How do I know what program is best for me?! The answer is not always straightforward! It’s easy to want to apply to that top program. However, if you have elements in your record that may need further clarification ( i.e- gap years, non competitive gpa, multiple MCAT attempts) you may want to consider applying broad or being strategic when applying. This could mean considering a program out of state.. or one even out of the country 🫣. A little intimidating, yes! However, getting to where you need to be takes sacrifice. It could also mean applying to a program that’s way at the bottom of your list or one most people don’t know of. I’ve always found God has a funny way of putting us in places to teach us lessons we could not have learned otherwise. And wherever we end up, He uses it for our good. hi everyone! it's been awhile since i last posted. the last couple of months i've been busy with finishing my classes and preparing for my internship. i am hoping to be more active and post updates throughout my internship this summer! i wanted to share this really cool growth that was excised from a patient's thigh back in january! this growth is called a lipoma, which is a commonly diagnosed benign tumor made up of fat. that is why this growth is yellow, since it's a pure ball of fat. lipomas are usually small, however this lipoma was quite large! since lipomas are benign (noncancerous), it is not necessary to remove them, however many patients find them bothersome and opt to surgically remove them. lipomas can be found anywhere on the body, but more commonly on the neck, back, arms, thighs, and abdomen. lipomas are diagnosed usually through physical examination (soft, doughy feel and mobile) or imaging (CT, MRI, etc.). interestingly, lipomas tend to run in families! lipomas are usually not painful and usually do not grow fast. despite its benign nature, it is always recommended to consult with a dermatologist for their opinion on any subcutaneous growth, since they are found UNDER the skin, and can't be diagnosed with 100% certainty unless excised! there is a type of growth called a liposarcoma, which is a cancerous tumor that, similarly to lipomas, develops in the fat cells. liposarcomas tend to develop deeper in the tissues, while lipomas are more superficial, however it is important to see a dermatologist to rule out any malignancies, especially if it is painful or fast-growing! #premed #medicalschool #premedmotivation #fsu #medstudent #prehealth #premedblog #mcat #premedadvice #futuremd #futuredoctor #studentdoctor #dermatology #medicalassistant #studyinspo #scrublife #lipoma

At first, it was just a passing wave of nervousness but as the days progressed it became more pronounced and I had to take a moment to: 1) 🎯 Name it - Anxiety + fear 2) 📝 Revisit my to-do list and meet with my school advisor 3) 🙏🏾 pray about it. • I feel a little more better having confronted it and asked for guidance. I logged on to Twitter today and saw a response to my comment under the MATCH timeline @the_aafp posted few days ago and was reminded that the best and only thing to do, is to take it one day at a time. • So whether is mini exams, STEP, ERAS or whatever else you have going on I hope you remember to just take it task by task, hour by hour, day by day. Hello everyone, Reflecting on it now, it feels like just yesterday when I embarked on my undergraduate journey. I remember sitting in that first gen chem class on a Tuesday afternoon, the challenges of Covid, as we transitioned to online learning. And today, as I complete my final undergraduate exams, I’m amazed at how swiftly time has passed. Throughout this journey, there were tears shed, but far more laughter shared and countless memories made with these incredible people who have become like family to me. I am profoundly grateful for their unwavering support and companionship. Med school photo dump! Graduation is Saturday so here are a few of my favorite moments. 1. Getting to make some amazing friends throughout the process. This is my roommate and one of my best friends in medical school. @jordanmcgee 2. Meeting an OBGYN and social media icon @drjengunter at Aspen health. Which I got to attend because of my amazing mentor @mindofandre 3. When I dressed up my preceptor’s dog on my oncology rotation. 4. MATCHING!! 5. Discovering my love for minimally invasive surgery and getting to play the training games on the robot console that I will learn to operate on during residency. 6. Administering the COVID vaccine to our community. 7. Joining together with CU to join the Black Lives Matter demonstrations. 8. joy during the process. 9. Graduating with a Masters of Science in Public Health in maternal and child health during the fall of Roe. 10. My white coat ceremony with my family who has been my biggest support. Medical school was life changing in so many good ways and so many hard ways but I’m so grateful I had the opportunity to study what I love so deeply.
