I received news that troubled my spirit this past week. I took the situation to my God. I was comforted knowing that I have a God who is bigger than all my problems . The word of God never fails to comfort, strengthen, and encourage me. I always allow it to inspire me to take God ordained actions especially in difficult times. I enjoy reading the word of God, meditating on it, sharing it, and listening to it being shared by others. In this past week’s circumstance, I stood on the following passage: Romans 8 verse 31 “What shall we then say to these things, if God be for us, who can be against us?” Psalm 20 verse 7 “Some trust in chariots and some in horses, we will remember the name of the Lord…..”. David, the author of many of the Psalms, endured some pretty low and desperate times throughout his life. Thrust suddenly into the limelight as a young teen after defeating the giant Goliath in single combat, he became the focus of the King of Israel’s simmering jealousy and resentment. This murderous jealousy finally boiled over into an attempt on his life, which he escaped. This lead to several years spent in hiding as an outlaw, living rough from cave to cave with only a few faithful men at his side. He lost his closest and most dear friend in battle, a friend who was closer to him than a brother. While living as an outlaw, his wives (yes - David was a polygamist!) and his men’s wives were kidnapped, presumed killed, by bandits. His men threatened to kill him because of it. He eventually became King himself but, in a moment of greed and lust, took another man’s wife - one of his best and most loyal soldiers in fact - and slept with her. To cover his crime, he instructed the man be sent to the front lines of the battle currently being waged. He was, of course, killed. Several of his children died or were murdered. His daughter was raped. His favourite and beloved son systematically undermined him and eventually staged a coup, trying to seize the throne from him. His most loyal friend and chief counsellor betrayed him in his greatest hour of need. He had to flee the royal city in fear of his life. He eventually died an old man, having a lived a long and colourful life; an epic saga of adventure that almost defies belief. His life story teaches us this; no matter what we’ve done, no matter what we’re going through, God will always be a safe place to run to, the rock that cannot be moved, the source of our salvation. There’s no sin too awful He can’t forgive, no despair too great He can’t comfort and no enemy too strong that He can’t defeat. Soulful Sunday I love waking up on Sunday and finding a verse that speaks to me. This one was meant to be seen today. Tomorrow my Mom will be having surgery to repair her hip prosthetic. I know she is scared and of course, I will be worried the entire time. But, I know that God will protect us. He will be there for her and for me. My faith helps me through times that create anxiety and worry. God is my rock. God is my shield of protection. I pray that you are able to feel His strength and love when you most need it. Today is one of those days where my smile is not as big as I would love it to be but nonetheless I'm grateful for another day of life. Thank you Lord 🙏 It's ok to feel sad sometimes, life is not meant to be perfect. God gives us turbulence only to find peace within Him. Friends if you're feeling anxious, depressed, worried, frightened, angry, confused, irritated, frustrated, overwhelmed, drained, or exhausted, you're not alone. Remember that feelings are neither good and bad. They are signals to helps us process out inner life and the world around us, to grasp more fully what is happening and how we are meant to respond. I hope and pray that some of these verses speak to your heart and calm the anxiety and troubling, unsettling, disturbing sense that all is lost. Nothing is lost upon God. The last couple of weeks have been a struggle for me. Making the best and right choices when it’s NOT what I want or want to do.
