Surrounded by a glorious ocean of bluebells today while on a visual shoot. There’s so much folklore - both dark and whimsical - surrounding these beautiful flowers. One of my favourite tidbits is that the faeries ring them in order to summon one another to a gathering. However, the sweet sound of bluebell chimes is also said to be an ill-fated omen in the ears of human beings. The Tuatha Dé Danann believed the soul was in one's head, so there's no shortage of tales from the Lebor Gabála (the book of Invasions) "an ancient tomb that tells of the occult necromantic skills of the Tuatha." The Dé Danann also had many rites and rituals centered around the head. The heads were valued for their divination and supernatural strength and offered protection against malevolent spirits. They were "gatekeepers into the otherworld, transporting whole groups of people to strange places and times." The Tuatha Dé Danann had a "habit of taking the heads of their most honored friends and leaders," either preserving them or defleshing them and adorning them with jewels and gold. They would preemptively take the head of a fellow fallen soldier, lest it fall into the wrong hands as they also believed one's afterlife could be influenced by the use of their head. These decorated skulls would sit on altars or be used to drink from sacred springs or wells during rituals. There's also tales of heads speaking, giving orders, advising, reciting poetry after being severed from their bodies. - Emerald Isle, 'The Speech of Severed Heads and Gaelic Necromancy' I'm almost certain the heads on these rings don't have those kinds of supernatural powers but they are a fun representation of this fascinating, albeit disturbing ritual of the ancient fairy folk. Each ring features handmade ivy leaves, vines, a knot, 3D skull and an Ocean Jasper cabochon. They'll be available in tmw night's collection release at 8pm EST

Schoolfees - I've found myself almost fully transitioned into genre poetry. Fairies or faeries to be concise and use an archaic spelling thereof. Faery folklore is rich with stories about dancing faeries - a human will be walking through the woods and they’ll come across beautiful beings dancing to the most ethereal music they’ve ever heard. The human will join and will end up swept away to the realm of faery, where they will be encouraged to eat and drink merrily - which, as you may already know, has disastrous consequences. In Irish folklore, it is said the ground ivy protects against faeries, and in one folktale, a young woman is able to flee from the faery realm whilst holding onto a branch of the plant. In another Welsh tale, two men are travelling by wagon when they come across the Tylwyth Teg dancing - one of the men joins - the other tries to convince him to come back, and eventually leaves in annoyance. The man who joined the faeries goes missing for several months - eventually, he is brought back at the request of his friend. He doesn’t realise how much time has gone by, illustrating the different ways that time works in the faery realm. In some stories, the person is brought back from the circle, but gets sick and dies shortly thereafter. The moral of the story: if you happen to see a circle of dancing faeries, turn around and get out of there! The Amanita muscaria recognisable by its vibrant red cap and distinctive white warts, has won a place in the legends and stories of various cultures due to its unmistakable appearance. In the indigenous traditions of Siberia, it’s said how shamans took this Amanita to achieve altered states of consciousness in their ceremonies. These hallucinogenic effects allowed them to ‘travel’ between different worlds, communicate with spirits and receive prophetic visions. Oddly, in some cases, shamans drank the urine of those who had already consumed the Amanita, since, while retaining some psychoactive properties, they believed it to be less toxic.
