This one was a fun read. As someone who liked all the 80s slasher movies I liked revisiting all the tropes and finding out what became of the final girls so to speak. Some parts were a little too wordy (glossed over a few paragraphs here and there to back to the action) and I thought I had it figured out…but nope! Laurie Strode and Sidney Prescott. My favorite final girls of all time, I LOVE Laurie in all the Halloween movies. Well she could have been a little smarter in Halloween Resurrection but even Jamie Lee Curtis was tricked because she thought she killed Micheal in H20 and then the studio tells her it was the wrong person Laurie killed in H20 and Michael got away. So that’s why Laurie dies in Resurrection because Jamie wanted to be done with Halloween and I think she felt like she was lied too. But I still love the final showdown between Laurie and Michael in H20. I love when Laurie yells Michael’s name meaning she’s not running anymore and she’s ready to face her brother. I even love Laurie in the new trilogy, I just wish they kept the sibling storyline. But I did like the final showdown in Halloween Ends because Laurie wins against Michael and gets somewhat of a happy ending. Neve Campbell as Sidney is definitely my second favorite final girl. I also loved her in all the Scream movies she’s in, I Really missed her in Scream 6, It wasn’t the same without her and I am so excited she signed on to do Scream 7..Hopefully Sidney gets her happy ending like Laurie did or somewhat of one and isn’t killed off. I would be so sad if Sidney was killed off but I am pretty sure Neve has said in the past she wouldn’t do a Scream movie where Sidney dies. Like Gale said in 6, Sidney deserves her happy ending too. I think fans just want to see her get that happy ending, I know I do. I love that Jamie and Neve know each other too, There’s actually a video chat between them on YouTube from a few years back, Which I definitely recommend if you are a fan of them. ✨Backlist Book Review!✨ Final Girls By Riley Sager Genre: thriller/suspense/horror Published: 7/11/17 This is only my 2nd read by Riley Sager, although I have a 4 more on my shelf to read by him. My first was The House Across the Lake. I have to say I liked that one better than Final Girls. Final Girls was a very slow burn novel in the vein of a slasher film. It really only grabbed me at around 30-40% of the way through. At that point, I became more interested in discovering the truth about Quinn and the “final girls”. I definitely appreciated the plot twists toward the end. I did not anticipate the ending, which is always great. It was just a little too slow for me, and I found myself wanting to skip parts waiting for a big moment or event. If you like slasher movies and a slow burn thriller, you’d enjoy this one. For me it was a ⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 rounded up to 4 on Goodreads. P.S. Some books I found over hyped, under hyped and deserving of the hype! Over-hyped Bad girl reputation is the first and only Elle Kennedy book I have and will read, I really did not enjoy this the characters were awful and the story was not good! People LOVEE Never Lie by Frieda McFadden but I thought it was awful! It was so obvious what was going to happen and the twists were so badly done like just not good again I had to look to see if it was the first book she had ever written. Under-hyped Your word of mine was one of my favourite books I read last year I read the whole thing on a plane! It was so gripping I didn’t see a lot of it coming it was so so good and I never see anyone talk about it! I see a lot of Riley Sager books talked about but people seem to rarely talk about Final Girls which I loved, it was the first book of his I read and lead to me reading his others! Deserving the Hype I really enjoyed and loved Five Survive and The Song of Achilles! I loved #TheHouseAcrossTheLake As a horror/thriller lover, I’m workin’ my way through his collection of novels, and this one brought a surprise twist that I was SO HERE FOR. I’m addicted to the fact that some of his stories take place in my home state of Vermont (and many in New England; all in the northeast). The old age of NE just really sets the tone with some good spooky history. I’m fairly certain the last airbnb I stayed at on a visit home was haunted, as was our family home in Cape Cod (sorry mom & dad). Final Girls by Riley Sager Quincy, Samantha and Lisa are victims of different massacres but have one thing in common - they are final girls. They are the only ones who survived the ordeal. Quincy doesn't remember much of the horrifying night except a few scenes. All three women find ways to deal with the trauma, until one day news of Lisa's death reaches Quincy. Her past and present confuse her. She keeps repeating 'I'm fine' to everyone around her - her lawyer boyfriend, her case office Coop, her mother and a new friend, Samantha. Quincy's memories refuse to surface and she doesn't try to recall them either. When Samantha enters Quincy's life on the pretext of staying in touch after Lisa's death, everyone is suspicious, except Quincy herself. Sam's presence disrupts Quincy's life in ways she never imagined and she is forced to finally recall her trauma. What she remembers though, is shocking and brutal; because nothing and nobody is as they seem. The story reads slowly. There are many repetitions of certain facts. Quincy likes baking, she is a recluse, just exists. Her boyfriend Jeff is mellow and doesn't make an impact. What I didn't understand is, Quincy faced a trauma because her friend invited a stranger amongst their midst, but she just allows Sam to stay with her as long as she wants. She gets into risky situations and creates leverage for Sam to hold over her head. When the truth arrives, it's not incredibly shocking but it does surprise you. I have a few questions about what happened regarding a few incidents but not sure if I should've read them too deeply. I don't understand how some police procedures are shown to be so lax. It's not a bad read, it's fine and expert thriller readers may spot red herrings miles in advance. This is the second book by Riley Sager I've read and it's not as good as The only one left. Nonetheless, I will read his books as they do have surprise elements in them.
