I like to introduce a new segment I like to call: Tire Testing with Mike Running shoes are like tires. Their use can be for a multitude of things depending on the need or effort. Some of my favorite shoes that I’ve worn are shoes that are multipurpose. Different efforts require different tires. These are phenomenal all around shoes. Shoe: @altrarunning Men’s Experience Flow!!! Ride: We are rocking with a smooth ride with quality comfort. This shoe has a 4mm drop & a roomy toe box. My toes need that room boxes because I tend to blister on the outside of my pinky. If you have had that issue in with other shoes, I’d explore this option. Use: Everyday use. Easy runs, longer efforts since there is so much comfort packed into this shoe. Terrain: I tested these on pavement for some easy miles in downtown Austin, on the town lake trail trails, to some light effort track work on the east side. Great all around! Thank you Blink-182 for pacing me through those speed intervals baby 💨😮💨 🤘🏼 🎶 Let me tell ya 12x30” on/off (30 second jog in between intervals) is NOT as easy as it sounds when ya ass been out of the speed game for a minute. Truly a beautiful introduction getting back to it! Paces were mostly out of effort. Not all out sprint but harder effort and making sure those legs are getting that turn over feeling again. Had to run the first half on concrete too 😬 so will be changing that up for the next workouts. I don’t have a 5K goal time yet. I think I’ll have to time a two miler to get an estimate 🫣 but once I have a number in mind and the workouts get longer, I’ll start working on pacing to that. 🤗 PS: first selfie was for sure pre-workout. The Austin Running Community™️ This past Sunday was a celebration of all of those people who make it special 2 years ago I made a bet. A BIG bet that paid off big. I followed my gut and decided to take the steps to move to Austin. Always bet big on yourself. If you fail, you’ll learn something about yourself. It’s crazy to say it’s almost been a year here in Austin. The relationships I’ve made here I’ll be forever grateful for. My goal moving down here has been this. Community to me seems like a buzz word at the moment. I don’t think anyone can tell you what it actually is. However, what it is to me is about relationship building. GENUINE relationships. Not exchanged based. Those are empty, filled with unfulfilling things that don’t even matter at the end of the day. My goal was to double down on those relationships. A Early Reflection into 2024: Doing it for the right reasons. Starting with yourself. Social media’s ability to connect is astounding. Back in 2020 the @project.endure online community was a place where I first connected with people who wanted to challenge themselves. In things that they wanted to do. They enjoyed the process & you can tell about the genuine care they had for their goals. It’s a dangerous thing to do something for the sake of notice. It brings you down of path of losing your true identity. I’ve definitely been victim to that at some point of my life. SUNDAY TRAIL RUN!! This week we'll be headed to Slaughter Creek Trail starting at 8:00 am. This will be an all-faces, all-paces event! Slaughter Creek Trail is located in southwest Austin at 9901 FM 1826 Austin, TX This entrance can be easily missed if you're not looking closely enough - be on the lookout for the gate on the left 1.5 miles down farm road 1826 from 290. Parking is a bit limited please be there on time to ensure a spot. Slaughter Creek is a beautiful single track 5 mile loop with a cutoff for a shorter 3 mile loop option. This trail and cutoff allow us to easily have multiple mileage options if you care to head out for any additional loops beyond the first one. There is NO WATER available on the trail so PLEASE BRING WATER WITH YOU! There are also a few portapotties on-site but this is otherwise a self-supported, primitive trail location. Fleetfeet Mizuno/Oofos run! Todays gonna be a great day so gotta start it off with some great people 🫶🏾 Also I tired a Mizuno for the first time 👀and I have some opinions on it for sure. So I ran in the Wave Rebellion Pro 2 around lady bird and have only one mixed review, but overall very positive. Where on one side it felt rather awkward on the loose gravel but that’s too be expected, HOWEVER on the sidewalk, bridges, concrete, and street it was explosive 🧨 that carbon plate felt great on those terrains, had a good amount of cushion too, and very lightweight! Whew! We did a back to back New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day run 😮💨 Sunday morning, we had our normal run/walk held at @thevegannom. This was the perfect place to have our last run/walk of the year.
