#OTD in 47BC Cleopatra, aided by Julius Caesar, was reinstated as coruler of Egypt with her brother Ptolemy When her father, Ptolemy XII, died in 51 BCE, Cleopatra and her brother, Ptolemy coruled until she was forced to flee, about 50 BCE. After loosing the throne Cleopatra knew she needed Roman support, thus began her infamous relationship with Julius Caesar; he too gained from this alliance as he sought money for repayment of the debts incurred by Cleopatra’s father. When Roman reinforcements arrived Ptolemy XIII fled and drowned in the Nile. Cleopatra, (now married to her brother Ptolemy) was restored to her throne, with both her Brother/Husband and Caesar by her side. In June 47 BCE she gave birth to Ptolemy Caesar (known to the people of Alexandria as Caesarion, or “little Caesar”). It’s nice to be validated, but only insecure people constantly seek validation from others. Truth is you are the only one who can validate yourself.
