My goal today was to get to the summit, and I made it. This was one of the toughest rides I’ve ever done. I thought that once I got to the TOP, it would be smooth sailing to the bottom, and boy was I wrong 💥💥 Coming down the mountain in parts, scared me to death 💀 very narrow trails and tons of places to get in serious trouble. Day one of the @bigmountainenduro races, presented by @iamspecialized_mtb, started with racers riding two new raw-cut trails on Apache Peak for stages one and two. Racers then completed the day with stage three on "Fungus" and "Lower Fungus" on Sunrise Peak. The races continue Sunday with four more stages, including one raw cut trail on Apache Peak and 10 different connecting trails on Sunrise Peak. . More photos are available on our Facebook page. . Spectators will be allowed at Sunrise Base area and around Sunrise Peak (scenic lift rides and hiking will be available to watch the racers). All Sunrise Base Area activities will also be available (zip line, airbag jump, tubing hill, rock climbing wall, 3D archery, etc.) and dining at the Crown Dancer Café (lunch), Sunrise Pub/Day Lodge (breakfast and lunch), and Eagle's Nest (lunch) on Sunrise Peak. Mountain Biking will be limited to participants only on June 10-11. Checking out the #maricopatrail in the Arizona desert with beautiful yellow flowers all around! I was looking forward to warmer weather since it has been really cold in Colorado this winter, and Arizona delivered today with temps in the 90’s! On a personal note, I ticked over 2,000 miles today, which for me, is a huge accomplishment this early in the year as I’m trying to build my endurance for some 100 mile gravel races this season. Once I return from this vacation, I plan to get into more guided training as I hired a coach(!)… @mathenyendurance I’ll share more about this and my reasons and progress in future posts for those that might be interested in this evolving journey of cycling that I’m on. We haven’t been on a good long bike ride in awhile so we thought The Oro Valley/Tucson Loop Bike Path would be a good place to get those wheels moving. With over 130 car free miles with all kinds of scenery it is one of the greatest bike paths in the US! We rode right from Catalina State Park, where we are camping and got in about 36 miles total. With so much more to explore, we might have to give it a go again before we leave! Get out and ride…

Biking/engagement day🤯 Say what?! Nice surprise today for sure! We started our bike ride, we decided to do the same loop we did in November just the opposite direction so we were going to ride through downtown Scottsdale first. As we were getting near the area, Rich says “Let’s stop at that bridge”. We get there and he’s like “let’s get a pic together”. I said great but there’s nowhere for me to set up my phone. There were two random people at the bridge taking pics of each other and Rich says I’ll ask them… little did I know they were his hired photographers and he then proposed to me right at the bridge🥹 I am a hard one to surprise and it was perfect- I’m like wait, what- you guys are here for us?!🤣 The ring story- back in November when we were down here the first day was raining and crappy so we had headed to Old town Scottsdale to go through the shops. We came across a jewelry store and Rich says “Let’s go in- just to look”😉 ok… we looked- I then saw this ring before we were ready to leave and he’s like oh try it on- I’m like nah it’s ok- well the lady of course pulls it out and makes me put it on- it fits perfect and it’s the most beautiful ring ever! It’s unique, different, and not your average “engagement ring” style- which made me love it even more honestly. It’s tourmaline in the middle and diamonds around. Well he of course called the shop a few days after we were back home and got his dibs on it for me 😁 This year will be 7 years together already- so hard to believe! Time flies when you are having fun, right! We have done so much together and I love sharing this life adventure with you Rich!❤️And here’s to many more years together! 😁 Oh…. And the bike ride today was fun as always! A little chilly start today and it was pretty windy as well but I know I’m not gonna get any sympathy from everyone back home on that one😉🤣 And the oranges are in season and yummy here!🍊😂

Riding with the Dirty Dozen.... ...and a moment after I shot this picture the biker on the right was collapsed on the ground....fortunately un-injured, but convulsed in a fit of laughter. It turned out that the shooter, on this rare occasion, was firing blancs. Race recap continued! Onto the… Bike: I was happy to be out of the water and quickly regained the feeling in my toes after losing them during transition! The first lap went well and my legs felt strong. The headwind was strong making the “uphill” feel steeper than anticipated but I kept reminding myself I thrive on hills and I held power as planned. I continued to feel good on the second lap and was happy to hear I was moving up in the standings. Third lap got a little tough and my power dropped some but at that point I was almost to the run so stayed positive and just kept moving forward! After butchering my nutrition in Lake Placid, my primary goal for this bike was to nail nutrition and set myself up for a good run. This was my highest average Ironman power to date and I know there is still a lot of work to be done (ie not fading 😂). I finished the bike having moved up into 7th place, so I had some work to do on the run!
