Mt. Tamalpais in the late afternoon. Hiking the many trails on Mt. Tamalpais has often felt like a form of meditation. Surrounded by redwoods and birdsong I can breathe more deeply, or so it feels.

It’s 36”x36” - I love this size - enough space for being free, and with my cozy studio, still manageable to rotate it on my easel. @bara_woodshaping panels are so nice to paint upon once I got over the feeling like I was painting on furniture! WIND 🌬️ WHO doesn’t love mark making in different ways 😍 Using our wind piece from our weather stacking set - @little_stories_uk Nellie was so focused on this one, and after we did lots of different wind markings we moved onto number formation. The amount of times she was ‘drawing’ the number 1 was so cute! She was saying ‘a line down, across the bottom and give him a hat’ 🥹 later on that day she even said ‘mummy can we draw number one a hat again’ and then asked for the same activity the next day. Who knew all this gorgeous learning would come from one quick set up using a weather piece from @little_stories_uk and some sand 🌟 The weather stacking set from @little_stories_uk is only £10! And their NEW play pack is launching tomorrow at 8pm 🤩

Now for something completely different. Here’s a drawing assignment I had last week that challenges my way of looking at objects. We were to pick an object and do three drawings, each conveying an emotions - calm, tension, sadness. I chose to draw a piece of wood, like a portrait, keeping the composition the same but using different drawing techniques to convey the emotion. Trying to find emotion in a piece of wood was challenging! Anyway, I wished I’d had more time to make the drawing a little better (and I should have used better paper too!) but here’s what I did. Challenging and I learned a lot. I thought I’d share for those who enjoy drawing, it’s an excellent exercise! Mark making outdoors is a fantastic way to encourage creativity, sensory exploration and engagement with the natural environment. By providing children with access to varying resources, they are supported and encouraged to develop skills across many areas. While outdoors, mark making not only engages multiple senses, but also helps to support physical development.
