John Standing in “Rogue Male”, a 1976 British television film starring Peter O’Toole. Style note: household name Geoffrey Edward West Household (30th November 1900 – 4th October 1988) was a prolific British novelist who specialised in thrillers. He is best known for his novel Rogue Male (1939). He was born in Bristol; his father Horace was a barrister. Household was educated at Clifton College, Bristol (1914–1919), and at Magdalen College, Oxford, from which he received a B.A. in English literature in 1922. He became an assistant confidential secretary for Bank of Romania, in Bucharest (1922–1926). In 1926 he went to Spain, where he worked selling bananas as a marketing manager for the United Fruit Company (Elders and Fyffes). In 1929 Household moved to the United States where he wrote for children’s encyclopedias and composed children’s radio plays for the Columbia Broadcasting System. From 1933 to 1939 he was a traveling salesman for John Kidd, a manufacturer of printing ink, in Europe, the Middle East and South America. He served in British Intelligence during World War II in Romania, Greece and the Middle East. After the War he lived the life of a country gentleman and wrote. In his later years, he lived in Charlton, near Banbury, Oxfordshire, and died in Wardington on 4 October 1988, aged 87. The typical Household hero was a strong, capable Englishman with a high sense of honour which bound him to a certain course of action. He described himself, in terms of his writing, as “sort of a bastard by Stevenson out of Conrad ... If I asked you what James Bond's first car was, you might say the DB5. And you'd be right, but only half. You see, the Aston Martin DB5 was one of the more iconic Bond's car in the "films", first appearing in "Goldfinger" (1964) - 3rd film, 7th book . Since Mr. Fleming was British, and so was Commander Bond, it is no surprise that he would drive a British car . The first mention of Bond's car was in "Casino Royale", the very first book in Ian Fleming's spy series; "Casino Royale" was the 21st Bond film . I got my copy of the book off the shelf and snap a shot for you. Chapter 5, for the inquisitives among you. At any rate, the car mentioned is the Blower Bentley 4½L, the race variant of the Bentley 4½L, in case you want to read up on it . He shares that something massive will cause Harry and Eggsy to need one another again. When discussing Eggsy's growth as a character and finding a purpose with the Kingsman, Vaughn revealed: Screen Rant: Are you excited to bring that Eggsy and Harry arc to a close? Because I've loved how we've seen Eggsy grow from this rebellious punk kid into someone that's built a family and found a purpose. Matthew Vaughn: Yes, yes. Imagine if that purpose disappears, is all I'll say. Yeah, the two of them need each other one more time. If Eggsy has found his purpose with the Kingsman, it seems that Vaughn may be teasing the destruction of the Kingsman agency. Although that was nearly accomplished in Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Eggsy and Merlin managed to survive and find help from the Statesman. How exactly Eggsy's purpose disappears is still unclear, but it likely means something bad happens to the agency. This could also be tied into "The Blue Blood" in the Kingsman: The Blue Blood title, potentially tying back to the very aristocracy that began the Kingsman agency in the first place. Harry has been a hugely important part of Eggsy's journey, first helping him find his way when he recruited him to the Kingsman. After his apparent death, he became someone Eggsy worked hard to honor, and after learning Harry was actually alive, Eggsy returned the favor of being there for his former mentor. The Traitor by Ava Glass Alias Emma #2 ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Book #42/100 Netgalley e-ARC Publishing date: September 19, 2023 This was my first Ava Glass novel. I didn't realize that Alias Emma was the first book in this series and haven't read it yet. I assume I didn't miss anything that was needed for this novel. At least, it didn't feel like I missed anything. I have always been fascinated by spies and the work they do, the risk they take to do their jobs, but I for sure would never want that job. Emma Makepeace is a spy working to bring down a group that's dealing in chemical weapons and hopes to prevent the deaths of thousands while risking her own life on a yacht in the middle of the ocean. If that isn't terrifying enough, she has to sneak/steal another person's phone to communicate with her agency since her phone was confiscated. She has to sneak around without anyone finding her or suspecting her to get the info she needs... but Andrei's "bodyguard" Grogan hasn't trusted her from the moment she stepped on the yacht, and he has let it be known every chance he gets. Things go wrong, and don't go as planned, then Emma finds out someone within her agency is a mole and working with the very dangerous men she's trying to bring down, bringing her mission to an end. I guessed who the mole was but was still shocked when it was finally revealed. The betrayal by someone you trust is never an easy pill to swallow, especially when your job is so secretive that those in your own family can't know what you do for a living and requires you to lie about your life. Oppenheimer... Directed by THE Christopher Nolan, Oppenheimer stays in your mind well after the three hours of the movie. It's a Biography of J. Robert Oppenheimer( Cilian Murphy) , AKA Oppie AKA The Father of the Atomic Bomb. As biographies go, it's interesting .. describing his College shenigans, his travels and his work.. and of course The Manhattan Project. At Los Alomos, Arizona, the US military , under the leadership of Oppenheimer, created the Atomic bomb. The target was originally to reign in the Nazis, but the 'Trinity' bomb design was ultimately used in the Japanese , in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Murphy, as the lead protagonist, is very underplayed. A chain smoker, and a complicated character Oppenheimer is seen as a thinker and a doer. And cilian murphy does full justice. From 25 to 65 , you see him ageing , not only physically, but intellectually and as a person. His internal conflict in his Frankenstein creation is shown and one can clearly see it, in many scenes! Oppenheimer's adversary in the movie is Leslie Strauss , superbly played by Robert Downey Jr. Why Strauss hates Oppenheimer is probably as complicated as complicated as the Bomb itself! Without revealing much ( fruitless exercise, since there are so many internet articles dedicated to the movie) , this intrigue is a lesson in politics and science and human nature. Downey brings so much life to his character! Christopher Nolan has done a trilogy of Batman movies , Inception ,Interstellar , Tenet ( which i didn't understand frankly) and many other super movies, but this one is better than all i feel . Not making it about Fx but about the people is the Gamechanger The movie is both in black and white , where the facts are objective to the audience, and in color , which are subjective . When you do a which research the movie is true to history. The only thing that's missing is Oppenheimer's link to Hinduism. His famous quote “Now I have become Death, the Destroyer Of Worlds,”is not even acknowledged as from the Gita.
