Another day, another album! 💿 4/365 Met vandaag in de hoofdrol: ⤵️ “Utopia van Travis Scott, deel 4 van de 365.” Jacques Webster de 2e, of beter gezegd Travis Scott heeft net als The Wu eigenlijk geen introductie nodig. De uit Houston afkomstige trep slash psychedelische rap muzikant is als sinds 2009 in the game en wordt gezien als een van de pioneers van het trep sub genre in hip-hop. Vele zullen hem kennen van tracks als.. Sicko Mode, Goosebumps, Highest In The Room, of van zijn eerdere werk Nine Oh Two One Oh. Dan het album. Het album Utopia waar het in deze video over zal gaan is zijn 4e studio album en werd in een tijd uitgebracht waar hip-hop op zijn gat lag, maar liefst 5 jaar hebben de fans, (dus ook ik), van Travis moeten wachten op deze plaat. En wat voor plaat het is.. het is een plaat die buiten alle lijntjes kleurt en lak heeft aan de standaarden, continu vernieuwend is.. Je wordt vanaf de begin track Hyaena meteen in de utopie, of beter gezegd distopie meegenomen van Travis. In de anderhalfuur durende plaat wordt er maar liefst 52 keer van beat geswitched en toch verliest Travis geen seconde de controle. Hij is volledig de baas over zijn eigengemaakte chaos. Utopia heeft alles wat hiphop hoort te bevatten.. ijzersterke beats, verrassing en een persoonlijkheid die in elke bar terug te horen is. Voor mij is het niet mijn favoriete Travis album sinds ik meer een zwak heb voor de na een avondje stappen laid back psychedelische tracks in plaats van stadion anthems, maar het is zeker zijn werk wat niet vergeleken kan worden met voorgangers. Her personal story of tragic loss with her boyfriend & mine losing my boyfriend many yrs ago has always made me gravitate to her music 🎶 since the start of her career & her personal journey. Glad I got to see two amazing artists I’ve played on radio 📻 & as a Dj for so many yrs since the start of their careers. Whether you do it alone or with someone simply go life is too short to wait for others or sit in fear. This reminded me of the spontaneous times where I jumped in a car 🚘 & drove to a new city 🏙️ it made me smile at that memory of meeting someone amazing (May he be dancing in Heaven) & being courageous to try in a new city. I jumped in my car in the pouring rain ☔️ & drove got blessed with a $200 seat that would have been $300 Canadian for $51! Tyler, The Creator - Igor (Neo-Soul) [2019] _____________ I can’t believe it’s already been five years since this dropped, it’s safe to say this is a modern classic that will be looked back on further down the road as a generational release. Practically everything musically has been said about this record, it’s a genius slice of soul infused with synth funk and pop aesthetics that never gets old. Personally, I could go on forever about this record and what it means to my life. It came at just the right time where I was in a very happy relationship and its themes of love resonated strongly and its sensual instrumentals felt like the perfect soundtrack to a young couple falling madly for each other, that love was unfortunately ended late in 2019 with a harsh eye opening event that changed my life forever. Then the themes of losing love felt all too personal as if it was written for me in that moment, it really felt like a record that was mirroring my life. I laughed the hardest, I loved deeply and I cried endless tears with this record playing constantly all in a whirlwind of emotions that really felt like the transition from being a naive kid to a man. I started really contemplating mortality and what it means to be alive, what purpose is and how every day truly is special and not to be taken for granted. I’m grateful beyond belief that this album came out when it did, it felt like the perfect encapsulation to a year I’ll never forget that shifted me for the rest of my life. All this time later and it still has that lightning in a bottle feeling, a momentous work that hits deep in the soul. My life wouldn’t be the same without Igor, it’s one of those albums that stands out as one of the most important in my personal trajectory. My copy is the alternate cover version that comes on a Mint wax, it comes with a beautiful poster and had a sticker that I’ve since put on the vinyl shelf. Also when I got mine there was a Golf lookbook included, a neat little extra that I don’t know was supposed to be included but still cool nonetheless.

Another day, another album! 💿 3/365 Met vandaag in de hoofdrol: ⤵️ “Enter The Wu, 36 Chambers van The Wu Tang Clan , deel 3 van de 365.” Deze fenomenale en door hip-hop fans aanbeden groep heeft eigenlijk geen introductie nodig, ik heb het natuurlijk Wu-Tang-Clan! Een reden waarom het eigenlijk al baanbrekend is wat deze groep heeft gedaan is omdat er destijds geen groepen bestonden met 9 leden, of dat er maar een producer op een album was die ook nog tot de groep behoorde, of om maar te spreken over de kung-fu samples. Alles ging anders bij The Wu Deze omschrijving is helaas veel te kort voor een uitgebreide omschrijving dus als je nog niet bekend met The Wu bent check ze snel. Dan het album, zoals jullie misschien al hebben gemerkt ben ik erg enthousiast over dit album. Of het nou gaat over de productie die ver voor zijn tijd is, de rijmschema’s en vindingrijkheid, de chemistry van de groep, het verhaal achter elke MC.. het is een tijdloos album waarbij je bij elke luisterbeurt weer achter nieuwe dingen komt.
