Slowing down, seeing more… Back from three days camping with the kids at Wilsons Prom on Boonwurrung, Bunurong and Gunaikurnai Country. Moments of frantic, frenzy, tantrums, demands, frustration of course .. but also moments of wonder, joy, discovery and exploration. My 7yo’s empathy for a limping duck and her determination that we not ignore it. Her delight when a rosella landed on her head! My 2yo’s smile when he saw wombats and wallabies on our dusk and dawn walks. His fascination with every individual element of the whole and his blooming awareness of nature and his place in it. These three photos were taken while rambling along the Tidal River estuary mid morning, walking so much slower than I ever would alone, stopping so he could push his fingers into the sand, wiggle his toes in the water, point out the rocks and count the clouds. My previous post was the video I took from the top of Giants Leap in Sandy Hollow. This post is a photographic story of the climb itself. When we started out it seemed ok. At what they said was the halfway point (more like a third of the way) I had begun to get a bit concerned with the difficulty of the climb. But Myron wanted to keep going, and, I will admit, I was sure the view from the top would be worth it. So we kept climbing. About two thirds up, a rock scramble had me frozen in place, unable to figure out how to get up, or down. I burst into tears, and had to trust Myron to drag me up. Once I was up, the panic attack hit. Thankfully, Myron again knew just what to do to get my breathing under control. After I recovered, we continued up. Glad to say there were no more rock faces for me to get stuck on! By the time we got to the top I was knackered, but the view!! Well, you would have seen it on my last post. This was the most difficult walk we've done yet. My favourite adventure was Mackeys Peak for sure, it’s one of the closest peaks seen from central Halls Gap - amazing rocks and views! I have done a lot of solo travelling and many people applaud me for my independence, the truth is I don’t want to travel alone. I only do so because I am forced to choose between going or waiting on others to decide what they want to do.
