Hello hikers! Our Gold Mountain hike is coming up this Saturday May 25! We will meet 8:45am and start hiking at 9. This is the first of the seven summits of Big Bear and we are planning on completing all seven this summer! 📍Where to park 38549–38561 Holcomb Valley Rd Big Bear City, CA 92314 34.30221° N, 116.82317° W Meet at the Pacific Crest Trail (PCT) and Holcomb Valley Road. The PCT crosses the road right before the transfer station. Parking seems to be along the side of the road. 🌲What to expect We will be starting out on the PCT which is single track, undulating trail with some rocky sections. We will then turn onto Gold Mountain Road about a mile from the summit. This is a somewhat rocky road with some sharper incline portions. The summit is basically a giant rock pile, which will require a bit of climbing. It’s awesome and the 360 views are stellar. ⏱️ Estimate 3-4 hours for this hike. Walking time should be around 3 hours or so, and then a little bit of hangout time at the summit. ⭐️ How to join Comment below or DM us if you would like to hike with us this weekend! Still on a high from my first Spartan Super 10k race. Literally saw the blood, sweat, and tears go into this. I sprained my ankle before the 3rd mile but still managed to get through the course. It's probably the most physically challenging thing I've done but so rewarding in the end. I made sure to take my brother with me seeing that he always asked me to do Tough Mudder with him but never got to. It was perfect that I did my first obstacle course race in his stomping grounds. The difference is discipline weighs ounces while regret weighs tons.” I don’t know what it is that brought me back to this race, some times you just need a good sufferfest to set that threshold of what’s actually hard in life. This race taught me a lot. The biggest take away is probably what determines success and accomplishment. Is it pictures and medals and podiums? Or is it the countless hours and hardwork you put in that nobody saw that translated over to accomplish what you set out to do, and suffer through it all with gratitude and thankfulness that you have a body that is so capable and that you never take a day from granted on how far we can push ourselves. The other half of the weekend was spent outside, at 7,000+ elevation running 12 miles in the mountains of Big Bear. This was my first race as an "official" Spartan Pro racer and even after a 50-miler a week before, my performance was everything I could have hoped for. I placed 14th (of out 304) in the Competitive block at arguably one of the most difficult races in North America. The weather was perfect, my obstacle proficiency was perfect, and my attitude was perfect. Although I lost my tracking chip somewhere around mile 4, I was able to submit my Strava map and had a running partner for over half the race (thanks @brandonjeppson40) to get me back on the standings after an initial DQ. Overall, stoked with the level of fitness I was able to output after a week of recovery from PCT50. Excited to complete my 2024 trifecta in Pala! I ran Spartan’s #BigBear Trifecta weekend & it painfully sucked like no other 😖🤣 I’ve only done a Trifecta weekend ONCE and had the audacity to attempt a whooping 4 races this time around! We call that a #Quadfecta or, in the case of Big Bear, “I can’t feel my Quads-fecta” 😂 I ran Saturday in the Beast’s Competitive division and managed to finish in time to run the Open Sprint immediately thereafter. We all agreed that the Beast was watered down from previous years yet the Sprint was the hardest 5K EVER… more difficult than the majority of the Spartan Supers I’ve done 😩 I went into Sunday strapped with yet another red headband in the Age Group Super and finished it to claim my 2nd Trifecta of the year. It would’ve been easy to pack up and leave with my X2 medal in hand, but I pressed on and endured one last round of #pain by running yet another Open Sprint. (For the record, I ran both Sprints under the Competitive rules so the #NoFakeFecta police wouldn’t throw shade at me and claim I skipped obstacles.) When it was all over, I was relieved the #sufferfest ended. Saying I did a Quadfecta sounds cool, but the races here really sucked the joy out of me 🤦♂️👎🤣 I could hardly breathe going up those high altitude hills and my heart’s check engine light was on full display as I practically inched my way to every finish line. I get that this wasn’t suppose to be easy, but I truly had to put my head down and not make eye contact with the waves of jelly rolls, grandmothers, and lung cancer patients, all of whom passed by me with absolute ease! Rim Nordic is excited to announce the 2024 XC Mountain Bike Race Series - Celebrating our 30th season of mountain bike racing! First race is Sunday, June 2nd! Series Dates: June 2, June 30, July 21 and August 11 (series finals). All races are on Sundays. Each race is an individual event for awards. All racers who sign up for all four races will receive a special edition 30th anniversary 20oz glass mug. Pre-riding will be available on Saturdays prior to the race with the “course of the day” to be marked the weekend before each race (or sooner). Reminder: no pre-riding the course on race days.
