy inside (and yes, that is the sea a few feet from the French windows!). I will post a reel about it soon. True North is about self-discovery. The warm colours indicate the powerful feeling of aligning with your true purpose. A subtle hint of a horizon suggests a new perspective. I painted this last summer whilst struggling with finding my way - I put on some loud music in my studio and just painted - and this appeared! When in doubt, start at the beginning! Starting a new body of work is daunting, especially as I have been out of practice with my art recently. So when in doubt, I start at the beginning with some simple drawing exercises to free myself up. I take a large sheet of cartridge paper and mark it off with masking tape into smaller oblongs and squares. Make marks freely and intuitively. Stand back and see what happened! Here I am using Posca pens, Woodies, charcoal and tempera sticks. I don’t know where I would be without kid's art supplies! That black is yummy!! Really intense….. not my normal thing but wow! Just a few years ago, I was drowning in traumas from my past. There were so many dark days when I didn’t think I’d find my way out. But with the amazing support of friends, family and my tribe, I kept putting one foot in front of the other, doing the work to heal little by little. Who would have thought that now, I’d be a Reiki Master Teacher in just under two weeks? Once upon a time, I couldn’t have imagined walking this path. Yet here I am, being featured in a local wellness magazine and connecting with the most wonderful clients, making new friends and business relationships! It’s been a long, hard road full of ups and downs. Times when I wanted to quit. But something inside me wouldn’t give up.
