Thank you all so much for the birthday wishes! ✨️🐦🌻 It has been a very special week! My husband and I jokingly dubbed it my "bird day" because all I wanted was some things for the wild birds. So he got me a bird feeder pole and several different feeders, lots of wild bird food, and suet. There is a bird bath arriving on Monday as well. It really is the gift that keeps on giving, as the birds bring me so much joy. 🥰 This morning I was absolutely thrilled to see a pair of purple finches for the first time ever! We have also been visited by dark-eyed juncos, white crowned sparrows, black-capped chickadees, red-breasted nuthatches, American robins, a crow, and a pileated woodpecker. We moved our 5th wheel trailer last weekend to a different site within the same campground, and I'm still unpacking things and getting us settled. The previous campers left a deck behind, but it was starting to sink and rot. Hubby spent the last three days rebuilding it to make it safe and sturdy. Despite the sound of power tools, the birds were undeterred from feeding and drinking. At one point, we looked up and there were two deer grazing at the site just across from us. So we sat down and just watched them for about 20 minutes. One of the best decisions I ever made was to stop dying my hair. I love my natural hair. For years I tried to fight it. When the gray started showing up in my strawberry blonde hair in my mid 20s, I started dying it dark auburn. I did that for years. In my 40s I decided to stop dying and embrace my natural beautiful silver hair. Most people don’t even realize that it is silver white gray and not blonde. I get compliments on my hair all the time. I am blessed with three beautiful stepdaughters, eight grandchildren, and four special needs dogs. In January 2021, my husband and I left the bustling city of Calgary, Alberta to embrace slow living in British Columbia. For the last three years, our home has been a 5th wheel trailer in a gorgeous campground just outside of the small village of Valemount. One of the earliest written versions of Goldilocks and the Three Bears was authored by Eleanor Mure in 1831. In this version a group of three bear friends get fed up of living in the woods and decide to live in a more civilised human house. When their new neighbour, an elderly woman, calls round to greet them they decline to meet her. The old woman takes offence to this and decides to break into their home, where she eats the food, breaks furniture and generally makes a horrible mess. When the bears return they decide to punish her by burning and drowning her. When these methods fail they fling her on the steeple of St Paul's Cathedral and dance to celebrate. In 1850 Joseph Cundell rewrote the story with a little girl called Silver-Hair, as he thought there were already enough stories featuring old women. ⚘ Wildflowers are a huge passion of mine and I'm currently planning all sorts of spring flower magick! 🌸 I'm quite excited for the dandelions to emerge...YES, that humble flower that is despised as a weed in so many places. 🌼 The whole plant is edible: petals, leaves, stem and roots, and it has both medicinal and magickal properties that appeal to me. Dandelions have so many uses and I have found plenty of ideas in my research! At the moment I'm planning to make dandelion jelly, dandelion hand salve, and dandelion pesto (with the leaves). I recently changed my profile image to this beautiful painting by @maryfeywood 🍃 Ever since I discovered Maartje's art three years ago I have been deeply touched by it. Her paintings of women, animals, and nature echo my own passionate love of the land and animistic views. However, it is Maartje's crone collection that seems to decorate my walls and altars the most often, wise and wild grandmothers fiercely watching over me. These sacred paintings embody the grace and inner radiance that I wish to cultivate within myself as I grow into elderhood. 🌱 Berchta, Cailleach, Baba Yaga, Cerridwen, the old woman who lives in the forest, these are my mentors and guides... 🌳🛖🌲 This spring marks a significant rite of passage for me as I crossed the threshold into post-menopause. My wise blood remains within me now, initiating me into a new phase of creativity and growth as a crone. 🩸🌘 Though my own grey hair has yet to appear, I am excited to enter this phase of my journey. In a society that doesn't often look kindly at the elderly and especially aging women, I have found role models and inspiration in art like Maartje's, as well as in the writings of Clarissa Pinkola Estés, Sharon Blackie, Danielle Dulsky and Caitlin Johnson. So this morning I recorded a #GRWM video to announce some changes at LSIAC (hold for the ☕️; it’s not ready yet) and while I was talking, I went on an ADD detour (that I will cut) and realized I’ve only had TWO significant others that ever came to one of my sound baths (or any shows period). Most recently, he was the most emotionally violent person in my romantic history 🙃 like how is the meanest person I’ve ever invited into my family also the only one that publicly supported me the most?! The other was 7 years ago. Before that, only when I was Miss Michigan. And then I got sad. And then I was like wait — AM I ANNOYING AND I DONT KNOW IT?! AM I THE WORST PERSON BC HOW DO I HAVE SHOWS AND NEVER A BF IN THE AUDIENCE?! And then I shook it off. And now I’m like: 🗣️ HEY ME, I’m SO CUTE. And I’m SO SMART. And I’m an AWESOME MOM. And I’m a GOOD FRIEND. And I work REALLY HARD. And I AM FUN AAAAND FUNNY. And I’m REALLY TALENTED. And I’m REALLY levelheaded and emotionally intelligent. And I’m kind. And I advocate for people. And I’m optimistic. And I’m loving. And that’s more than enough. Maybe too much for a lot of people. Ok, most people. Here I am ✨ It’s even more rare that I leave the house on a weekend (introvert mode)but Danny surprised me with a trip; all he told me was that I may wanna wear my doc martens. Turned out to be @restinpiecesrva a cool, little oddities shop I didn’t know existed. 🖤 I wasn’t sure if they allowed pics and I didn’t have the energy to ask, so I didn’t take any 😜 If you’re ever in the area, it’s totally worth a stop! It’s got Victorian parlor vibes with lots of taxidermy, stones, bones, feathers, decks, & oddities, like specimens and such. They even have a full human skeleton that was gifted to them (not for sale). 🖤 I’ve always wanted one of these rose of Jericho plants, so I snagged these. The horn was from…I don’t remember…maybe if they see this they can remind me 🙏 I liked that it stands upright & reminds me of a spiral tower & smells like a witchy shop. It’ll be for the Witch Father, methinks. Astrology Notes for Feb 18 2024 Today, when I drew my daily tarot cards, I pick one card from two different decks, one is the Ryder Waite (Pamala Colman) and the other is the Mary El Deck, I managed to pick the 7 of swords in both decks. When stuff like that happens I think the invisibles are pounding a message home. But what is is? Beware of thieves? Beware of manipulators? Play with your cards close to your vest? #Repost @cathirae ・・・ I’m off next week for a routine mammogram ( so this picture seems appropriate)...but it got me thinking about health and the random unfairness of the privilege of good health... I’ve never really treated my body as a temple...more a bus shelter in an industrial estate 😆 But somehow I’ve got into my 60’s with robust good health...and of course it’s not fair...my good health is not based on making good decisions... careful eating...an exercise regime...it’s something I’ve been able to take for granted...and as I age I understand more and more that being in this place is a huge and unearned privilege... But somehow we look for blame when people become ill...we criticize them...see it as some sort of judgement.. When a friend of mine was sick with a particularly unpleasant breast cancer we used to joke (because sometimes joking is all you have) that if anyone should be in that situation...well I was a much better contender... The UK government is currently making it very difficult indeed for ill and disabled people to access benefits to live lives of basic decency...part of a trend to blame individuals who become sick...to put value judgements on illness and disability... If today you are well... able to go about your day easily and without fear..be grateful my tiny corner of Instagram...
