5 things I've said that have made people mad at me, most of which I think are very funny (and still true) 1. You should not be doing your leg workouts in your running shoes. I stand by that I will die on that hill, you will have a better leg workout and have better results and be safer and stronger in flat stable shoes. 2. It's not that hard to hit your protein target. If you just suck it up and take two more bites of protein at each meal you'll probably hit your protein target by the end of the day. 3. Using a food scale is the most accurate way to measure your portions. Not only is it more accurate, but it saves you the dishes of all the measuring spoons and measuring cups. 4. All of these different fitness classes are not strength training. Just because you're working out with weights does not make it strength training and probably means that it's not as effective for building muscle as you think it is. 5. Your stomach expanding from eating food throughout the day is not the same thing as bloating. I have no tips to help you deal with the expansion of your stomach throughout the day because that is normal. Not long ago, we took our first trip to Arizona and had the same experience as first seeing the ocean. My eyes could not absorb enough of the vast scenery. As we drove from the red rocks and cacti near Scottsdale into the higher elevation and pine trees of Flagstaff, I was transfixed by the diverse beauty. We hiked into canyons and up rocky mountains and along statuesque cacti under the warm sun…and I felt a shift within me. A cloud lifted from my mind and was replaced with a lightness in my heart that had been vacant in recent months. Covered in red dust and sweat I felt true happiness! In the afternoons we rested our tired bodies under the warm sun and enjoyed decadent and robust meals in the evenings. Our hearts were bursting with joy. We couldn’t stop thinking "we want everyone we know to feel just like this". Overwhelmed with the drive to cultivate and share the exact experience with others, The Revival Retreat: Scottsdale was created! Here's the problem... IT'S YOUR PERFECTIONISM AND ALL-OR-NOTHING MINDSET. You will never get results if you can't get consistent. If you are someone who: - Stays consistent until mid day Friday then loses it on the weekend - Makes excuses - Is easily triggered and thrown you off your plan We need to handle this first before you can see any progress or results. You can't get consistent because your expectations are too high. Make consistency the #1 priority. Establish consistency over perfection by pulling back on your expectations. If you say you are going to the gym 5 times a week but realistically you are only making it 4 days a week. Then set it to 4 days a week. Instead of 1500 calories a day try 1800 calories a day. A more flexible and achievable target. Concentrate on doing the same thing consistently for several weeks in a row. It doesn't even matter what the workout out is. As long as you carve out the time and make it happen 4 times a week for the next 4 weeks. Once you've got your workout routine down, your nutrition down to something sustainable, THEN you can tailor those targets for even more results. Basil Infused Hummus Recipe: Ingredients: 1 can (15 oz) chickpeas, drained and rinsed 3 tbsp Sankhya Farms Basil Salad Dressing 2 tbsp tahini 2 cloves garlic, minced 2 tbsp lemon juice 1/2 tsp ground cumin 1/2 tsp salt 2 tbsp water (or more as needed) 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped Optional: 1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil for drizzling Instructions: In a food processor, blend chickpeas, basil-infused oil, tahini, garlic, lemon juice, cumin, and salt until smooth. Gradually add water while blending until desired consistency is reached. Stir in chopped fresh basil leaves. Transfer hummus to a serving bowl, drizzle with extra virgin olive oil if desired, and garnish with a few basil leaves. Serve with pita bread, crackers, or vegetable sticks.
