NWA!!! What a machine... Let me start by saying this is all my buddy @f1ptb 's fault! 😜 I am since a while contemplating @maxbusser 's HM creations. A long time before I acquired a Legacy Machine but I never quite found the HM that fitted me, a machine I would really wear and not only admire. Earlier this year I had the pleasure to try @f1ptb 's HM6 final edition and from that moment on I knew the HM6 was the one for me. The fit is amazing, it sits on my (rather small) wrist so perfectly and comfortably. I also find it quite thin. It' s a spaceship, an art piece and it happens to quite nicely tell the time as well. Oh and this is actually my first tourbillon in the collection. A complication, I'm not specifically a fan of, but in this case it's about the whole design of this art piece. It's the engine powering the spaceship. And the feature of the dome to cover the tourbillon, fantastic! I also feel very connected to the inspiration coming from the anime "Capitaine Flam" . Not that I specifically grew up watching it, as it's from 1978 and I was born a few years later, so I was watching the animes of the 80's/90's on Club Dorothée. But anime and manga was a big passion during my youth. When I was 20 years old "Initial D" got me starting to drift (if you like cars, check that anime 😉) The search for an HM6 could have taken years, a final edition of which there are 8 is quite impossible to find, the titanium's are sometimes for sale but like I always say some watches choose me and when I first enquired at the MAD gallery, they told me it's very rare they get one in. The next day I walked by again and @herve_mad tells me he just received one... That's the whole universe aligning telling me the rose gold HM6 is the one for me! Right place, right time. In the world of horology, where timepieces are not merely tools but intricate works of art, the finishing of a movement often serves as the hallmark of craftsmanship and prestige. Nowhere is this more evident than in the renowned Unitas movements, where the meticulous application of various finishing techniques elevates both the aesthetic allure and intrinsic value of each watch. 1. Stowa : here you get to see the standard côtes de genève on the bridges with swan neck regulator, screw balance and gold engraving! 2. Antoine Tavan : frames around the bridges, screws, mainspring and jewels (engraved down & sand blasted) not only adds contrast but also to remove sharp edges. Notice there are ‘bevelling’ on the jewels to give depth and details to the looks. 3. D. Dornblüth & Sohn : 3/4 of the bridge is ‘plated’ to add aesthetic. On this movement you will see gradual improvement on finishing like hand engravings on the balance bridge. Notice the ‘snailing’ on the ratchet & winding wheels. 4. ketelaars3dterrainmotion : ‘sand blasted’ finishing on the bridges with ‘anglage’ on each jewels and ‘polished’ screws which makes them stand out and show case the finishing. 5. felipepekullik : here is a good example of another type of ‘plating’ if not blasted? Notice that the main plate and bridges has been cut to have more angles. The more angles on a movement the more difficult is it to ‘decorate’ the movement. The purpose of these is to showcase the skilled finishing of the artisans and it takes hundreds of hours! 6. Laine GG3: here the final example we have is the Laine GG3 which has a few different finishes. Needless to say the more time spent on quality finishing the more expensive the watch gets. The ‘snailing’ on the Laine is refined and precise. Even the bevelling/anglage are more refined than others. ‘Black polished’ on the balance bridge is of extremely high finishing and it can only be done by hand and very time consuming.
