From all round auteur Spiegel (From Dusk Till Dawn 2, 99) a life long friend of #samraimi & #brucecampbell : he acted in 'Evil Dead', 81 & scripted 'Evil Dead'. Raimi has a major role in this film, plus Campbell & #tedraimi both make cameo appearances. Thevmovie's co written & produced by Tarentino's regular producer #lawrencebender . Bender & Spiegel & cult actor #alvymoore (The Wild One, 53) also make brief onscreen appearances. Also worthy of note, the film is very well shot by cinematographer #fernandoargüelles with many unusual, innovative camera shots coming from all kinds of odd places & locations. A suitably creepy score from #basilpoledouris. Along with aforementioned well known 'ED' folk Intruder stars #elizabethcox who I didn't rate highly as final girl.Jennifer, #renéeestevez (Of the Sheen / Estevez acting clan) #danhicks #davidbyrnes #eugenerobertglazer #billymarti & #craigstark. While the acting is not a strong point with this movie Raimi & Estevez stand out, above the rest. The film is set (& filmed) in a local supermarket & makes good creative use the usual for a slasher flick location. The film opens with supermarket check out girl Jennifer's ex, an young ex con with a chol on his shoulder, giving her a hard time. He starts a fight. Her colleagues come to her defence, ejecting the ruffian out of the store. No sooner is the drama quelled does the boss annonce the closure of the store & the workers are paid a bonus to stay through the night reprice goods at a 50% reduction & then the crew start to get murdered, leading to up to delightfully unhappy albeit unoriginal ending.1 by 1 in increasingly gory & inventive ways, with some top notch splatter SFX by #burtdavidson. While 'Intruder' is not a masterpiece, it is a entertaining 1 - almost highly recommended.

Inspired by Jonathan Meades’ essay of the same name, in which he muses “whoever would have thought that the last remaining bastion of fundamental Calvinism would become the site of a scrap cult,” Boyd once again goes in search of a representative mixture of the good, the bad and the downright ugly. There are sweeping island vistas here, sure – Storm Approaching the Valtos Peninsular, Lewis, for example, is a spectacular study in contrast as a huge black cloud threatens to envelop a peaceful, sunlit patch of farmland – but for every picture-postcard view, there are three or four images of decay: cars and buses left to rust out in the open; boats and bits of boats slowly disintegrating along the tideline; and multitudinous ruined crofts with rusting corrugated iron roofs. This isn’t ugliness for the sake of it, however. Some of Boyd’s rust pictures – Rusted Bicycle, Bragar, Lewis, for example, in which the handlebars of a child’s bike poke up out of a bog like some strange, alien totem pole – are as aesthetically-pleasing as any of his more conventional landscapes. What he’s aiming for, I think, is simply a degree of honesty. Boyd is an equal opportunities snapper, one who refuses to discriminate based on conventional ideas of what is “worth” photographing and what is not." Sam Raimi defenitly has a better hold on the medium this time around and not a single second is wasted, Once again everything is coming at you, all of the time, and Bruce Campbell, who spends a good chunk of the run time, by himself is putting in one of the most psychically demanding performances ever and nails it. As it happens it’s one year ago to the day thee see I saw this one the big screen at Cultplex, one of my favourite screenings I’ve ever been to. This DIPA is a heavy dank hazy beer, it’s citrus but with soft stone fruits coming through also and bitter pine finish. 37 years ago today, Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead II was released in theaters/drive-ins on March 13, 1987. One of the greatest horror comedy sequels in the late 80s to the original 1981 classic. Technically, it’s a reboot/remake to the original film back when reboots weren’t even a thing in movies, mostly sequels and rarely remakes unlike today. Bruce Campbell always delivers as Ash Williams and awesome special makeup effects by KNB, one of their early projects, along with Mark Shostrom, Tom Sullivan and many others. #SamRaimi directs and also co-writes #DARKMAN starring #LiamNeeson as the scientist #PeytonWestlake who is left for dead by mobsters, but reemerges—heavily disfigured by severe burns and with a raging thirst for revenge. I feel like this is a very overlooked movie and I find it quite curious as to why that is. Stylistically, it’s got the wild and zany antics of Raimi’s trademark direction mixed with a big splash of German expressionism, but it’s also got spectacular action, thrilling sequences and a good story. In some respects, it shares some similarities with Paul Verhoeven’s #ROBOCOP - even down to specific story beats. It’s probably one of my favorite films by Raimi, and it was the first film I ever saw of his when I rented it on VHS and watched it together with my cousin when we were both too young. The score by #DannyElfman is really great and fits the movie’s style perfectly. This #4K #UHD presentation is almost transformative in its clarity, color accuracy and very filmic transfer. This is by far the best this film has ever looked on any home video format. But, inside the cabin lies an ancient book (Necronomicon Ex-Mortis) carrying Sumerian texts and a tape that contains recorded incarnations. As a result of playing the tape, it awakens a demonic entity that begins to terrorize Ash and Linda, as well as other characters who arrive at the cabin. Like the first film, it has supernatural and gory elements, but this time - it’s also incredibly slapstick and over-the-top hilariously silly! The set pieces are executed with an abundance of ingenuity and inventive creativity, and the film has since become a classic and highly esteemed entry in the horror franchise that continues to carry on to this today.
