M I N D // Don’t believe everything you overthink! One of my teachers once asked me in a deep meditation who I was outwith my labels. I was so surprised by my reply,“ I am pure love, I am peace. I am a divine creation of nature. “ Just like that, the words tumbled out of my mouth like I’d always known it to be true. Underneath the weight of all of my labels and identity the truth lay in my heart. I am love. I am peace. I am a divine creation of nature. Wow! It’s harder not to forgive yourself, love yourself and look after yourself when your heart speaks to you like that. This realisation led me to read and meditate more on who we think we are and how the thinking of that holds us back. I read that landscape painting is perhaps the most dramatic and immediate form of the Taoist spiritual practice of merging one’s consciousness with the landscape and Cosmos. One can observe that the human element in these paintings is almost always small and well-integrated into the landscape, or there is no trace of the human at all. The lack of perspective makes the viewer feel somehow inside the work’s cosmology and able to wander there, rather than being a center of identity looking at the landscape from a single viewpoint outside the painting. The more I connect with Dao flowing through my heart, the more immersive my time in nature becomes. Rather than sitting with the morning sky, it’s like I disappear. I don’t just see the sun, I become the warmth of the sun, the passing clouds in the sky, I am the expansive, vast blue sky above. The breath that I breathe begins to breaths me. Nothing for me to do, to try harder at, to observe, to control, no right or wrong way, it just breaths me. I am. I am. I am. High Blood Pressure and Chinese Medicine High blood pressure results from inflammation of the inner walls of arteries. Once the artery is inflamed, the endothelial lining becomes swollen and narrows the artery. Blood cannot pass through as easily and the heart has work harder to push blood through. This causes high blood pressure. A lifestyle of smoking, too much alcohol, lack of sleep, stress, working long hours, emotional stress, being inside for a long time, lack of exercise, a poor diet, and a reversed circadian rhythm can all cause high blood pressure. Fatty, greasy, deep fried and processed foods can hurt our bodies over time. The stress accumulates in our internal organs, tissues, and arteries. Prescription drugs can treat high blood pressure and help people begin the return to a healthy condition. This medicine can lower the blood pressure when it is dangerously high. It can save a person’s life in the short term. But medication should not be a long-term solution. In the medium term, a taoist healer will prescribe acupuncture or herbs for high blood pressure to reduce the stress hormone (which can cause the arteries to contract). In the long-term, we need to remove the toxins from the body and adhere to a healthy lifestyle. A healthy lifestyle includes the opposite of activities listed as unhealthy in the second paragraph. To be healthier, make it a point to smoke less, drink less, work less, walk/exercise more, eat healthier, and sleep with natural cycles of day and night. Don’t get overwhelmed, just focus on making small changes at first. 10% less smoking and drinking. 10% more sleep. Spend 10% less and work 10% less. The Tao is close, but everyone looks far away. My path back to wholeness was so dark, for so long. It took me much longer than I expected to find my true self, release the pain I was carrying, and get on the path I was created to be on- but I’m here. God got me here. I asked Him, and He delivered. What is emptiness? Boşluk nedir? The heart (xin, 心) in Chinese philosophy and medicine is more than a physical organ; it's the ruler of the body and the source of communication and connection. The character for heart (心) with its bowl-like shape represents its capacity to contain and its short lines symbolize its outward movement. The art of the heart 💓 lies in its ability to empty itself, embracing life's fullness. Emptying the heart means letting go of fears and limitations, creating space for creativity and growth. Cultivating emptiness brings wisdom, compassion, and harmony. Take a moment and listen to your heart. Feel its steady rhythm, its constant emptying and filling. Allow yourself to release what no longer serves you and and trust in the endless possibilities that arise. As Lao Zi says in Dao De Jing, "Attain to utmost emptiness. IMAGINING MYSTERY There is something that contains everything. Before heaven and earth it is. Oh, it is still, unbodied, all on its own, unchanging. all-pervading, ever-moving. So it can act as the mother of all things. Not knowing its real name, we only call it the Way. If it must be named, let its name be Great. Greatness means going on, going on means going far, and going far means turning back. So they say: “The Way is great, heaven is great, earth is great, and humankind is great; four greatnesses in the world, and humanity is one of them.” People follow earth, earth follows heaven, heaven follows the Way, the Way follows what is. Note UKLG: I’d like to call the “something” of the first line a lump — an unshaped, undifferentiated lump, chaos, before the Word, before Form, before Change. Inside it is time, space, everything; in the womb of the Way. The last words of the chapter, tzu jan, I render as “what is.” I was tempted to say, “The Way follows itself,” because the Way is the way things are; but that would reduce the significance of the words. They remind us not to see the Way as a sovereignty or a domination, all creative, all yang. The Way itself is a follower. Though it is before everything, it follows what is.
