If you need a little extra support to make that happen, we are here for you.šŸ’« #NashvillePsych #MentalHealthAwareness #Inspirational #MentalHealthIsHealth #Therapy #TherapyWorks #NashvilleTherapists

"The Power of Awareness: Understanding Spiritual Bypass" Check out the newest blog post from our intern Matt Blumhard using the link below! "In our quest for personal growth and spiritual development, we may encounter various concepts or practices that promise profound transformation. These may include prayer, meditation, yoga, spiritual retreats, and the exploration of different religious or spiritual traditions. Each of these approaches offer unique paths toward self-discovery, inner peace, enlightenment, or connection with the transcendent, attracting individuals seeking deeper meaning and fulfillment in their lives. However, as we engage with these transformative endeavors, it's essential to be aware of how our use of these spiritual ideas and practices could be hindering our growth, holding us back from true healing. Spiritual bypass refers to the tendency to use spiritual beliefs, practices, or experiences to avoid addressing underlying psychological or emotional experiences. It involves using spirituality as a means of escape from uncomfortable feelings or challenging life situations rather than confronting them directly. While spiritual practices like meditation, prayer, or mindfulness can be immensely beneficial, they can also be misused to sidestep deeper issues." https://www.nashvilletherapy.co/blog/2024/5/14/the-power-of-awareness-understanding-spiritual-bypass Contact us! Our society has been known to value hustle culture, grind culture, and putting pressure on turning enjoyable hobbies into money-making side gigs. While it is true that inflation keeps rising in all aspects of life (food, housing, education, etc.) and many of us are constrained to a "live to work" lifestyle out of necessity, it is important to protect any available free time at all costs. Free time to rest, relax, binge watch a show, take a leisurely walk, put our phones down, and let go of our day-to-day responsibilities to listen to our body's need to regulate. Unsure how to do this? We have trained counselors who understand the socio-economic and socio-cultural factors that make this easier said than done. Reach out to us and we'll get you set up with the counselor that is right for you and will work with your daily conditions in a realistic, validating way, while also providing support on how to best care for yourself on your terms. Anxiety on its own can be rough. The cognitive and physical symptoms can be enough to cause disruption in many domains of life (relationships, work, family, personal interests, etc.), which limits a person's ability to fully engage with their life in the way they desire. The last thing anyone struggling with anxiety wants is to exacerbate it. Taking a hard look at your lifestyle, routine, habits, and coping strategies can help assess if you are unknowingly adding more fuel to the anxiety fire. If you're feeling lost in your struggle with anxiety, consider how the above examples do (or do not) show up in your life. Contact us! ā€œMy approach is rooted in the belief that you already have every strength within you to accomplish your goals and discover the depths of who you are. I graduated from Baylor University with both my BSW and MSW, and am now an LMSW in both Tennessee and Texas. I have experience working with survivors of domestic violence, those experiencing grief and loss as well as individuals struggling with self esteem. I aim to empower and support you on your journey of self-discovery by creating a space where you feel heard, acknowledged and validated. Together, we will navigate your individual narrative to explore who you are. But this journey isnā€™t just about introspection. Itā€™s about empowerment. Itā€™s about arming you with the tools and insights you need to navigate lifeā€™s challenges with confidence and resilience. After a heavy therapy session, itā€™s essential to prioritize self-care. Hereā€™s how: Reflect: Take a moment to journal your thoughts and feelings. Writing can help you process what arose during your session and gain clarity. Connect with Nature: Step outside for a breath of fresh air. Whether itā€™s a stroll in the park or simply sitting under a tree, nature has a way of soothing the soul. Rest and Recharge: Give yourself permission to rest. Curl up with a good book, take a soothing bath, or simply relax and let your mind unwind. Practice Self-Compassion: Be gentle with yourself. Remember that healing is a journey, and itā€™s okay to have ups and downs along the way. Reach Out for Support: If you need it, donā€™t hesitate to reach out to loved ones or a trusted friend. Sometimes, sharing your experiences can provide comfort and validation. Remember, youā€™re on a path of growth and self-discovery. Take each step at your own pace, and know that youā€™re worthy of love and care. #nashville #nashvillecounselors #nashvillecounseling #nashvilletherapists #nashvilletherapist #nashvilletn #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #mentalhealthawareness #recovery

