The night we got that first vaccine appointment, we'd just about given up, after refreshing the appointment page for 10 minutes straight. ⠀ PERIODT. ⠀ ⠀ So, that last post got me thinking... ⠀ ⠀ about social media, mental health, ego, imposter syndrome, the increasing amount of witches joining this community, the incredible vastness of info (& misinformation) out there, gatekeeping, “love & light,” the closeness I feel toward witches halfway across the world — & so much more...⠀ ⠀ I don’t know if it was this New Moon, Covid craziness or something else entirely — but good goddess what was supposed to be just a Hail Mary post after the whole second half of my original demo poofed — turned into some heavy contemplation within me. Especially as a witchy small biz with a large emphasis on crystals. I’ve seen certain factions of this community decry the purchase of specific items (white sage & crystals mainly) for our craft. To that I say two things: ⠀ ⠀ A? Don’t tell me how to practice my craft &⠀ ⠀ B? 𝗘𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴 done with 𝕚𝕟𝕥𝕖𝕟𝕥𝕚𝕠𝕟 is 🅼🅰🅶🅸🅲⠀ ⠀ This line came to me HARD, just before I sat down to record. In fact, it was the only note in the video not written on the spot. With this in mind during the ritual — a few key points kept ringing in my ears.⠀ ⠀ I never want to make someone feel less than just because I might be using crystals, herbs or tools they might not have. That’s one of the reasons this demo is so important to me — to show that you don’t NEED to follow a perfect formula. You can use bergamot in place of fennel. You can get distracted, take a breath & continue your ritual, etc. ⠀ ⠀ My craft isn’t perfect. NO ONES craft is perfect (even though on IG we try to portray the most aesthetic of it, of course! & there’s nothing wrong with that either) until the unrealistic standard causes imposter syndrome in the maidens, broom-closeted or baby witches of OUR community. ⠀ ⠀ Yes, it’s OUR community & we need to protect & respect it. ⠀ ⠀ So here’s what I offer to you, straight from the KK mission statement: “using completely natural & sustainable methods; I am offering you the tools to create & cultivate your individual craft & ritual.” ⠀ ⠀ WHY? New moon ritual, a clarity spell, burning a scroll with our intent and what we want to manifest. This was truly powerful AF. There's power enough in a tiny purple candle, a tiny scroll of paper, and our intentions to literally explode the candle holder. As soon as we lit the scroll, the flame on the candle trembled wildly, and we knew we were in for a ride. 🔥🔥🔥 It's clear now why @thehoodwitch says to do this in the sink. 🤣 It wasn't an issue the last time we did this, but when we burned this during @waxa_katie's set, starting with the song "Fire," the candle holder exploded (putting out the fire for the most part, thankfully). After the session detailed in the last post, we were called to write an affirmation, manifestation, or future memory we wanted to carry with us from our time today, place it on the bottom of the jar, embellish the jar as we felt drawn to, and add it to our altar and burn candles on and beside it. Went to the @media.2070 Things We Carry With Us event tonight, where we wrote stories and created objects in a visioning exercise. We made space for collective dreaming around what needs to change to realize a future where media reparations is a fait accompli and Black voices, Latinx voices, and other marginalized voices are instead centered. The exercise was, based on headlines about those futures, to create stories supporting those headlines, then objects that enable those stories. This was the headline our group chose: "Home surveillance market nosedives as 'Porch Elders' movement replaces police & cameras with community organizing grandmamas." We imagined a world of collective liberation where co-ops replaced corporations, police and prisons were abolished, food and water security were assumed, ingenuity and sustainability were taught, elders were celebrated for their wisdom, protest and the press were free, and mutual aid, trust, and shared understanding replaced the things that divide us. We prototyped a liberation kit that could be created with ordinary items already available in the present world, if not yet equitably distributed, to assist in dismantling the tools of our collective oppression. Note that these are all things that will get confiscated now if you take them to a protest. If ordinary people are all equipped with basic tools and the apparatus of the corporate singularity no longer exists, what then? Upon leaving the event, we found that our Amazon package had been delivered...to another porch in an unknown location, per the delivery person's photograph. We had to talk to a robot and a call-center worker to get a refund. It seemed apropos.
