Quella che è chiamata guerra, per noi non è chiamata così, noi la definiamo in un modo o nell'altro peggio...(l'inferno) Qui non ci sono regole ma, per sopravvivere devi fare solo una cosa uccidere il nemico, non esitare perchè altrimenti sarà lui che lo farà. Molti amici miei sono stati uccisi e pochi di quelli rimasti impazziscono e cercano in ogni modo di resistere fino all'ultimo. Le munizioni scarseggiano, le provviste idem e gli approvvigionamenti non arrivano da 1 settimana. Il comando non lo sa dove siamo, almeno non sa se siamo ancora tutti vivi. La battaglia di Carentan fu un combattimento militare avvenuto tra il 10 e il 15 giugno 1944, pochi giorni dopo lo sbarco in Normandia durante la seconda guerra mondiale. Nel corso della battaglia le truppe statunitensi conquistarono il villaggio di Carentan, crocevia fondamentale per le vie di trasporto in Normandia, ancora in mano tedesca. Non ho idea se riuscirò a vedere Parigi "la città delle luci"...molti dei miei amici dicono che conquistata poi torneremo a casa... magari vorrei dire lo stesso. l'offensiva delle Ardenne non fu un successo immediato. Le condizioni meteorologiche erano peggiori, l'aviazione alleata era molto più potente e le scorte di carburante tedesche scarseggiavano. Il 23 dicembre il tempo cominciò a schiarirsi. A metà gennaio 1945 la mancanza di carburante costrinse i tedeschi ad abbandonare i loro veicoli, il che fu fatale per le ambizioni di Hitler. Il 25 gennaio 1945 la battaglia era finita. La battaglia del Bulge fu l'operazione più costosa mai combattuta dall'esercito americano: 10.733 soldati americani furono uccisi e 42.316 feriti. Le perdite tedesche ammontarono a 12.652 morti e 38.600 feriti. Il villaggio di Sainte-Marie-du-Mont fu occupato da sessanta soldati tedeschi del 191° reggimento di artiglieria (91. Divisione di fanteria). I tedeschi usavano il campanile della chiesa come punto di osservazione e nelle giornate limpide potevano vedere fino al mare. Lontani da un'invasione prevista vicino a Calais, non sapevano che il villaggio si trovava all'estremità meridionale della "zona di lancio c" del D-Day. Dopo un pesante bombardamento costiero da parte degli Alleati subito dopo la mezzanotte del 6 giugno 1944, i primi paracadutisti americani furono sganciati nelle prime ore buie sulla Normandia occupata. I piani prevedevano che le truppe del 506° reggimento di fanteria paracadutisti e del 3° battaglione del 501° reggimento di fanteria paracadutisti della 101a divisione aviotrasportata atterrassero nella "zona c". Operazione Market Garden fu il nome in codice assegnato dai comandi Alleati, durante la seconda guerra mondiale, a un'operazione militare in Olanda che aveva l'obiettivo di conquistare e controllare cinque ponti, uno in fila all'altro. All'ultimo ponte le truppe di Montgomery si trovarono però bloccate da una divisione corazzata tedesca che si trovava lì praticamente per puro caso. Poiché per la riuscita dell'operazione quattro ponti non bastavano, il piano fallì. L'obiettivo era quello di attraversare di sorpresa il Reno con le truppe alleate arrivate in Europa in seguito allo sbarco in Normandia, avanzando poi direttamente sul suolo tedesco e sulla vitale regione industriale della Ruhr, allo scopo di provocare un crollo definitivo del nemico e concludere la guerra entro il Natale del 1944. Benjamin J. Stoney, 101e Airborne, 2e bataljon 506e PIR. Paratroopers van het 2/506 PIR kwamen in de nacht van 6 juni 1944 neer dicht bij het dorp Vierville. Op een gegeven moment springt Benjamin uit een greppel met zijn Tommygun op zijn heup en schiet meerdere magazijnen leeg op het MG nest, hij raakt zelf ernstig gewond tijdens deze actie, en komt om het leven. Captain Ronald C. Speirs was the leader of Dog Company in the 2nd Battalion, 506th PIR of the 101st Airborne. His unit was absorbed into Easy Company during Bastogne and he was assigned as Company Commander after relieving 1st Lieutenant Dike of duty during the assault on Foy, Belgium. Ronald Speirs was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on 20 April 1920 and later emigrated to Boston, Massachusetts on 26 December 1924. He then went through military training in high school and eventually made 2nd Lieutenant. Speirs joined the Paratroopers and was assigned to Baker Company, at Camp Toccoa. He was later transferred to Dog Company. Speirs, his unit and Easy Company eventually dropped into Normandy on 6 June 1944. During the Normandy Campaign, Speirs was wounded by a German M24 grenade in the face and knee. He recovered and returned to Dog Company. He then jumped into Holland on 17 September. Today i want to show you my original US m2 d-bale helmet. The helmet is in a exceptional condition and has a nice patina. The helmet has a matching wetsinghouse liner with the rank of 2nd lieutenant painted to the front, and also a name inside and on the chinstrap. The d bales broke off at some point wich was very common for this helmets, the bales are peroid time re-attached. German Gewehr 43 magazine dug up in the Ardennes forest. it was on the same spot as where i found the m42 helmet and k98 bayonet From 1943 until the end of the war, some 450,000 of these rifles were produced. About 50,000 of these weapons were equipped with a telescopic sight and provided to snipers. The intended production of 100,000 weapons per month was never achieved. Despite the low production numbers, the robustness and precision of the weapon made it very popular. In addition to the visor, other accessories could be applied to the weapon. The Gewehr 43 was a semi-automatic gas-pressure rifle with a caliber of 7.92 x 57mm. A rapid-fire capability was originally also planned, but was only carried out as a prototype. The warehouse could contain ten cartridges. In gewehr 43 elements of the Russian Tokarev SVT-40 were used.