Do you remember the first time you ever tried to tie your shoes or brush your teeth by yourself?? I'll reckon it was difficult and a little bit messy! Now, I'll bet you're a whiz with the bunny ears technique and don't think twice about shining up those pearly whites. The truth is, we are usually not proficient at something when we first start. It takes time to develop a skill, hobby, craft, or career. Don't let the fear of being bad at something stop you from doing something new. Remember that kid who couldn't tie his shoes at first -- he'd tell you to just do it anyway! Contact us! "Beyond Resolutions: Embracing Values For A Fulfilling New Year When Goals Hold Us Back" Check out the newest blog post from our intern Matt Blumhard using the link below! "As we embark on this new year, take a moment to reflect on your values ā€“ those principles that define the essence of who you are. Instead of setting resolutions, imagine intentions that align with your values. Allow them to be the guiding force that shapes your choices, actions, and ultimately, your life. In the tapestry of the new year, let's weave a narrative of purpose, authenticity, and fulfillment. Embrace your values, live with flexibility, and watch as the unfolding chapters of your life become a masterpiece painted with vibrant hues of authenticity and purpose. Cheers to a year guided by values ā€“ a year of mindful living, meaningful connections, and a richer experience of the journey of life." https://www.nashvilletherapy.co/blog/2024/1/22/beyond-resolutions-embracing-values-for-a-fulfilling-new-year-when-goals-hold-us-back Contact us! Help us welcome Matt Blumhard, one of our newest interns starting this spring semester! Matt is a Marriage and Family Therapy Intern and a Ph.D. student at Eastern University who previously graduated from the University of Pittsburgh with a B.A. in Philosophy and Religious Studies and Liberty University with a Master of Divinity. Reach out using the info below if you'd like to schedule a session with Matt! Matt sees clients on a sliding scale of $65 to $100. "My approach to therapy is eclectic, shaping the experience to your story, but I find grounding in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Narrative Therapy, and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT). These tools can help us navigate challenges, explore our personal and communal stories, and build emotional connections as we work together. I believe in creating a safe and collaborative space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences without judgment. I also specialize in religious deconstruction and spiritual concerns. I recognize the profound impact that matters of faith and spirituality can have on one's well-being. Whether you are grappling with questions of belief, experiencing a spiritual crisis, or seeking support in the process of religious deconstruction, I can provide a compassionate and understanding space for this unique aspect of your journey." Words and their meanings are subjective to each person's experience and the context of that experience. When we think of the word "resilient", it can evoke images of a person persevering through difficult times and rebounding quickly despite the adversity they are facing. It can be presented in an almost heroic context of a person fighting against the odds, overcoming obstacles with strength and drive. It can be this, absolutely, but it can also be the courage to allow yourself to breakdown and grieve a recent loss. To surrender to the pain and to let yourself feel the heartache that refuses to go unnoticed. Resiliency doesn't have to be mighty, loud, or bold. It can be found in quiet moments when the world feels overwhelming, and you decide to let yourself cry on your bedroom floor. Contact us! As we walk into this new year, take a moment to express gratitude toward yourself for all that you've done to make it here. Maybe you've overcome some difficulties this past year or perhaps some challenges are still coming with you into 2024 -- either way, you're here. And if you're here, there's hope. Hope to overcome, to accept, to change, to forgive, to let go, to feel, to love. I imagine there are ways you've grown this past year that you didn't imagine were possible -- how brilliant! How absolutely astounding that is. With that in mind, what do you hope for yourself in this upcoming year? I'm not talking resolutions, commitments, or goals... I'm talking about hopes, dreams, and well-wishes. What do you hope or wish for yourself this year? Let yourself dare a little bit. No one knows the future, but we can certainly dream of something that would make us feel more connected to ourselves, alive, loved, or seen. Give yourself that -- you deserve it. And happy new year from NCTP! Contact us! No matter how someone connects to a transcendent stateā€” meditation, medicine, near death experience, etc., there is one message that everyone always ā€œbrings backā€ with them: WE ARE ONE. And though our earthly brains cannot comprehend the fullness of this truth in this lifetime, it remains a reality, not just a cliche phrase. And that is why we cannot focus solely on our own individual healing and wellness. Our health is bound together. Our hope is bound together. Our pain is bound together. Our liberation is bound together. We cannot be healers without looking outward. We cannot be fully healed without working for collective liberation and well-being for all. Our healing is bound together. May there be healing for us all. āœØ #ceasefirenow #healersforceasefire #therapistsforceasefire #therapistsforjustice #therapistsforpeace #therapistsforsocialjustice #nashvilletherapists #somatictherapy #endtheoccupation #releaseallhostages #weareone

These are a few of the challenging statements that guided therapy sessions for me this week. A theme that came up a lot was the idea that we often create a false narrative in our heads about what others think about us. We make a lot of assumptions about someoneā€™s feelings or perceptions without asking for clarity or being open to their perspective (especially if we disagree with it). My challenge for you this week is to be more curious and less quick to judgment. #nashvilletherapists #nashvillementalhealth

Compassion fatigue can happen for anyone who finds themselves in a helping profession (therapist, doctor, nurse, teacher, daycare worker, etc.) or who routinely gives assistance to others, whether it be looking after a sick/dying family member or caring for a child with special needs. Compassion fatigue is a normal thing that can happen to anyone who is routinely present with the suffering of others. If you find yourself experiencing any of these symptoms, please know that it doesn't make you a bad person, incapable of doing your job, or mean you love someone in need of the care you give any less. Compassion fatigue is a sign you need to start focusing on taking care of YOU. You deserve to have your cup filled up the same way you fill up the cup of others. What are some ways you can reconnect with yourself and care for yourself to alleviate or prevent compassion fatigue? Contact us!
