One major reason for impatience is that we are not accepting reality and have an overarching need for control. For example, the cashier "should" be going faster at the checkout. My kids "should" be quiet. In order to transform those stressful "shoulds," you have to learn to accept how things actually are. That doesn't mean you can't do anything about situations that are unsatisfactory. It just means you don't react to frustration, which is never a long-term solution to effect real change. How can I be more patient? Try to see the situation from another point of view—for example, a slow cashier's. Begin recognizing the moment when you get "triggered" and stop. Understand what you are wanting to control in the situation. This will help you slowly understand the reasons for your desire to control how things "should" be. Once you can release yourself from "how things should be," you can start to act from a more patient place. Is patience a virtue or a skill? If it's a virtue, I've spent most of my life embracing vice. I used to demand, "Just get it done!" at staff who didn't move fast enough. I'd impatiently question, "What’s taking you so long?" for those who seemed to be dawdling. A sigh and eye roll from me meant a brewing storm, a part of the persona I'd chosen: hard-charging and relentless. It served me, until it didn't. Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu humbled me, knocking me down a much-needed notch. My sloooow learning curve and constant humiliations taught me patience with myself … and, miraculously (to me), patience with others followed. Over the years, I've continued to battle impatience, practicing it relentlessly with mental checks and admitting my own weaknesses, that require others to be patient with me. During my recent hospitalization, I confronted my relationship with patience once more. This post is part of a series about lessons learned during that hospitalization. Admitted in late June, I was immobilized, fatigued, and in pain, lacking diagnosis or prognosis. Days blurred with IV injections, exams, and endless tests. Then, the exams stopped. July arrived with interns departing and newcomers orienting, leaving a void of inaction. "Gallium scan next week." "MRI machine's busy." "CT unit's occupied." Without these tests, understanding my condition was impossible. In pain and alone, a revelation dawned: the most important test had already begun. My vulnerability left me dependent on medical staff. What myths was I telling myself about them? Toxic ones, of laziness and incompetence? Or positive ones, about well-intentioned individuals, deserving of trust? Providence placed me in a sandbox. Should I fuss over dirty pants, or play in the sand -- to build castles? Would I pass the test? Post-holiday, the exams resumed, but they provided no answers. Earlier tests wouldn't have changed anything. The doctors had learned nothing. But I had learned a lot. Later, one of the doctors asked if I was a psychologist. She’d never met a patient who viewed delays as opportunities. Internally, I laughed. I wasn't extraordinary. I was just someone who’d learned to play in the sand.

Vi påvirkes alle af de relationer vi har og vi er tilbøjelige til at lade os føre med af andres meninger uden at stoppe op og mærke efter om det er det rigtige for os. Det kræver mod at stå ved egne holdninger også hvis de går imod andres meninger, men ved at gøre det opnår vi at leve et mere autentisk liv i pagt med egne værdier. At the end of the day, regardless of my circumstances, I want to be known as a woman of virtue. I also want to be known for outrageously loving others and having a positive impact on the world. As DC Talk so graciously said and paired with a beat I will never get out of my head, "Luv is a verb." Therefore, in order to be a woman of virtue, I must be a woman of loving actions.​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ On the sunny days I'm happy to buy a hungry stranger a sandwich and commit random acts of kindness, but it's those dark, hard days when clouds are rolling in, uncertainty or anger is brewing and I don't feel loving that I must still choose love. And in those moments, love is best demonstrated through patience.​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ Patience, I am coming to realize, is the bedrock on which all virtuous qualities are built upon.​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ Patience to be sincere in my listening to what someone else is saying instead of thinking about how I want to respond or all the ways I disagree.​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ Patience to stand in the gap when a misunderstanding occurs and not go into defending my position when I feel wronged.​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ Patience to bite my tongue when bitter words are trying to lash out.​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ Patience to keep my integrity by extending grace, turning the other cheek, or walking away in an act of peace rather than fanning the flames of a disagreement.​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ Patience to apologize first, forgive, and not expect anything in return.​​​​​​​​ ​​​​​​​​ Patience, does not come naturally to me. It is something I must practice and actively choose. And, since I know that patience is something I struggle with when I'm experiencing strong emotions, I must also learn to practice being patient with myself so that I can calm down and come to a place of peace as quickly as possible. Er du opmærksom på om du kommunikerer positivt eller negativt. Positiv kommunikation betyder du har fokus på det gode og det der går godt. Negativ kommunikation er når du har fokus på og fremhæver negative aspekter i livet. Mental robusthed er en psykologisk færdighed, der hjælper os til at håndtere modgang, stress og udfordringer, samt at passe på os selv. Vi er som udgangspunkt rimelig mentalt robuste. Vi kan ikke gå igennem livet uden at opleve udfordringer, men hvor godt vi kommer igennem dem afhænger af vores mentale robusthed. Mental robusthed er altså ikke noget, man enten har eller ikke har, men derimod en størrelse, vi besidder i forskellige grader. Mental Robusthed udvikles, fastholdes og kommer til udtryk i samspillet mellem individ og omverdenen. Når vi benytter os af naturen, sker der noget i os. Alle årstider og alle vejrforhold kan noget forskelligt. Jeg selv, går gerne en rask tur, uagtet af vejret, jeg klæder mig bare på derefter. Årsagen til at jeg går i naturen, er at jeg fysisk kan mærke det er godt for mig. Jeg bliver klarere i hovedet, husker bedre, har nemmere ved at indlære nyt, bliver glad, reducerer min stress, bliver naturligt træt med bedre søvn til følge og så kan jeg mærke det på min fysiske krop, jeg får færre smerter i nakke og ryg. Vær positiv: 🌿 Vi støder alle på mennesker der for det meste har et negativt syn på tilværelsen generelt. Det er ofte mennesker der har stærke holdninger og som er gode til at ytre sig i alle situationer. Det kan være vanskeligt at afvise disse stærke holdninger som påvirker os negativt. Det er dog SÅ vigtigt at vi alle forsøger at stoppe den negativt, da det kan påvirke alt for mange mennesker og skabe stressrelaterede reaktioner. ET menneske kan sende negative vibrationer ud der er SÅ enerverende i hverdagen.
