Giving birth Someone once told me each piece I made was my child. The act of collecting, preparing, and bringing this seed to life is a birth. I have nurtured these visions for as long as I can remember and when each one finds a home I am happy to release them but also feel a slight tug in my heart as a piece of me is gone. I've found some joy exploring Italian American architect, sculptor, painter, and WWII vet, Gerard Francis Tempest (1918-2009). Having studied under Giorgio di Chirico early on, Gerard developed an approach to painting which he called "abstract spiritualism," by which he focused his efforts on the energy of light and the roll of this energy as the "binding power of the unknowable." 🥰👍 As an architect, who ultimately settled in NC, Tempest designed the Villa Tempest in Chapel Hill, which is now an antique store--they don't reference Tempest on their website. I'll have another post on on this at some point. I bought this 1st ed 1973 book for $12. To my pleasant surprise it is signed (twice) by Tempest and has a penciled-in list price of $200. This book was gifted from Tempest to NC architect James Fitzgibbon, who'd co-founded Synergetics, Inc with Buckminster Fuller.
