It’s time to get your cold & flu helpers happening! Chop your garlic in half to release the allicin (the good stuff) and let sit for 10 minutes. Pour your local honey over the top and seal it up. You must open the lid at least once a day for a week or 2 to release the build up of fermentation. Let sit for at least 4 weeks. 😱 I thought Possums hated citronella?! Mine seem to be addicted to it. The last few nights we kept finding our citronella buckets on the floor and just thought the wind had blown them off the table. Look at the colour! In the land of skincare formulating, this is what we call a glycerite. Rose petals infused in vegetable glycerin. Glycerin is a humectant, meaning it attracts water and prevents water loss. The healing properties of beeswax are too good to not use. The new line of Salves that I’ve been working on for months have this beautiful, sustainable, locally sourced beeswax in them. I tried many many vegan waxes and was just not happy with them at all. So many supply places I looked at sell bleached beads of wax from other countries..why? We have so many Australian businesses we should be supporting. I found a lovely family business where I can source this beeswax and go and visit the bees. Well I’m about to tell you why 😁 Some EO are thin like your Orange and Lemon..some are thicker and more dense like your Patchouli. In this picture you can see the difference, both little bottles have 50 drops! The bottle on the left is Patchouli and on the right is Sweet Orange oil. First batch of Fire Cider🔥 done! Have you heard of it or make it? I’m probably a bit late in the season to be brewing this, should of started a few weeks ago. Anyway it’s done now 😁 So many immune system boosters in this jar of goodness. My ingredients (you can really add anything you want) raw ACV with the mother, onions, garlic, horseradish root, ginger, raw local honey, rosemary springs, sage leaves, lemon, turmeric, cinnamon and a few red chillies. So simple to make, just chop up your ingredients, put the honey on top and pour in your apple cider vinegar. Give it a shake every few days and leave it in a dark place for 4-6 weeks. All you need to do is then strain it and pop it in the fridge. I think I’ll be using it daily as more of a preventative and double dose if I feel cold or flu coming on. Out with the small and in with the big! A bit of an overhaul has been happening in the Lotions & Potions little lab 😀 Picked up this huge and heavy 😬stainless steel bench a few weeks ago and it fits perfectly in front of the window where I like to dry my herbs. Lotion making is best done on S/Steel as it’s non-porous, doesn’t crack, easy to sanitise stopping any bacteria from growing. This is where all the magic 🪄 happens..turning plant material into natural body products 🍃 I have a few herbal infusions on the go at the moment, rosemary, lavender, calendula, chamomile for some new salves. Everything is done in here from creating, packaging and labelling (on the other side of the lab that I’m still re-setting up), keeping it all in sanitary conditions. 18...18 long months to finally completing an all natural body/face collection. Each product includes around 20 ingredients, carefully chosen and all there for a reason and a purpose. Tunnelling...it happens when the melt pool on your first burn doesn’t reach the edges. The candle will only burn to the diameter it burnt to last time. One cause of this is winter, the candles are as cold as you are 😂 and will burn much slower. A candle should only be burnt for 4 hours but I wick for power burners because I know you are out there..burning all day long! 😂 I do try and wick up a fraction on some fragrances during winter to help with this problem. So how do we fix this so we can continue burning the candle without it tunnelling? Grab your trusty old hairdryer! Put it on the lowest setting possible and run it around the edges. Once the sides have melted let it set and you’re good to go!
