The views from Harder Kulm in interlaken were incredible! This was the first sunny day we had in Switzerland and the first day you could see any kind of viewpoint. We took a 10 minute funicular to the top and enjoyed watching the parasailers go by. Something I loved- the universal nature of photography. My first picture is THE photospot as it hangs out over the lake- there was a line to take your photo. You’re up? As the person behind you in line to take your photo for you. After spending the day walking around Salem, we hopped back in our rental car and drove around the coast to see what we could see. It was cold and incredibly windy, but it was a lovely day for a little drive. We stopped at Chandler Hovey Park on the tippy tip of an outer peninsula in Marblehead to stretch our legs and enjoy the quiet away from the city and folks. There were plenty of benches for sitting and an old light tower that has stood here since 1895. In the last photo, you can see the view of Boston from Marblehead.
Interlaken yesterday! After the calm and quiet of Grindelwald village, the city felt a bit chaotic before we turned onto our hotel street along the river. Instantly surrounded by green, flowers, and the river. It made for a lovely area to walk to lunch & grocery for dinner, and the views of the mountain were beautiful. To the excitement of my nephew, the train ran nearby across a rail bridge. The East India Square fountain was built in 1976 and is the location of one of my own personal ghost stories. 👻 When I lived in Boston in 2000, my roommates and I drove out to Salem for the day. While we walked around, we stopped to take photos at the fountain. Back then we only had film cameras, so we took turns in groups of two or three to get our photos taken together. An older man in a tank top and shorts came over and asked if we wanted him to take a picture of us, so we agreed. 📷️ Nothing was notable in that moment, but my jaw dropped when I got the pictures developed. In the group photo of the four of us, you can see the same man waving in the background of the photo. But he's the one that TOOK the photo. It is still so bananas to me to this day! 😮 On my recent trip back to Salem, I stopped to take another picture at the fountain. No ghost guys this time! More Salem stuff on the blog!
What I’m absolutely loving about this sisters trip (besides the amazing company of course): - everyone goes with the flow and changes come easily. Nobody complains when something doesn’t go to plan! - everyone has rain gear and is having a great time in spite of weather. We all have an any weather type of adventure mentality! - it’s so green here. Ready for home to get this green as well! We went to Lauterbrunnen today and walked in the rain (rain rain rain) to see all the falls. There are the named falls and then all of the ephemeral falls that are we lucky to see in this season. This is the Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument in Boston Common. When I lived here long ago, there was only grass around the monument. My roommate & I came here on the 4th of July (in the year 2000) to sit and watch fireworks and listen to the sounds of the Boston Pops Orchestra from the Hatch Shell. (Second photo is 20-year-old me that July 4th night) I was gaslit my entire childhood and have blocked out large chunks of my teen years, so remembering things and having those memories validated, being able to revisit and reminisce lovingly is quite priceless to me. And we definitely lucked out with the weather!

I spent a good chunk of vacation time seeking out nature. 🌲🐿️🕊️🦋🌳 It seemed to seek me out too. The squirrels stood to greet me. The pigeons were respectful. Robins said hello. Trees gave me hugs. On my recent trip to Boston and NYC, I wanted to feel like a put-together grown woman. I wanted to be as organized and prepared as possible given all the unknowns (and feel cute doing it). By the time I got to the sign near Supai I was hurting so bad I was shuffling 😭 I was so glad to see the first stretch of blue green waters and the promise that after the village, it's only 2 more miles to the campground. I stopped in the village for a nice, long rest on a bench and a very kind lady who was going to retrieve an elder from the area where the mules drop the bags offered to give me a ride in her Polaris since she was going that way anyway. I very gratefully accepted that kindness! Stepping over the edge... I knew this trail would be a huge challenge for me. I usually limit myself to about 5 to 7 miles per day, and this hike is about 10 rugged miles. I tested my pack ahead of time, thought it was fine, and decided to go. The realization I had as I started down the cliff is that I had not accounted for how much heavier 3 liters of water would make my pack, and I could feel the pressure of that extra weight on my hip muscles immediately and knew it could really be a problem. The Big Cedar Tree in Rockaway Beach, OR is estimated to be 800-1200 years old! 😍 The tree is 50ft in circumference and 154ft tall. Rich says I have to stop booking holidays. Apparently I need to be sensible 🙄 But he’s also said if I pass my viva with no corrections, I can book a last-minute cabin on a very special cruise. This makes it sound like he has some amount of control over which holidays I book which, believe me, he doesn’t! Let’s all cross our fingers and manifest no corrections although, let’s be honest, I’ll probably end up booking that cruise regardless of the outcome. I’m gatekeeping what it is because I don’t want it to sell out! It’s not the world cruise though. I’ve already booked that. Maybe Rich has a point
missing sunsets on Busan beaches☀️✨ If you remember my time in South Korea, I almost always had horrible weather while visiting Busan. My outdoor plans were always getting postponed due to rain, but luckily the sun was shining for my last trip to Busan☀️ I was finally able to do multiple hikes and visit the outdoor spots I had been wanting to visit since I moved there!! One of the top spots on my South Korea Bucket List was this beach!! Today was an adventure of a different sort. Unexpectedly, a friend from North Carolina happened to be flying into Boston and had a few hours to kill before she could check in to her air bnb. I picked her up from the airport and we visited Old South Church, the Boston Public Library, saw the tallest building in Boston, and checked out a couple of local pubs. The last, and only other, time I was in Boston, I was carrying an @ospreypacks, wearing a recently washed but still hiker stinky hiking dress, and trying to bum a ride south to North Carolina. I had just quit my second #appalachiantrail thru hike attempt. I didn’t spend any time here that day, because I quickly found a woman heading to Florida who took me and my stinky gear all the way home. That was in September of 2016. It was cool to come back today and actually spend some time here. I’m not the biggest fan of cities but I have to admit, Boston is kinda beautiful.
